Pindayurdaya system of Determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the Lagna and Seven

Pindayurdaya system, explains the Determination of Length of Life or Ayushkalas
contributed by the Lagna and Seven planets from the planetary positions at the
time of birth. The Pindayurdaya system of calculation of length of life of an
individual Born, has been unanimously recognised and accepted as an oldest and
reliable method of calculation of length of life by indian and foreign astrologers
namely, (01). SAge Parashara s/o Sage: Shakti poorva (Author of: BruhatParashara Horashastra) (02). Astrologer: Yavanacharya @Meenaraja (Author of
Yavana Jataka); (03). Astrologer: Maya (Maya the Asura, got the knowledge
of Astronomy revealed to him by God Soorya or Sun Himself) (04).Astrologer:
MaNitthaH, (05). Astrologer: MaNitthaH, (05). Astrologer: Varahamihiracharya
(Author of Bruhajjataka) (06). Astrologer: Pruthuyashas S/o Varahamihiracharya
((Author of Horasara), (07). Astrologer: ChANakya or Vishnugupta or koutilya
(Author of Athashastra); (08). Astrologer: Kalyanavarma, (Author of Saravali)

The Eight unique features of Pindayurdaya system, of Determining Length
of Life or Ayushkalas contributed by the Lagna and seven planets are:
(01). In Pindayurdaya system, Determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the
Lagna and Seven planets, Firstly we have to calculate the basic Ayushkalas
contributed by Seven planets and
lagna.
Secondly: the said Ayurdaya (basic
Ayushkalas contributed by seven planets and lagna) should be subject to four

catagories of reductions namely: (a).Shatru kshEtra haraNa (b). ChakrapataharNa
NA or vyayadhi harana (c).Astangata haraNa (d). kroorOdaya haraNa to obtain
the net Ayushkalas contributed by the Lagna and Seven planets.
(02). While computing the Ayushkalas contributed by the planets and the Lagna,
in Pindayurdaya system, all the astrologers have unanimously agreed as follows:
(a). The Planet: Moon whether waning and/or not waning and/or (ii). The Planet:
Mercury although associated with malefic planets namely, the Planet: Sun,
Planet: Mars and/or the Planet: Saturn must be treated as benefic Planets only.
(b). For calculations relating to determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the

Planets Only the contributions made by the Planets Sun Moon Mars Mercury
Jupiter Venus and Saturn shall be taken into consideration.(c). According to
Learned
astrologers
like
Maharshi
Parashara,
while
determining
the
Ayushkalas contributed by the Planets,
(03). While computing the Basic Ayushkalas (Without and reductions), we must
consider:-Firstly: The Basic Number of years of Ayushkalas contributed by
Seven planets, occupying its deep exaltation degrees are: (i).The planet:
Sun is 19 years. (ii).The planet: Moon is 25 years. (iii).The planet: Mars is 15
years. (iv). the planet: Mercury 12 years. (v). the planet: Jupiter Moon is 15
years. (vi). the planet: Venus 21 years. (vii). the planet: Saturn is: 20 Years
and Similarly, Secondly: The Basic Number of years of Ayushkalas contributed
by Seven planets, occupying its deep Depression or debilitation degrees
are: (i).The planet: Sun is 9 years and Six months. (ii).The planet: Moon is
12 years and Six months. (iii).The planet: Mars is 7years and Six months. (iv).
the planet: Mercury Six years. (v). the planet: Jupiter Moon is 7 years and Six
months. (vi).the planet: Venus 10 years and Six months. (vii). the planet:
Saturn is: 10 Years Thirdly: The Number of years granted when the planet
occupies
the
various degrees / Minutes of
sign, has
been calculated
proportionately by rule of three.

(04).
According
to
Learned
astrologers
like
Maharshi
Parashara,
for
calculations relating to ShatrukshetraharaNa, the term Planet occupying its

Inimical house means and includes the house of the inimical planets as
recognised by panchadha relationship of planets (House owned by ShatRu and
adhi shaturu planets) should be taken into consideration.
(05). In case of reduction of Ayurdaya due to Astangata haraNa it must be
remembered that, Firstly:The Basic Number of years granted by Planets Venus
and Saturn are not subject to Astangata haraNa reduction. Secondly: (01).
When: Moon is within 120 Deg from the Sun, 02). When: Mars is within 170 Deg
from the Sun (03). When: Mercury is within 140 Deg (when retrograde: within
120 Deg) from the Sun, (04). When Jupiter is within 110 Deg from the Sun, then
they are said to be Eclipsed by Sun and entitled for Astangata haraNa.
When Saturn is within 150Deg from the Sun, then it is said to be

