Global Warming
The issue of global warming has been overrated ever since I was in high school.
The moment I watched the documentary by Former US Vice President Al Gore, the
news and facts about the issue spread like wildfire, and various societies, groups and
individuals spearheaded their own means on preventing global warming.
Lets face the fact that global warming is coming. There would come a time when
everything seen in the video (shown in NASC 10) would happen in front of our eyes (or
the generations of adults and kids after us), and theres absolutely no way to stop it. Bible
believers would be basing on their Great Book and blame the people (can we blame
anyone else?) on the phenomenon, scientists would just shake their heads on the idea of
it and the knowledge that they cannot prevent it. Maybe, just maybe, it can be prevented,
but only for a short while.
Trees take years to have a positive effect on the global warming process but
deforesters cut logs every hour in almost every side of the earth, factories and cars
exhume carbon every minute of the day, computers and cellphones give off heat every
second of the day.
The video was primarily a show that scientists can predict the state of the earth
once its temperature spikes up to a maximum of six degrees, secondarily a somehow
futile call to commoners to help in the prevention of global warming. Its not an
exaggeration to say that in order to do so, our lifestyle must be technologically degraded
by 50%: use bicycles, post letters, removal of factory-produced food from our diets (which,
come to think of it, is almost everything), etc.
If one would still consider to go on with his life (which, in this case, almost
everyone), then the prevention of global warming isnt possible. We cant help it if our
lifestyle today negatively affects our Mother Earth, because scientists eons ago greatly
contributed to it by imposing on us that their inventions are for the better. Yes, its for the
better in terms of communication, economy, politics, education, and I cant pinpoint why
not even a single scientist eons ago predicted the effects of these inventions to Earth
today.
Mere adaptation to the society and lifestyle of the country (and the world) results
to us facing the consequences of global warming. Our generation, from birth, is
unconsciously taught how to contribute to global warming, not prevent it. A normal kid in
a normal society would have to reach ten years old in order to realize that global warming
is the cause of extreme heat and moody climate, and all of a sudden he is called to prevent
it.
How many kids in a billion would respond to that call? A few, Im sure.
Its happening, and theres absolutely no way to completely stop it.
