Transitioning Accredited WellCAP Providers to the WellSharp Accreditation Program

Training providers awaiting IADC approval for newly revised well control courses may continue
to deliver their currently approved WellCAP courses. This delivery will be permitted for training
providers who meet all three of the following:
are actively seeking to realign their current WellCAP courses for drilling operations to
the new WellSharp standard,
are submitting required documents, and
are pending IADC review and approval.
Because this period of transition will be limited, providers should continue to work quickly to
resolve any outstanding issues with their course(s) conversion.
Training providers who have not responded to IADCs requests to realign their WellCAP courses
to the new standard are in jeopardy of having their accreditation revoked. If you are in this
category, you should contact IADC immediately to discuss your options.
Hardware Requirements for the IADC Knowledge Assessment (Test)
Training providers will need to provide each trainee with electronic access to the IADC
Knowledge Assessment database. Online access will be through the IADC website and a direct
link to the Assessment database. Details of the website and link will be supplied at a later date.
Information on offline access for electronic delivery will also be supplied at a later date.
In preparation for electronic delivery of the assessment, IADC wants to supply you with the
minimum system requirements for computers, tablets, or other devices that you may choose
for delivery of the assessment. The minimum system requirements are in Table 1.
Test Length and Other Test Details

Table 2 gives the proctor requirements for knowledge assessments and the maximum
time allowed for each test delivery. Should you choose to manage your trainee
assessments in a way that extends the amount of time a proctor will be required to be

present at your facility, you must communicate this to Lloyds Register at the time you
schedule the proctor for the test. Additional fees may apply.

Once the test has been translated into other languages, a trainee may take the test in a
language other than the one in which the course is delivered. This is contingent upon
the proctor and instructor both being conversant in the second language. Otherwise the
trainee may choose to test in another language, but needs to be informed that he/she
loses the ability to ask questions of the instructor or proctor during testing.

Proctor Services

The process for scheduling proctor services is being finalized and will be communicated
in the near future.

Training providers will not directly pay proctors for their services. Payment for proctor
services will be made either to Lloyds Register North America or to IADC, depending
upon the training providers primary location of the accreditation program.
Lloyds Register will directly manage payment of proctors for any training provider with
a primary base of accreditation in North America. Even if training and proctor services
are provided outside North America, Lloyds will manage the payment process as long as
the companys base of operation is North America.
IADC will manage payment of proctors for training providers with a primary
accreditation location outside North America.

Some companies may require that a service agreement be established with Lloyds
Register North America before direct invoicing for proctor services can be provided.
Those providers needing to establish a service agreement with Lloyds Register North
America should contact Michael Rogers, Lloyds Register, as soon as possible, at
proctor@lr.org to begin the process.

the above time allotments. The trainees performance on the additional questions will
not affect issuance of the WellCAP certificate.

Test Out Option for Satisfying the Introductory Course Prerequisite

Trainees with industry experience may satisfy the Driller course prerequisite by
completing the Introductory course or by demonstrating knowledge of the Introductory
course content. Demonstration of knowledge will be by the Test Out option available
up to forty-five (45) days in advance of taking the Driller course. The Test Out option is
available only for satisfying the Driller course prerequisite requirement. Taking and
passing the Introductory course Test Out option will not result in the issuance of an
Introductory Certificate of Completion. A Trainee wanting to pursue the Test Out option
should contact their training provider.
Training providers will be provided more details about the delivery of the test out
exam at a later date. Proctoring of the test is not required for the Introductory test or
test out option.
Test out option is available only for Introductory level course.

Course Length Training Day Requirements

Current requirements stated in the Section 2: Requirements for Accreditation, 2.5.1
Course Length and Assessment Requirements states that the maximum number of
training hours per day shall be limited to 9 hours per day, which includes time for
instruction, simulation, exercises, and written and skills assessments. This is being
changed. Just as the knowledge assessment time is outside the course length, the
knowledge assessment will also be outside the limits of the 9 hour day. The knowledge
assessment may extend beyond the 9-hour training day.