(06).
According
to
Learned
astrologers
like
Maharshi
Parashara,
for
calculations relating to determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the Planets,

for Chakrapataharana or Vyayadhiharana Firstly: if the planet is in its retrograde
Motion then or under the said circumstences, the Ayushkalas contributed by
such planets are not subject to Chakrapataharana or Vyayadhiharana. Secondly:
If many planets exist in one sign (EkarAshi gAnAm), only the most powerful
planet (bali EkOMshaM harati) loses its due portion as assigned before. Thus says
Satyacharya (aha satyaH) . (This is also the openion of VarAhamihira).
(07).
According
to
the
observation
of
Sreepati
(Sreepati-paddhati),
for calculations relating to determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the lagna

and related KroorOdayaharNa, Firstly: KroorOdayaharNa, for each malefic planet
(Occupying the lagna) is to be performed. Secondly: if the malefic planet (s)
occupying the lagna at the time of birth of the individual, is aspected by a
benefic planet only half the result obtained by the KroorOdayaharNa or reduction
for each Malefic planet (Occupying the lagna) is to be subtracted from its
Ayurdaya or Ayushkalas. (h). When any one of the 7 planet is entitled for more
than one kind of reduction or harana then or under the said circumstances only
one harana which is the highest one is to be made.(I). Units considered for
determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the Lagna and Seven planets are:
(i). One sign =30 degrees; (ii). One degree =60 minutes; and (iii). One minute
(long) = 60 Ghatikas; (iv). One year= 360 days; (v). One month = 30days and
(vi). one day = 24 hours. (vii). One navamsha = 200 Minutes.
(08).While computing the Determination of Ayushkalas contributed by the Lagna
at the time of birth of the individual, Sage Parasara and Varahamihiracharya
(Following Sage SatyachArya) proposed two different methods of computation of
Ayushkalas
contributed
by
the
Lagna,
Firstly:
According
to
Varahamihiracharya, (i). The lagna or the rising sign gives a number of years
in the same way as the planets do. (ii). The number of years given by Lagna is
the same or will corresponds to
the number of Navamshas of the rising sign
that may have risen above the horizon, In short, the computation will be for the
lagna Rashi only. Secondly:
According to ancient astrologer namely: Sage
Parashara/ Other astrologers, the Lagnayus is as many years as there are Rasi

reckoned from the Mesha up to lagna. In this discussion both the methods were
explained.
The various techniques of computation or Determination of Ayushkalas

contributed by the Lagna and the Seven planets situated at the time of birth is
discussed in detail in the following sections.
(A). calculation of The Basic Number of years of Ayushkalas contributed

by Seven planets and Lagna in Pindayurdaya system:
(01). PinDAyurdaya System of calculation of Length of life about Basic
-years or ayus granted by Seven planets occupying its Exaltation signs at the
Birth time:
If at Birth time (a). the planet: Sun occupies 100 degrees of the Sign:
Mesha
being
its exaltation degree
then the maximum number of years
ordained to an individual so born, will be nineteen years (b). If at Birth time, the
planet: Moon, occupies 030 degrees of the Sign: Vrushabha being its exaltation
degree then the maximum number of years ordained to an individual so born,
will be Twenty five years (c). If at Birth time, the planet: Mars, occupies 280
degrees of the Sign: Makara being its exaltation degree then the maximum
number of years ordained to an individual so born, will be Fifteen years (d). If at
Birth
time,
the
planet:
Mercury,
occupies
150
degrees
of
the
Sign:
Kanya being its exaltation degree then the maximum number of years ordained
to an individual so born, will be Twelve years ; (e). If at Birth time, the planet:
Jupiter, occupies 050 degrees of the Sign: Kataka being its exaltation
will be Fifteen years (f). If at Birth time, the planet: Venus occupies 270 degrees
of the Sign: Meena being its exaltation degree then the maximum number of

years ordained to an individual so born, will be Twenty one years (g). If at Birth
time, the planet: Saturn occupies 200 degrees of the Sign: TulA being its
exaltation degree then the maximum number of years ordained to an individual
so born, will be Twenty years .
(02). PinDAyurdaya System of calculation of Length of life about Basic

