ECE650 Digital Communication II
Communication Systems Overview: Communication System Structure, Basic
Communication Concepts, Modulation Techniques, Digital Communication
Systems, Information Measures, Channel Capacity Noise, Error and Coding.
Signals and Spectra: Sampling of Analog Signals, Discrete Fourier Transform
(DFT) and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).
Baseband Pulse Modulation and Digital Signaling: Pulse Amplitude Modulation
(PAM), PWM, PPM, Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), Differential Pulse Code
Modulation (DPCM), Delta Modulation, Line Codes Spectra, Multilevel
Signaling, Intersymbol Interference, Time Division Multiplexing and Packet
Transmission System.
Transceiver architectures and characteristics, Cryptography and Optical
communication systems.

Course goals
Ability to understand the analysis and design of digital communication
systems considering these four main concerns:
1. Selection of information bearing waveform.
2. Bandwidth and the power of the waveform.
3. Effect of system noise of the received information.
4. Cost of the system
