Presenter Department: Student Leadership and Engagement Presentation Title: See Your True Colors Shining Through: A Personality Inventory of Leadership Styles Presentation Abstract (100-word limit. This will be used in the printed program.): This session is based on the True Colors model of leadership styles. It is an opportunity to reflect on your daily interactions and be more conscious of your attitudes and behaviors. Participants will learn about their own characteristics, as well as the different aspects of the leadership styles of their peers. There will also be a segment focusing on how we see ourselves and how others see us, in which participants will receive practical tips about how to successfully collaborate with other leaders. Come find out your brightest color! Presentation Description (Provide: 1. Introduction: purpose of program and how it relates to any of the outcomes and the skills of this conference and 2. General Outline of proposed presentation. Presentation should last 45 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A or wrap-up.): 1. Introduction: The purpose of this workshop is to introduce attendees to the True Colors personality assessment and relate it to personal leadership styles. Additionally, session attendees will be able to take away tools for working with opposite leadership styles and a training session that they can apply to their own staff. This session will be interactive and provide many discussions among attendees. 2. General Outline of proposed presentation: I. Welcome and Introductions (2 minutes) a. begin with an introduction and overview of the assessment. II. True Colors Personality Assessment (10 minutes) a. Each participant will take the True Colors assessment and be able to identify their primary colors. b. Attendees will review the traits and characteristics associated with their primary colors. III. Activity I (10 minutes) a. Attendees will break into small groups of their primary colors and plan an ideal trip. IV. Large Group Presentation I (10 minutes) a. Each small group will present their ideal trip to the large group. b. During the large group share each group is able to see the distinct differences among the primary color groups. This activity demonstrates that there is no one right way to plan a trip and our

individual differences influence our leadership based on our
personalities. Activity II (10 minutes) a. After the large group discussion, attendees will break out into their lowest color and discuss things to consider when working with someone else that have their lowest color as their primary color. This activity demonstrates the concept that student leaders don't always work with the same type of personality or leadership style and to consider how to work with someone of an opposite style. Large Group Presentation II (5 minutes) a. Groups will come back to the larger group and share their list of ways to work with their lowest color. Conclusion (3 minutes) a. At the conclusion of the presentation, closing comments and questions will be answered. Attendees will take with them their leadership style assessment and handouts so they can reflect back on the session and share with their student organization members.