-years or ayus granted by Seven planets occupying its Depression signs at
the Birth time:
At the time of birth of an individual, (a). If the planet: Sun occupies 100
degrees of the Sign: TulA being its Depression degree then the maximum
number of years ordained to an individual so born, will be half of nineteen years,
or nine and a half year (b).If at the Birth time, the planet: Moon, occupies 030
degrees of the Sign: Vrushchika being
its Depression degree then the
maximum number of years ordained to an individual so born, will be Twenty

five years half of Twenty five years or Twelve and a half year (c). If at the Birth
time, the planet: Mars, occupies 280 degrees of the Sign: Kataka being its
Depression degree then the maximum number of years ordained to an individual
so born, will be half of Fifteen years or Seven and a half year (d). If at the Birth
time, the planet: Mercury, occupies 150 degrees of the Sign: Meena being its
so born, will be half of Twelve years or Six year; (e). If at the Birth time, the
planet: Jupiter, occupies 050 degrees of the Sign: Makara being its Depression
will be half of Fifteen years or Seven and a half year (f). If at the Birth time, the
planet: Venus occupies 270 degrees of the Sign: Kanya being its Depression
will be half of Twenty one years or Ten and a half year (g). If at the Birth time, the
planet:
Saturn

(03). PinDAyurdaya System of calculation of Length of life about- Basic

At the time of birth of an individual, Firstly: (a). If, the planet: Sun

Occupies any place between 10 0 degrees of the Sign: Mesha being its exaltation
degree and 100 degrees of the Sign: TulA
(i). Occupies any place between 10
being its Depression degree and/or
degrees of the Sign: TulA
being its
Depression degree and 100 degrees of the Sign: Mesha being its exaltation
degree (b). If at the Birth time, the planet: Moon (i). Occupies any place
between 100 degrees of the Sign: Mesha being its exaltation degree and 030
degrees of the Sign: Vrushchika
being its Depression degree and/or (i).
Occupies any place between 03 degrees of the Sign: Vrushchika being its
Depression degree and 100 degrees of the Sign: Mesha being its exaltation
degree (c). If at the Birth time, the planet: Mars (i). Occupies any place between
280 degrees of the Sign: Makara being its exaltation degree and 280 degrees of
the Sign: Kataka being its Depression degree and/or (i). Occupies any place
between 280 degrees of the Sign: Kataka being its Depression degree and 280
degrees of the Sign: Makara being its exaltation degree (d). If at the Birth time,
the planet: Mercury (i). Occupies any place between 15 0 degrees of the Sign:
Kanya
being its exaltation degree and 150 degrees of the Sign: Meena being
its Depression degree and/or (i). Occupies any place between 15 0 degrees of the
Sign: Meena being its Depression degree and 150 degrees of the Sign: Kanya
being its exaltation degree (e). If at the Birth time, the planet: Jupiter (i).
Occupies any place between 05 0 degrees of the Sign: Kataka being its exaltation
degree and 050 degrees of the Sign: Makara
being its Depression degree
and/or (i). Occupies any place between 05 0 degrees of the Sign: Makara being
its Depression degree and 050 degrees of the Sign: Kataka being its exaltation
degree (f). If at the Birth time, the planet: Venus
between 270 degrees of the Sign: Meena
degrees of the Sign: Kanya
(i). Occupies any place
being its exaltation degree and 270
being its Depression degree and/or (i). Occupies
any place between 270 degrees of the Sign: Kanya being its Depression
degree and 270 degrees of the Sign: Meena being its exaltation degree (g). If
at the Birth time, the planet: Saturn (i). Occupies any place between 200
Sign: Mesha

the said circumstences, the maximum number of years stated to be obtained by

the above planets, will be bestowed proportionately according to the rule of

three (as per the table in the annexure to this chapter) Thirdly: According to
translator Santanam: Rule of three is explained as: Deduct the actual position of
the planet from its deep exaltation point, If the product is less than O signs,
deduct it again from 12 signs. The product concerned be multiplied by the
number of years allotted to the planet and divided by 12 to get the planet's
actual contribution; Fourthly: According to translator V. Subrahmanya Sastri
Example: (for Principle: aMtarasthE anupAtaH ): Suppose for instance, Mars,
to occupy ie, 90-00 ie the ninth degree of Simha. Find out the number of years
granted by him to the individual born. The exalted degree of Mars is 28 thdegree
of Makara and the Detrimental degrees of Mars in 28 thdegree of Kataka. When in
exalted degrees Mars grants 15 years. When in detrimental degree Mars grants
half of what he grants in the exalted degrees ie, 7.5 years from 280 degree of
Makara to 280 degree of kataka there
is 1800degree. Therefore, every degree
from exaltation to detrimental degree gives 7.5 (7 ) 180 years = 0.04166

