SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEW

A.

Comply with Section 01 33 00.

B.

Final construction schedule of supports and membranes.

C.

Product Data: Provide component dimensions, describe components with assembly,


anchorages and fasteners and connections to adjoining building fabric and drainage provisions.

D.

Design Data: Provide framing members structural and physical characteristics including
dimensional limitations.

E.

Shop Drawings: Indicate dimensions, description of materials and finishes, general


construction, component connections, anchorage methods, hardware and installation
procedures. Provide the following for approval by the Engineer.
1. Final architectural drawings showing the membrane form and profiles as well as masts and
connections.
2. Structural design drawings showing the precise interface geometry coordination with sub
structure and contiguous builders works.
3. Structural reaction loads, connections, details, interfaces and seam layouts which shall
include:
a. Large deflection numerical shape generation that will insure a stable, uniformly
stressed, three dimensionally curved shape that is in static equilibrium with the internal
pre-stress forces, and is suitable to resist all applied loads.
b. Large deflection finite element method structural analysis of the membrane system
under all applicable applied wind and live load conditions.
c. Finite element method structural analysis of the support system.
d. Member sizing calculations of all primary structural members.
e. Connection design including bolt, weld, and secondary member sizing skylights.
f.

Biaxial fabric test specification, interpretation, and fabric compensation determination.

g. Accurate generation of the two dimensional compensated fabric templates required to


generate the three-dimensional equilibrium shape.

Submit two samples, 500 x 500 mm, of each membrane finish with seams to colors and
transparency previously selected by the Engineer.

G.

Samples of exposed and concealed fixings showing the finishes to the colors selected by the
Engineer from color ranges previously submitted for selection by the Engineer.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.

Perform Work in accordance with current applicable codes and regulations.

B.

Manufacturer and Installer: Company specializing in manufacturing membrane systems with


minimum ten years documented experience.

1.06

DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A.

Comply with Section 01 61 00.

B.

Protect finished metal surface with strippable coating. Do not use adhesive papers or sprayed
coatings which bond when exposed to sunlight or weather.

1.07

WARRANTY

A.

Comply with Section 01 78 36.

B.

Correct defective Work within a five year period after Substantial Completion include for
replacement and making good any damage caused during replacement.

C.

Warranty: Include coverage for complete system for failure to meet specified requirements.

PART 2:
2.01

PRODUCTS

ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
1. Substitutions: Under the provisions of Section 01 25 00

MATERIALS

A.

Extruded aluminum complying with ASTM B 221M.

B.

Sheet aluminum complying with ASTM B 209M.

C.

Structural steel rolled shapes, plates rods and anchors complying with ASTM A 36.

D.

Structural steel pipe complying with ASTM A 53.

E.

High strength bolts complying with ASTM A 325.

F.

All exposed fasteners including bolts, nuts and washers shall be stainless steel complying with
ASTM F 593 and ASTM F 594.

G.

All concealed nuts, bolts, washers, shall be zinc plated complying with ASTM A 307.

2.03

Project Specification

FABRIC

A.

Propose specific materials for each structure based on structural analysis and other parameters
such as closed or partially open grid fabric.

B.

Woven Material:
1. Yarn shall be of highest quality; the thread must be equipped with Low Wick.
2. Coating on the fabric shall be at 50 % more externally to the internal faces.
3. Coating shall be fungicidal and bactericidal and dust/dirt resistant.
4. Geometric check of weft arch shall not exceed 1%. Thread shall lie straight in warp and
weft.
5. The external face of the closed fabric shall have an additional coating out of PVDF with an
average weight of 75 - 85 g/m2.
6. Fabric shall be flame retardant in accordance with ASTM E 94. Certificate of compliance
shall be provided.
7. The strength of a welded seam shall have more than 70% of the breaking load of the base
material at 70 oC and more than 90% at 23 oC.
8. Material shall be from one production run.

Mechanical tests of membrane connections and reinforcements:


1. Standard tests for the fabric and connections shall be made and documented. Carry out 5
tests for each specimen:
a. Tensile strength warp and weft, at 23 oC and 70 oC temperature.
b. Welding seam, warp and weft 23 oC and 70 oC, short and long time.
c. Biaxial stress behavior, to define the compensation value for cutting pattern.
2. Fabric details and reinforcement:
a. Seams (high frequency welded) shall be 80 mm or 100 mm.
b. Edge detail shall be similar to standard seam; if the main edge cable is positioned into
a special pocket there shall be reinforcement to keep the cable from direct contact to
the main membrane material.
c. Corner reinforcements shall be made of HF-welded PES belts or similar so that the
tensioned appearance will be maintained.
d. For site assembly of factory prepared units a suitable connection shall be to take up the
high connected loads which shall be water tight and flat.

Fabric manufacturer shall guarantee the same quality of material properties (mechanical and
optical) as shown in the samples provided for approvals, the technical data sheets and the
requirements resulting out of the structural analysis.
HEAT COEFFICIENT, U-VALUES OF FABRIC

A.

Single layer, U = 5.5 W/m2 oC.

B.

Double layer, U = 2.6 W/m2 oC.

FINISHES

A.

Zinc rich primer 0.3 mm dry film thickness.

B.

Epoxy intermediate coast 0.5 mm minimum thickness.

C.

2 part aliphatic urethane finish coat.

D.

All finishes to be applied strictly in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

E.

Colors shall be as approved by the Engineer.

F.

Provide 300 x 300 mm samples of finishes for approval by the Engineer.

TRADITIONAL CANVAS TENTS


Permanent, five-fold canvas tent consisting of:

1. Inner fold of SADO or JAKAR (traditional tent liner made of linen).


2. Second fold of white canvas.
3. Third fold of canvas.
4. Fourth fold of unseen layer of canvas providing thermal protection.
5. Top and final told of water-resistant canvas.
6. Tubular steel structural frame.
7. Sliding steel door and frame.
B.

Movable, three-fold canvas tent 4 m x 4 m size, consisting of:


1. Inner fold of white canvas.
2. Second fold of unseen layer of canvas providing thermal protection.
3. Final fold of yellow print dosuti.
4. Iron erection poles.

C.

Canvas material for all folds shall, at a minimum, be of manufacturers standard strengths
relative to size and configuration of tent structures.

D.

Metal components for permanent tents shall be primed with corrosion resistant primer and
painted with anti-corrosion paints in accordance with Section 09900.

PART 3:
3.01

EXECUTION

EXAMINATION

A.

Comply with Section 01 31 00.

B.

Verify dimensions, tolerances, and method of attachment with other work.

C.

Verify contiguous builders works are ready to receive work of this Section.

3.02

INSTALLATION

A.

Installation shall be carried out in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

B.

Cutting patterns shall be derived from a computer model and allow for all bi-axial loadings.

C.

Fabricated panels shall be free of patches, non-designed warp splices, random warp splices.

D.

The membranes shall be erected free of wrinkles when viewed from normally occupied spaces.

E.

Damages caused during erection may be temporarily repaired using field patches, permanent
repairs shall be made with full panel replacement from seam to seam or seam to approved
splice, as approved by the Engineer.

3.03

FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A.

Comply with Section 01 40 00.

B.

Carry out inspections to monitor quality of installation.

3.04

CLEANING

A.

Comply with Section 01 77 00.

B.

Remove protective material from the pre-finished surfaces.

C.

Wash down surfaces as recommended by manufacturer. Leave surfaces free of dust on


completion.

3.05

PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK

A.

Comply with Section 01 77 00.

B.

Protect finished work from damage.
