FIRST IMPRESSIONS
When you meet a new person for the first time, you take
about three seconds to form an opinion. So how can you
make a good first impression?
Obviously your clothes are very important and can say a lot
about your personality. Alberto is fifteen. He has got some
more suggestions:
When I speak to someone for the first time, I always look
at them when I talk. I dont stare, of course, but its
important to have eye contact. I also smile a lot. Im a
naturally friendly person and Im not shy, so I dont find it
difficult to relax and smile. You know theres an expression,
Smile and the world smiles with you? I think its true. Its
important to show interest in the other person. Show that
youre curious and ask them some questions about
themselves. Dont forget to give some information about
yourself it isnt an interview! At the beginning of the
conversation I try to joke a bit. A sense of humour really
helps to connect with someone. What do I talk about?
There isnt a list of correct things to say, but its important
to be positive.

Tuesday 8 p.m.

Last nights highlight was the final of Top Song. In my

opinion the final was as exciting as last years final
perhaps even better. This week the final three contestants
had to sing a disco song and a slow ballad.
Lil sang first. She was very nervous and when she was
singing her second song, she suddenly forgot the words.
But Lil is a determined woman and she started the song
again. The judges loved it and said very positive things.
Simon was the next contestant. Simon was working as a
teacher when he saw the first series of Top Song. He was
in the bottom three last week, but the viewers voted for
him. Last night the situation was incredibly stressful and he
didnt sing very well.
The final contestant was Erika. Erika complained last week

A GUIDE TO SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT

We all want to reduce our impact on the environment, but we dont want to make extreme changes to our
everyday life. What practical things can we do which will make a difference? Here are five ideas:

TITANIC
The best-selling film ever is Titanic. It made $1.8 billion and it was a big international hit. It won eleven Academy
Awards, including Best Picture.
The production of the film was very expensive. James Cameron was a producer and editor. He used computergenerated images to create the dramatic moments when the ship disappeared under the water.
The film tells the story of two members of different social classes who fall in love on the ship. Rose is a seventeenyear-old rich girl. Shes going to America to marry Cal Hockley. She doesnt want to marry Cal. On the ship she
meets Jack Dawson, a third-class passenger. The ship sinks and Jack dies.
The two main characters and the central love story are fictional, but some of the people in the film are real
historical people.
The film ends with Rose in bed. Rose is now an old lady. Next to her bed there are pictures. In the pictures
she is doing everything she said she would do with Jack during her life. The final scene from the film is the
young Rose with Jack on the Titanic.
