31 scriptures to pray for your kids


1. That they will love and know well His Word: "his
delight is in the law[b] of the Lord, and on his law he
meditates day and night" (Psalm 1:2). Ask God how you
can increase their knowledge of Him.
2. For their mouths: "Let no corrupting talk come out of
your mouths, but only such as is good for building up,
as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who
hear" (Ephesians 4:29). Pray specifically for their
personal weaknesses in taming their tongues.
3. That they would walk in the good ways for which
God's uniquely
crafted them: "For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk
in them" (Ephesians 2:10). Ask God for wisdom to raise
your children according to their individual creation.
4. That they would know the depth of God's love, and
root their lives firmly in it:
For this reason I bow my knees before the
Father....that you, being rooted and grounded in
love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all
the saints what is the breadth and length and
height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ
that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled
with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:14, 17b19)
Pray for the wisdom to address their insecurities and
the "holes" where they're not pursuing fulfillment in
Him.
5. For their future spouses:
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more
precious than jewels. 11 The heart of her husband
trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.

She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life. (Proverbs 31:10-12)

Pray for an intimate, fulfilling future marriage, and


that God would prepare your child to be a wise and
loving spouse.
6. For his mind to be fully God's: "Do not be conformed
to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your
mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will
of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect"
(Romans 12:2); "We destroy arguments and every lofty
opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take
every thought captive to obey Christ" (2 Corinthians
10:5). Pray for your children's education, school,
teachers, and administration--that all would serve His
purposes and honor.
7. That they will be people of prayer: "'But we will devote
ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word'
(Acts 6:4); and that he or she will listen to God: "And the
Lord came and stood, calling...and Samuel said,
Speak, for your servant hears" (1 Samuel 3:10). Pray
that your children would live life in continual
communion with the Lord.
8. That God will raise up good influences and solid
"voices" to speak into your child's life: "Where there is
no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of
counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14). Pray for
wisdom for people who have influence in your
children's lives: teachers, relatives, coaches,
grandparents, babysitters, etc.
9. For continued purity of mind, body, eyes, and heart:
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.

With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I
might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:9-11)
Ask God for ways you anticipate and have witnessed
their temptation towards impurity.

10. That he or she would identify and flee
from temptation: "Watch and pray that you may not
enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the
flesh is weak" (Matthew 26:41). Pray that you will find
out about ways they've succumbed to temptation, and
the ability to meet it with grace and wisdom.
11. That you as a parent would win their hearts in an
intimate, vital relationship with them:

But we were gentle[a] among you, like a nursing


mother taking care of her own children. 8 So, being
affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to
share with you not only the gospel of God but also
our own selves, because you had become very
dear to us. (1 Thessalonians 2:7-8)
12. That they would have great courage, because God
is with them: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be
frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your
God is with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9). Pray for
known fears they're encountering.
13. That sacrificial love would clothe them:

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and


beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness,
humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with
one another and, if one has a complaint against
another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has
forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And
above all these put on love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony. (Colossians 3:12-14)
Pray that they would have eyes to clearly perceive
others' needs and pour themselves out for those. Pray
also for specific social skills that help your child to relate
courteously, kindly, respectfully, and graciously.
14. That their lives would be characterized by deep
humility and teachability before God: I dwell in the high
and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite
and lowly spirit..." (Isaiah 57:15). Pray that God would
dismantle pride in areas you see it in their lives.
15. That they would live cheerfully generous lives in
every aspect: "Whoever sows sparingly will also reap
sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully] will also reap
bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in

his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God


loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). Thank God
for areas of generosity you already see.
16. To generously give them--and you, as a parent-wisdom: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God,
who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will
be given him" (James 1:5). Ask Him for wisdom in
particular areas where they need to grow.
17. That they would be overflowing with faith: "Without
faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would
draw near to God must believe that he exists and that
he rewards those who seek him" (Hebrews 11:6). Pray
for areas where they might be struggling to trust God.
18. That rather than self-centeredness, they would live
lives of great love for others: "Therefore be imitators of
God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ
loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering
and sacrifice to God" (Ephesians 5:1-2).
19. That they would love God with all that they are:
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is
the great and first commandment" (Matthew 22:3738).
20. That they would choose not to conform to the
world, but rather offer themselves to God as sacrifices:
"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the
Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their
affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the
world" (James 1:27); "...Present your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this
world..."(Romans 12:1-2a). Pray for individual ways you
see your kids being influenced by the world.
21. That they would be freed from blindness to their sin,
and would continually live before God in whole-hearted
repentance: Behold, you delight in truth in the inward
being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me,
and I shall be whiter than snow (Psalm 51:6-7).
22. That their lives would be characterized by the power
of the undeserved favor of God (grace): "Therefore,
since we have been justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him

we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in
which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of
God" (Romans 5:1-2). Ask God for practical ways to
bathe your home in grace.
23. That they would persevere, and even rejoice, in the
ways they suffer: "...We rejoice in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and
endurance produces character, and character
produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame,
because God's love has been poured into our hearts"
(Romans 5:3-5). Pray for the specific obstacles your
child is enduring right now.
24. That they would keep in lock-step with the Holy
Spirit, filled with Him: "If we live by the Spirit, let us also
keep in step with the Spirit" (Galatians 5:22).
25. That their lives would be characterized by deep
gratitude:
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a
joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of
praise! (Psalm 95:1-2)
Thank God for the ways you see His rich generosity to
your children.
26. Pray for their friends, their friendships, and that God
would surround them with meaningful relationships
that challenge them toward a deeper walk with him:
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with
thankfulness in your hearts to God" (Colossians 3:16).
Ask God for ways to love on your children's friends and
show them Jesus.
27. That they would have discernment to separate
good from evil, and the courage to choose good:
"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits
to see whether they are from God..." (1 John 4:1). Pray
specifically for the issues your child is facing that are
only known to God.

28. That they would be wise in handling the money


God's given: "The plans of the diligent lead surely to
abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to
poverty" (Proverbs 21:6); "The wage of the righteous
leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin" (Proverbs
10:16). Pray for the weaknesses of each of your
children that affect their stewardship of resources.
29. For their protection: physically, mentally, socially,
emotionally, sexually, spiritually: Oh, guard my soul,
and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take
refuge in you (Psalm 25:20). Spend time committing
to God in faith your particular concerns for them.
30. That their hearts would be courageously loving in
sharing Jesus with the world: keep alert with all
perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
and also for me, that words may be given to me in
opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of
the gospel, for which I am an ambassador...that I may
declare it boldly, as I ought to speak" (Ephesians 6:1820). Thank God for the people who disciple your
children.
31. That they would be people of diligent faithfulness in
all they do: Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the
Lord and not for men (Colossians 3:23). Pray for
obstacles that would stand in the way of humble, godly
responsibility, like selfishness, laziness, selfrighteousness, or idolizing achievement or approval.
Any day: For your marriage and family, that your
children would see Christ and His model for love and
forgiveness expressed day after day: By this we know
love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to
lay down our lives for the brothers (1 John 3:16). Pray
that each of your children will not only find salvation,
but find themselves constantly dependent on grace.
Bonus: Thank God for your children, His immaculate
plan for them, and His perfect, overwhelming love for
them: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the
fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of
a warrior are the children of one's youth (Psalm 127:34). Pray for whatever He brings to mind.
