Motorola Solutions, Inc. - Business Light Division Plantation, FL
Senior RF Design and Development Engineer
(1996 Dec. 2014)

Professional
Experience

Served as the primary design and development engineer for VCOs, Power
Amplifiers, Frequency Generation, and related circuitry for products from the
Business Light group for the past 18 years. This included working with
factory personnel to smoothly transfer these electrical prototype designs to
mass production. Some aspects of this work with the factory involved
tune/test issues, statistical yield improvements (including 6-sigma design
practices), adherence to the products Bill-Of-Material (BOM) guidelines &
costs, and managing the Supply Chain aspects for all of the components used
on the circuit designs that I am responsible for.

Key Accomplishments:

Technical architect and management of the UHF & VHF Power

Amplifier (PA) designs for the RDM (Solomon) and RDX (Nome)
model 2-way radios for the Business Light Group. This work included
the device selection for all 3 PA device stages on both the UHF and
VHF bands and for both the High Power (4W/5W) and Low Power
(2W/1W) radio models.
Served as manager and mentor to junior level electrical engineer in all of
the aspects of this PA design work including the introduction of the
radio into the production environment.
Design of the UHF & VHF Power Amplifiers for the RDX (Nome) 2watt model 2-way radios.
Designed the UHF Power Amplifier circuit for the RDX (Nome) 4-Watt
model 2-way radios. Assisted on the VHF PA for the RDX (Nome) 5Watt model radio.
Technical architect and management of the UHF & VHF Frequency
Generation circuit blocks for the RDM (Solomon) and RDX (Nome)
model 2-way radios for the Business Light Group.
Served as a manager and mentor to another engineer on these various
Frequency Generation circuit designs including the VCO, Loop Filter,
and Reference Oscillator circuits.
Design of the UHF & VHF Frequency Generation circuitry for the RDX
(Nome) 2-Watt, 4-Watt, and 5-Watt model 2-way radios. This included
the VCO, Loop Filter, and Reference Oscillator circuits.
The above listed designs as well as many others from my work in the
Business Light group are for direct conversion ZERO (0) IF receivers,
where the VCO is operating at 2X the carrier frequency.
I performed some of the electrical tests of our products for FCC and
other agency required certifications as well as doing much of the
agency required written technical descriptions for these products.

I was also involved in the PA and Frequency Generation design

(including device/module selection) for one of the Business Light
products that operated in the 900MHz ISM band (902-928MHz).

Motorola Solutions, Inc. - RF Technology Center Plantation, FL

RF Design and Development Engineer

(June 1990 June 1996)

Served as a design and development engineer for circuit/modules for use on

other Motorola products. VCO module work was the bulk of this activity
along with a portion being performed for a Receiver LNA module. This
work included the electrical design, circuit layout, laser tuning of trim-able
capacitors, and the transfer of the corresponding data files to the appropriate
printed circuit board and module manufacturing vendors.

Key Accomplishments:

Designed several VCO modules/hybrids in the 800/900 MHz frequency

bands for use in both 2-way radio and iDEN base stations; and another
for a UHF Mobile radio.
Designed a 1.5GHz Receiver front end LNA module for the Japan
Specialized Mobile Radio (JSMR) product.

Motorola Solutions, Inc. - Saber & System Saber Radio Product Groups
Plantation, FL
Product Development Engineer

(January 1984 June 1990)

Key Accomplishments:

Part of a group that developed UHF and VHF Receiver front end
modules that incorporated an LNA, a mixer, stripline filters, an IF
amplifier, and a crystal filter for use on the Saber radio.
Worked with manufacturing personnel to help lower production costs
and improve the reliability associated with assembly and testing of these
Receiver modules.
