Introduction
This manual helps you to configure your ZXDSL 831C (ZTE) Modem which have blue
black color and old ethio telecom logo.

This manual is also helps you to identify weather your modem is losing its
configuration or not.
Using seven simple configuration steps you can configure and connect to the internet
when ever your modem losses configuration.

The manual is prepared for the use of both Enterprise and residential, Internet and
data ADSL customers.
Enterprise ADSLs services have service numbers mostly start with 999 or 98.
Residential ADSLs service didnt have service numbers, instead customers user ID

used as service number.

Important notice
Please notice that to reconfigure your modem first you should implement the five
configuration steps and capture WAN IP and other related numbers when your service is
working properly.

Steps to identify configuration status

In your modem if Power and DSL light indicators didnt have steady green light your
problem is not related to configuration problem and you should call to 994 and
register you fault.
If power and DSL have steady green light and if internet doesnt have blinking light
you can implement the next two simple steps and identify weather your modem is
losing its configuration or not.

Step 1. Accessing modem from internet browser.

1. Write default ZTE ZXDSL

IP (http://192.168.1.1/)

2. Write admin on both

fields.(For enterprise)
2. Write your own user name
and password provided from
ethio telecom during sales.
(For residential).

Step 2. Check your modem configuration status

1. Click on Status

2. Check the
status of your
configuration
( From LAN IP up
to Secondary
DNS server)

If there is a number in front of LAN IP, Default gateway, primary DNS server and
Secondary DNS server just like seen in the picture, your problem is not related to
configuration and you should also call to 994 and register your fault.
If a space provided in front of LAN IP to Secondary DNS server is empty please implement
the next seven simple configuration steps and reconfigure your modem.

Steps to reconfigure ZXDSL Modem

Step 1. Accessing modem from internet browser.

1. Write default ZTE ZXDSL

IP (http://192.168.1.1/)

2. Write admin on both

fields.(For enterprise)
2. Write your own user name
and password provided from
ethio telecom during sales.
(For residential).

Steps 2. Select quick setup.

1. Click on quick setup.

Steps 3. Configure internet connection

1. Dont make any change,

just click on next.

Steps 4. Select connection type.

1. Select PPP over Ethernet (PPPOE).

(For Residential)
1. Select MAC encapsulation routing
(MER). (For enterprise)

2. Click on next.

Steps 5. Configure WAN IP

1. Select Obtain an IP address automatically option. ( For Residential)

1. Select Use the following IP and Write Wan IP address.(For
Enterprise)
2. Write default gateway. Your default gateway is the first two group of
WAN IP numbers plus 48.1.
Example: If your WAN IP is 10.131.63.194 your default gateway will
be 10.131.48.1

3. Write primary and secondary DNS server address. (For enterprise)

Primary: 213.55.96.166
Secondary: 8.8.8.8

5. Click on next.
4. For internet select Enable NAT but
for data do not select it. .

Tip
Wan IP address and other related numbers are provided by ethio Telecom during sales or you can extract
it from your modem while it is working using the above 5 steps and getting back by clicking Back sign .

Steps 6. Configure LAN setting.

1. Make sure DHCP server on LAN

is enabled. (For Both)

2. Click on next.

Steps 7. Check the summary and apply

1. Check weather your WAN &

LAN configuration is correct or
not, if not return back and correct.

2. Click on Apply. Your modem will

refresh itself and start over.