years. From 28 degree Kataka to Simha 9 degree there is 11 degrees. 11 degree
gives us 11 x {7.5 (7 ) 180) = 7 x 0.04166 years of 5 months 15 days.
Adding this to 7 .5 years we get 7 years 11 months and 15 days as the life
granted by Mars. The years of other planets Fourthly: The same is declared or
sated by Ancient astrologers like,
Maya an
astrologer (the asura, got the
knowledge of Astronomy revealed to him by the God soorya himself), Yavana (a

foreign astrologer), MaNitthaH is (an AchArya in astrology) and Shaktipoorva or
Parasara (Shaktipoorva is Parasara, whose father is Shakti) and other AchAryas
on astrology Fifthly: According to translator V. Subrahmanya Sastri :Find the lord
of the 10th house or planet in the 10 th house whichever is stronger (or that planet
which is near the Meridian). The number of years granted as indicated by the
said planet will gives the approximate income of the individual so born. For
example, if at the time of birth, the Moons position is 9-140-30' in the 10th
house and is stronger than the lord of that house. His figures are thus obtained:
Step: 3: The moons years in depression are 12 years. He is 71
removed
from his depression point and therefore gets 12 + 71 /180 X 12 or about

17 approximately. Step:4: The native income must therefore be 175
approximately. Sixthly: Sri, Santanam, translator ofParashara Hora shastra has
provided certain principals and formulas for deriving: (i).basic planetary
contribution is and (ii).ChakrapataharaNA factor. Which - includes:-] - (I).
Principles: At first the longitudinal position of planets must be converted into
degrees; (ii). To convert the minutes of arc into seconds it must be multiplied by
Formula's

60 (iii). To convert the seconds of arc into degrees it must be divided by 3600.

planetary contribution is:(A).Let "D" Represents the distance between the
planet's deep exaltation degree and its actual placement (B).Let: "F" Represents
the full number of years grantable by the planet (C). Let"C" Represents the basic
years actually granted by the planet due to its placement. (D). The formula to
find out the basic planetary contribution is: Formulas Type:01: If "D" is less than
,1800 then:- C = F - (Dxf 360) or Formulas Type:02: If "D" is more than ,1800
then:- C = (Dxf 360)].
(04). PinDAyurdaya System of calculation of Length of life about Basicyears-or ayus -granted by planets situated in between its Exaltation and itsDepression Degrees and/or its Depression and its Exaltation Degrees:
If at Birth time, Firstly: The number of years given by Lagna is the same
or will corresponds to
the number of Navamshas of the rising sign that may
have risen above the horizon, that is, the lagna or the rising sign gives a number
of years in the same way as the planets do. In short, the computation will be for
the
lagna Rashi only. Accordingly, a sign of Zodiac, consisting of nine
Navamsha's, gives us 9 years. Examples: (i). if at the Birth time, the 10o degree
of Simha happens to be the lagna or the rising sign, then, the number of years
given by Lagna is 10/30 x 9 years = 3 years or (ii).if at the Birth time, the 14o
32' degree of the Sign Mesha happens to be the lagna or the rising sign, then,
the number of years given by Lagna is 4 72/200 years = 4. 36 years. (iii). if at
the Birth time, the lagna be at the commencement of the 11o degree of the Sign
Kumbha, then, the number of years given by the lagna is 1/3 years or 120
Days Since 3 Navamsas of Kumbha have arisen.
Secondly: According to ancient astrologer namely: Sage Parashara/ Other
astrologers, the Lagnayus is as many years as there are Rasi reckoned from the
Mesha up to lagna, that is, the lagna or the rising sign gives a number of years in
the same way as the planets do. Accordingly (i). A sign of Zodiac, consisting of
30o degree will contribute One year or 360 Days as life or Ayus of the individual
so born. (ii). Further the number of years given by Lagna occupying any space
between 30o degree of any sign, shall be calculated proportionately according to
the rule of three; (i). If at the Birth time, the lagna be at the commencement of

the 11o degree of the Sign Kumbha, then, the number of years given by the
lagna is 10 and 1/3 years or 3720 Days or (ii). if at the Birth time, the 10o
degree of Simha the fifth sign Reckoned from the Sign Mesha happens to be
the lagna or the rising sign, then, the number of years given by Lagna is 4 and
1/3 years or 1560 days.
***** (05). In PinDAyurdaya System of calculation of Length of life about

