To
My Wonderful Daughter
I loved her first, I held her first and a place in my heart will always be hers. From the first breath she breathed, when she first
smiled at me, I knew the love of a father runs deep. And I prayed that shed find you someday But its still hard to give her away.
I loved her first
From
Yours Loving Father
:)
Marriage is both the happiest as well as emotional moment of a girls life. The sorrow of leaving your family, and the happiness of entering into a new phase
of life, from leaving your favorite room to the excitement of sharing your life with your love, brings a ray of mixed emotions.
Mommys are our best friends but still our heart is ruled by Daddys. They play the best part in the voyage of our life. They are our superheroes, isnt it?
(Smiles). You know when my Mom got married, her best friend gifted her a beautiful doll dressed as a Dulhan, it was trounced in a square piece of
glass. I love that doll to the core and told my mom several times that I would take it along when I get married. She never said anything, but only smiled. I
use to think that I will take one of her most prized possessions. But now with time I realized, that she smiled because she knew, that I am her valued
possession not that doll (It actually took me years to understand this *Chukles*). But the irony of life is that we have to go another house, and the
house we are living at since childhood is not ours anymore.

Customs and Rituals

We girls are really excited for our wedding day ever since our girlhood. We fancy and plan for a perfect wedding ceremony with lots of happy moments
filled with it. In Hindu Marriages a lot of customs and rituals are performed by our respective families. From Haldi to Mehndi, fro Jay Mala to Kanyadaan and
finally to Bidaai, each of the customs hold immense significance and deep rooted meaning in the Hindu religion. And if we talk about the most touchy,
expressive and emotional ritual Kanyadaan then very few of us know the connotation behind it. Want to know it in detail? Come, let me take out the
curtain!

Meaning of Kanyadaan

Kanyadaan is formed from two words, Kanya which means virgin and Daan which means donation. It is the greatest donation in a parents life
and is also measured as an intrinsic part of a Hindu wedding Ceremony. It is performed in conformity to Vedic scriptures. According to Hindu tradition,
the groom is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and bride as Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of prosperity and wealth. It is a very religiously
significant and tugs at the emotional cord of the brides parents who make the ultimate sacrifice by giving away their beloved daughter to another man for
a lifetime. In return, the father of the bride asks a promise from the groom to help his daughter achieve three significant goals of the life Artha, Dharma
and Kama. The ritual of Kanyadaan is considered very auspicious, pious and dutiful to bring fortune and it also atone the brides parents of their sins.
Kanyadaan takes place just before the Mangalpheras (encircling the holy fire). The ritual begins by giving their daughters right hand to the grooms
right hand while reciting sacred verse. After the verses, the father officially gives away all his rights and duties towards his daughter to the groom. The
groom takes pledge to take care, love, honor and cherish their daughter the same way as she was delighted before.

Emotional Significance of Kanyadaan

converted by Web2PDFConvert.com

Kanyadaan is an emotional moment for both father and daughter, this ritual leaves the bride free to accept the new family & life and depart herself from the
family she was a part of. It is a heart wrenching situation where parents give their adored daughters to another man.
"You two are one of the best couples I have ever seen, may God grant you a happy married life!"
