CRITIQUE PAPER ON
The Living Proof
The movie is worth watching. It is different from the other films like this
because it did not just focus on the doctor that created the cure but also the
patients that needed the cure. It is very smart to use different types of patients from
Nicole with the terminal cancer and Ellie who had exacerbation of cancer. It focused
more on the effect of cancer on the patients body and on their family. It also
showed how unpredictable cancer is and it may push the audience to have frequent
checkups. It helped the audience to connect with the patients and be sympathetic
to their situation. It also showed the compassion of Dr. Slamon to his patients and
how hard he tried to push the drugs through. The line Were not businessmen,
were doctors. really showed that Doctor Slamon is not doing it for the money but
for every patient that needs it. The scene when he cant sleep and called Mrs.
Bradfield just to stop her for going to Mexico showed how pure the intentions Dr.
Slamon has. It is a very heartwarming film. it is also a very inspiring movie to watch
for aspiring doctors. The film also educated the audience on how a drug is made
and also the difficulty of getting it approved by the FDA. It showed the different
phases and the criteria to be part of the phases. It is a film that feeds the mind and
the heart. it is a smart move to show the future of the patients that are treated, it
suggested that hope is still out there just dont give up. In all the struggles Doctor
Slamon had, he never gave up and pursued his dreams that is a wonderful message
to live on the minds of the audience.
The movie focused more on how unfair the FDA is and the film made it look
like in a way that FDA is the enemy. It did not show that the FDA has standards for
the safety of the people. It showed how people suffer because of how long the
approval for the phases are but ignored the reasons behind that. The movie also
often times used words that are hard to understand by people who are not inclined
medically or in the drug industry. It really focused on how much suffering the people
on chemotherapy are and It hink that it might discourage people that might have
cancer to go for treatment and would copy Mrs. Bradfield and just accept death
instead of a life of vomiting and weakness that is not a hundred percent sure that
would eliminate cancer.
Overall it is a good film and nice to watch especially that it is a true to life
story that changed history. I would recommend this movie to be watched.