rule of - reduction of One third of Ayurdaya granted due to ShatRukShetraharaNa :
If at Birth time, Firstly: (a). The Planet: Sun Occupies any of its Inimical
Sign
namely:
Vrushabha tulA Makara
or Kumbha
then the
maximum
number of years ordained to an individual so born, will be reduced by one third

due to ShatRukShetraharaNa and Accordingly , the maximum number of years
ordained to an individual so born, will be Two third of Nineteen years or 4560
Days. (b). the planet: Moon has no inimical planets and hence is not subject to
any reduction/Deduction of ayurdaya due to ShatRukShetraharaNa. (c). (i).The
Planet: Mars Occupies any of its Inimical Sign namely: Mithuna or Kanya
then the maximum number of years ordained to an individual so born, will
be reduced by one third due to ShatRukShetraharaNa and Accordingly , the
maximum number of years ordained to an individual so born, will be Two third of
Fifteen years or 3600 Days. (ii). And in pindayurdaya system, if at the time of
birth the planet: Mars
is in retrograde motion, then the rule of reduction of
One third of Ayurdaya granted due to ShatRukShetraharaNa (when the planets

occupies the houses owned by its inimical planets reason) is not applicable to
the planets: Mars. (d). (i).The Planet: Mercury Occupies any of
Sign namely: Kataka then

inimical planets reason) is not applicable to the planets: Mercury. (e). (i).The

reduction of One third of Ayurdaya granted due to ShatRukShetraharaNa (when
the planets occupies the houses owned by its inimical planets reason) is not
applicable to the planets: Venus.(G). (i).The Planet: Saturn Occupies any of its
Inimical Sign namely: Mesha kataka or Simha or Vrushchika
then the
maximum number of years ordained to an individual so born, will be reduced by

one third due to ShatRukShetraharaNa and Accordingly, the maximum number of
years ordained to an individual so born, will be
Two third of Twenty years or
4800 Days. (ii). And in pindayurdaya system, if at the time of birth the planet:
Saturn is in retrograde motion, then the rule of reduction of One third of
Ayurdaya granted due to ShatRukShetraharaNa (when the planets occupies the
houses owned by its inimical planets reason) is not applicable to the planets:
Saturn. Secondly: i). Vakragati means retrograde motion. The planets: Sun
and Moon , the two luminaries, do not have Vakra state, they do not acquire
retrograde motion, the other five planets (Tara grahas) namely the planets:
Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn have Vakra state, they acquire
retrograde motion from time to time when they transit from Fifth to the Eighth
house Reckoned from the house occupied by the planet Sun. (ii).And hence, in
pindayurdaya system, if at the time of birth
Jupiter, Venus or Saturn
the planets: Mars, Mercury,
is in retrograde motion, then the rule of reduction of
One third of Ayurdaya granted when the planets occupies the houses owned by
its inimical planets reason is not applicable to the five planet/s in retrograde
motion.

(06). In PinDAyurdaya System of calculation of Length of life about rule of reduction of One Half of Ayurdaya granted due to astaMgatahraNa :
If at the time of birth, Firstly: (a). the planet: Moon happens to be an
astangata graha or being obscured by the Light of the Planet: Sun, or when
occupies a position within a longitudinal distance 120 degrees of from the
Planet: Sun Both in direct course and in Retrograde Motion, Then or under the
said circumstences, (b). From and out Twenty five years being the maximum
number of years of Ayus or length of life ordained or given by the planet: Moon,
occupying
030 degrees of the Sign: Vrushabha being its exaltation degree,
half of the Ayus or length of life will be reduced as astangata haraNa. (c).
Accordingly the planet: Moon happens to be an astangata graha will ordain or
give Only Twelve and half year of Ayus or 4500 Days of Ayus or length of
life . Secondly: if at the time of birth, (a). the planet: Mars happens to be an
astangata graha or being obscured by the Light of the Planet: Sun, or when
occupies a position within a longitudinal distance 17 0 degrees of from the Planet:
Sun Both in direct course and in Retrograde Motion, Then or under the said
circumstences, (b). From and out Fifteen years being the maximum number
of years of Ayus or length of life ordained or given by the planet: Mars,
occupying 280 degrees of the Sign: Makara being its exaltation degree, half of
the Ayus or length of life will be reduced as astangata haraNa. (c). Accordingly
the planet: Mars,
happens to be an astangata graha will ordain or give
Only Seven and half year of Ayus or 2700 Days of Ayus or length of life.
Thirdly: if at the time of birth, (a). the planet: Mercury happens to be an
astangata graha or being obscured by the Light of the Planet: Sun, or (i).when
occupies a position within a longitudinal distance 14 0 degrees of from the Planet:
Sun In direct course, (ii).
when occupies a
position within a longitudinal
distance 120 degrees of from the Planet: Sun In Retrograde Motion, then or
under the said circumstences, (b). From and out Twelve years being the
maximum number of years of Ayus or length of life ordained or given by the

