Selection Procedure

(Course Programme ME / M Tech/ M Des)


ME Programmes
Selection is based on the GATE 2014/2015 score only.
Tie Breaking: In the case of candidates with equal GATE score, their performance in the
qualifying examination would be used to resolve the tie.
M Tech Programmes
(a) Electronic Systems Engineering:
After screening based on the GATE score, an aptitude test and interview will be conducted
during 20 and 22 April 2015. Selection will be based on performance in the aptitude test
and interview.
(b) Computational Science:
After screening based on the GATE score, an aptitude test and interview will be conducted
during 20 and 22 April 2015. Selection will be based on performance in the aptitude test
and interview.
(c) Climate Science:
After screening based on the GATE score, an aptitude test and interview will be conducted
during 20 and 22 April 2015. Selection will be based on performance in the aptitude test
and interview.
(d) Instrumentation:
Selection is based on the GATE score only.
(e) Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering:
Selection is based on the GATE score only.
(f) Earth Sciences:
After screening based on the GATE score, an aptitude test and interview will be conducted
during 20 and 22 April 2015. Selection will be based on performance in the aptitude test
and interview.
(g) Nano Science and Engineering:
After screening based on the GATE score, interview will be conducted during 20 and 22
April 2015. Selection will be based on performance in interview.
M Des Programme
After screening based on GATE / CEED score, a design aptitude test and interview will be
conducted at the Institute, between 23 and 24 April 2015. Selection will be based on
performance in the design aptitude test and interview.

Notes
(a) Candidates short-listed for the aptitude test/group discussion and interview will be posted
on Applicants interface on IISc website www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions under Application

Status link at least 2 weeks in advance Such candidates can take a print-out of the
interview letters from the respective candidates LOGIN page and make necessary
arrangements for attending the interview. No separate communication will be sent by
post.
(b) Candidates called for the aptitude test/group discussion and interview have to make their

own arrangements for travel and accommodation etc.


(c) Candidates called for the aptitude test/group discussion and interview should bring with

them attested copies of all their transcripts (marks cards from SSLC or equivalent
onwards, degree certificate of the qualifying examination, etc.) and produce them before
the interview committee, failing which, they will not be interviewed.
(d) Candidates belonging to the SC/ST category should bring the original caste/tribe

certificate, issued by a competent authority for purposes of verification. OBC candidates


belonging to non creamy layer/minorities (as listed in the Central list) will be required to
produce the original certificate issued on or after January 1 st 2015 by a competent
authority.
(e) Candidates belonging to the Physically Handicapped category and Kashmiri-Migrants

should produce the original of the appropriate certificates, issued as per Government of
India rules.
(f)

The offer letter for the selected candidates will be posted on Applicants interface on IISc
website www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions under Application Status link during the third week of
June. They can download the offer letter and make necessary arrangements including
payment of fees etc. No separate communication will be sent by post.

(g) Candidates admitted to ME, M Tech, M Des programmes should report to the Institute for

completing admission formalities on 13.07.2015.


(h) At the time of joining, candidates should have completed all the requirements for the

award of the qualifying degree including all examinations, dissertation projects, viva-voce,
etc.
(i)

Only candidates who produce all the mark sheets and degree certificates
(original/provisional) issued by the University Authority will be given regular admission.

(j)

Candidates who are awaiting results but have completed all formalities for the award of a
degree should produce at the time of joining, a Course-Completion Certificate, issued by
the Head of the institution (The Principal/Registrar). Such candidates will be given only
provisional admission, which will be regularized on their producing all the marks sheets
and degree certificates (original, or provisional)etc., issued by the University Authority on
or before 31 October 2015, failing which, the provisional admission stands cancelled.

(k) Candidates who are given provisional admission are eligible for a scholarship only on

regularization of admission (on production of the required documents). They will be paid a
scholarship with retrospective effect, i.e., from the date of joining.
