Philanthropy
Each March for the past three years, the Delta Phi
Epsilon Educational Foundation has held a virtual
fundraiser. This year, Dimes for D Phi E (D4D)
raised $134,268.41 overall. Epsilon Upsilon was
one of the first chapters to go All In with a
donation of at least $19.17 from each active
member! The chapter and its supporters donated
well over $1,100 altogether.

Kacie Flynn started a flurry of activity when she posted the Epsilon Upsilon
family tree on Facebook. Many older alumnae surfaced with valuable memories.
As a result, a lot of blanks were filled in. Thanks to everyone who helped
preserve the history of our active West Coast chapter!
Adopt-A-Sister
Sydney Newton would like to thank all of the amazing alumnae who volunteered
to mentor an Epsilon Upsilon Active sister. It was a slow and rough start, but we
finally get to see how this will work out so we can refine the program. This is a
great opportunity to connect with actives and offer them your professional advice
and guidance. Please be on the lookout in the upcoming school year for another
opportunity to get paired with a graduating senior! If you have any ideas or
suggestions, Sydney would love to hear them!

Welcome Dinner
Formal Weekend Alumnae Welcome Dinner was held at Rita's
On Friday, April 10th. It was an informal mixer attended by both
actives and alumnae.
Farewell Brunch
On Sunday, April 12th, the chapter hosted a Farewell Brunch in the Kate Buchanan Room on campus. The
women enjoyed bagels, muffins, coffee, and juice while recalling moments from the night before.
Humboldt
Kacie Flynn hosted Harry Potter Night on January 30th at her house.
On March 13th, alumnae gathered for Arts Arcata and to kick off
Founders Day weekend. Trivia night was Sunday April 19th at Six
Rivers Brewery.
On March 29th, the Dash of Color Run was held at College of the
Redwoods. Several alumnae and about seventeen actives participated
as runners and volunteers.
Bay Area
Lindsey Solenberger, Rose McGovern, Erica LeBarron, Lynna Do,
and Brenda Marston gathered for Founders Day Brunch on
Sunday, March 15th at Basil Leaf Caf in Danville. Epsilon
Upsilon, Alpha Iota, and Epsilon Rho were all represented. After
lingering over brunch, the ladies took a stroll down the main street.

Upcoming Events
Bay Area
On May 17th, a team of seven alumnae will go 12k from Bay to Breakers wearing purple sparkle skirts and
unicorn or D Phi E running tops. This race has a reputation for being really wild, so look for us to post
pictures, possibly censored.
Members of the DPhiE Runs SF group Facebook group are mostly alumnae, though any sister is welcome to
join the fun. They previously ran the Nike Womens Half Marathon and loved every moment of it. They are
always looking to participate in events in San Francisco and beyond, such as the Napa or Tahoe Ragnar
Relay, See Jane Run Half Marathon, and Humboldt Marathon.

Several CAA members, including Brenda Marston, Margie Janes, Rose McGovern, Gina Curtis, and
Roberta Salin have been involved in their local organizations over the past year. These women would
be happy to share their experiences with anyone who is interested in joining them.
CAA is planning to add a VP Panhellenic to the Leadership team for the next term. If the change is
approved by our membership, Alumnae Panhellenic delegates will have even more support. In
addition, Gina Curtis and Rose McGovern are Alumnae Specialists on the IHQ NPC Committee.
Gina has been assigned to work with CAA, along with about ten other successful D Phi E Alumnae
Associations, while Rose has been assigned to work with struggling/dormant associations.
Feel free to contact Gina, Roberta, or any of the women mentioned above, for more information.

To my lovely sistersI was looking at the Strategic Goals of Delta Phi Epsilon from a number of years ago.
Included on the list were the following:
-Celebrate our history and traditions. D Phi E is 98 this year!
-Inspire and develop our members to become responsible and engaged citizens.
-Engage members in meaningful experiences
-Ensure financial viability.
This past year, we were proud to call fifty-one (51) sisters dues-paying members of the
California Alumnae Association. I am so grateful to all of you who understand that
yearly commitment of dues. You have helped ensure financial viability for our CAA
and for the alumnae program of the sorority. We make a difference.
The yearly dues for a Lifetime Link are $15. If you have not become a Lifetime Link,
yearly dues are $35. (CAA will pay $19.17 to Headquarters on your behalf.) A
Lifetime Link is a one-time payment of $250 for lifetime dues paid to the
International Sorority. You can become a Lifetime Link at
dphie.org/links/payalumnaedues. Current members will receive a PayPal invoice at
the end of April for 2015-16 CAA dues. All dues received this spring will apply to
2015-16.
This year our expenses were relatively small. Next year we will help fund both Chapter
and Alumnae Association delegates to the 2016 International Convention. We also
pay dues to the Alumnae Panhellenic Associations on which Delta Phi Epsilon is
represented. Future expenses include funds for the celebration of our Centennial in
two years. Your contribution to these goals is meaningful and necessary.
Yours in True Sisterhood,
Linda Hyman
California Connections: The Delta Phi Epsilon California Alumnae Association Newsletter
As I said in the last newsletter I was going to start a column wherein we could
have a dialogue on a variety of topics so here goes. All commentary is
encouraged but lets keep it respectful to all recipients and participants.
Topic: What do you think of the United States having a woman President
Republican, Democrat, or third party?
My personal opinion is that it is long overdue. Women are just as capable, if
not more so, as a man at making the tough decisions. I would hope a woman
President would bring a higher priority to those foreign, social and economic
issues that might appear to be more important to women and encourage and
stipulate at least an even representation of women on those panels and
committees that make the recommendations and decisions at the national level.
If that strategy were to also filter down to, or spread out to, the state level, all
the better. I think we, as women, could help to accomplish so much more in
our government if we were to have more opportunities at participation. Its
time we had more seats at the discussion/negotiation table.
I see this as an issue similar to the push in education to encourage young girls
to pursue an education and career in science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM), long areas of study with an under-representation of
female students. By increasing the female participation of women in these
areas we can begin to see more women in these professional careers,
equalizing salary for women to men, and moving women closer to breaking the
proverbial glass ceiling.
What do you think? Drop me a note at rsalin@sbcglobal.net. I will
consolidate the comments (anonymously annotated if you request it to be) and
post them back to our group page.
