Does vendor have any instruction to use

American code? CSA design criteria refers to
BS codes (BS 5950 for steel structure)

Page -3

References to be presented in this document

Page -16

If CSA design criteria is referenced then the

dynamic amplification factors differ from ones
used here.

Page -16

No load combination is associated with load

cases 7 & 8. !!

Code has been revised as per latest

CSA design criteria Doc.No QT-ST-2016
Reference documents has been
updated in the report - Refer clause
1.1 P.No.4
Updated the DAF as per CSA design
criteria which is given in the report Refer clause 3.1.8, P.No 17.
Considered only for transportation
condition and not added in load
combination.

All internal connections between elements are

considered moment connection in STAAD model
that means vendor has to design them for bending
moment but it has to be emphasized that having
moment connection is not associated with just
designing bolts for bending moments, it has
something to do also with transferring tension/
compression in flange to the support element that
means enough stiffening to be provided for flange
so any rotation in connection can generate the
moment in connection., in general adding a rows of
bolts out of section footprint accomodate this
requirement. Vendor has to clarify this here. For
example column connections to beams are moment
connections and changing them to simple
connections changes the stresses value and also
leads to more deflection in beams.

In the STAAD analysis internal

connections between members are
considered as moment connections since
web and flanges of the beam are
connected rigidly to column/beam
elements.
In the current revision moments are
released in the ends

NASH RESPONSE

Page -26

No design parameter is defined in STAAD model, in

general the the distance between points to support
elements against buckling is not the element itself
length, if this is not defined by used then the STAAD
considers the element
length by default that is not a safe assumption
always.

Design parameters defined in the STAAD

REV-0/REV-1 report page no 312. DJ1,
DJ2 are assigned for starting and end
point of the beam member length. Actual
member length is assigned for Ly, Lz
parameters in the current revision.

Page -32

In relevant drawing as shown in following ISO

view(S9GE-4-0704-01-00077, REV 3), lifting lug
location differs from the one in STAAD model. On
the other hand the above-mentioned document as
stated in itself is superseded
by C1306-V01-PK-GA-0002 but this referenced
drawing can't be found on POL

Lifting Lug location needs to be

updated in the drawing.

Page -37

The whole FOS to design to ultimate strength for

pad eye, elements directly attached to pad eye, and
other elements are 4, 3.6 and 3,
respectively; these factors include the Dynamic
Amplification Factors(DAF) and load factors

FOS 4 has been updated in the Lifting

Lug analysis.

No command line for doing design based on AISC

can be found in STAAD input file so it is the
question how the design is done based on that
code, maybe this is not the latest STAAD model,
This also applies to the other STAAD model for
lifting presented in this calc note

As per CSA design criteria we have

revised the design based on BS
5950-2000 code. The command line
for BS code can be found in the latest
report of P.No 359
