The President of the Counter Terrorism Court Rida Moussa, has set the date of Wednesdayday 15
April 2015 to announce a verdict on members of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression. This is the eighth time such a date is announced. Journalist Mazen Darweesh, who is detained in
Hama Central Prison and activist Hani Zetani, in Sweidaa Central Prison received requests to appear
in front of the court, as did activist Hussein Ghreir, who is detained in Adra Central Prison.
Mazen Darweesh, Hani Zetani and Hussein Ghreir have been detained since 16th February 2012, when
a patrol of the Air Force Intelligence stormed the building of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom
of Expression in Damascus and arrested the three activists on charges of promoting and disseminating
the values of freedom of expression in Syria. During the nine months that followed their arrest, they
have been considered forcibly disappeared; they have also been beaten and tortured severely, according to their own testimonies to VDC.

Although all charges against them have been dropped pursuant to the general amnesty issued on 9th
June 2014, the three activists (as well as activists Mansour al-Omari and Abdurrahman Hamada, who
were released on bail in February 2013) are standing trial on charges of promoting terrorist acts in
accordance with Article 8 of the Terrorism Law that was issued by a presidential decree after they were
arbitrarily arrested.
The Violations Documentation Center in Syria (VDC) reiterates that Mazen Darweesh, Hani Zetani
and Hussein Ghreir should be released immediately and unconditionally pursuant to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2139 of 22 February 2014, Resolution 67/262 of the UN General
Assembly of 15 May 2013 and dozens of other calls and appeals from international and local organizations. The VDC reiterates that no durable solution to the Syrian conflict is possible without the unconditional release, by all parties and particularly by the Syrian government, of all detainees who had
been arbitrarily arrested, and without revealing the whereabouts of all the forcedly disappeared, thus
abiding by the principles of the international humanitarian law, international human rights law and all
international and national relevant laws.