Step: 03: the Moons position is 9-140-30. His depression is 7-30 Therefore Moon contributes (25
2) + (25 2) X {143 (2 x 180)} = 17.465 years.
Step:04::: the Mars depression is 3-280 and His position is 11-270-53. Therefore Mars contributes:
{(152)+ (152) }X (23) = 12.5 years.
Step:4: the Mercurys position is 11-240-14and His depression is 11-150 Therefore Mercury
contributes: (122) + {(6 x 9.25) 180} = 6.31 years.
Step: 05: Similarly Jupiter Contributes: {(152)+ (152) } X (33180) = 8.875 years.
Step: 06: Venus contributes: (212) + (162.45 180) X (212) = 19.97 years.
Step: 07: Saturn Contributes: 10 + {(10x7.93) 180} = 10.44 years.
Step: 08: In the example, there is no planet that is quartered in the house of enemy. So there is no
reduction on that count.
Step: 09: As regards the rule about combustion, Venus and Saturn are eclipsed. Their years should be
deducted by half. But they come under the exception, hence their years are nor reducible.
Step: 10 : The years for the lagna = 872 200 or 4.36 years.

Example: Given by, Bhattotpala and referred by V Subramanya Sastri, retreated by
N.Chidambaram and again Solved by Swami Vijnanananda to demonstrate that the
length of the life period of an individual as low as 15 years 6 months and 10days can be
determind by Pindayurdaya system:
Lagna- 1st Navamsa of Kumbha, Sun, Mon, Venus occupies their exaltation degrees. Saturn, Jupiter
and Mercury occupy their depression degrees and Mars is in the 28 th degree of Kumbha. The Sun, the
Moon and Venus contribute 19, 25, and 21 years respectively
B. Determine the length of life of an individual whose Ayus if below 20 years:
Step: 1: Here the first navamsa of the sign Kumbha is the lagna. The Sun, Moon, and
Venus occupy the exalted degrees; Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn occupy their debilitated
degree and Mars occupies the 28 th degree of the sign Kumbha. Step: 2: Now as the Sun,
Moon and Venus are in their exalted degrees; their years are respectively, 19, 25, and 21.
And as Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn occupy their debilitated degrees, their years are one
half of their maximum years ie, one half of 12, 15, and 20 or 6, 7 , and 10 respectively .

Step: 3: Now the 28th degree of the sign Makara is the exalted degree of Kumbha, he is

removed from the exalted degree by exactly 30 degrees. His maximum number of years
where in the 28th degree of Makara being 15; 30, degree of a sign give us 15/2 x 1/6 or 1
year 3 months. Subtracting this from 15 years we get 13 years and 9 months as the
years of Mars. Step: 4: As the Kumbha lagna was just rising, it gives us no years, so
that, at this stage, the planetary years stand as follows: Step: 5: Sun: 19 years; Moon:
25 years; Venus: 21 years; Mercury: 6 years; Jupiter: 7 years 6 months; Saturn: 10 years.
And Mars 13 years 9 months. Step: 6: Now as Jupiter, a benefic planet, occupies the
12th house from the lagna, his years suffers a reduction of one half of their length, so that
after the reduction he gives us only 3 years and 9 months. Again all the planets occupy
friendly signs, no reductions for enemies houses need be mad. Saturn being within 10
degrees from the Sun is a descending planet and therefore his years suffer no reduction.
So that Saturn gives us 10 years. Thus we have the following: -Step: 7: Sun: 19 years;
Moon: 25 years; Venus: 21 years; Mercury: 6 years; Jupiter: 5 years 9 Months; Saturn: 10
years. And Mars 13 years 9 months. Total: 98 years and 6 months . Step: 8: Now as Mars,
a malefic planet occupies the rising sign, the total number of 98 years and 6 months
have to be subjected to a reduction known as malefic planets rising dictum. In other
words, the 108 Navamsas of the ecliptic represents the total number of years. Now there
are 10 x 9 + 1 = 91 navamsa of Kumbha. The quantity of reduction therefore is (91
108) x (197 2) = 15 years 6 months and 10days = the length of the life required (This
is evidently less than 20 years).
