ISSUE OR PROBLEMS IN TNB

As we know, TNB Sdn Bhd is a largest power utility in Malaysia. It already gets recognition
and awards by government, and also in international. However, there is a lot of issue that give
influence to the performance of TNB.
In order to achieve the goals of the company, there are several conditions required. These
conditions include staff motivation, working environment, training and skills, and also
management. All of these are important to ensure that the performance of company can
increase time by time. However, these conditions are not successfully achieved in the
company.
Staff Motivation
Motivation is a basic psychological process that causes the arousal, direction and persistence
of behaviour. It is important to determine the employees ability to do the job given. The
ability to motivate employees is a fundamental requirement of effective management in the
workplace since motivated employees will help organisations to survive and succeed in the
competitive environment. That is why; managers always used this strategy to enhance
effective job performance among workers in organization, whereby managers will stimulate
people to employ effective motivation, which then resulting workers more satisfied with and
committed to their jobs. For example, the managers can motivate the employees by giving
them a good salary. For those employees that well paid, of course they are more motivated
and more discipline. Besides, the human resource manager can motivate workers by giving
them bonuses based on their competency. Competency refers to the ability to perform a job
properly. When there is the bonuses given to the workers, the more their commitment toward
their jobs. Other than that, reward is the one of the motivator to the employees which can be
in the forms of gold, cheque or things. The rewards are given to the employees that achieved
standard as well as motivation to them to increase their performance in jobs. Good motivation
of the staff will give good performance in TNB. Other than that, it is important for the people
placed in work environments that t are more likely to intrinsically enjoy their work.
Working environment
Improving the work environment will increases productivity of the company. The work
environment may include the organizational environment, and workplace design.

For organizational environment, it determines the manner and extent to which roles, power,
and responsibilities are delegated, controlled, and coordinated, and how information flows
between levels of management. Environment is made up of the administrative, technological,
political, economic, socio-cultural, and stakeholder factors in company. All of them are linked
to each other which provide multiple contexts that affect the organization and its
performance, what it produces, and how it operates. In short, employers need to provide a
healthy working environment to enhance job satisfaction. A satisfying work environment and
a good relationship between the worker and employer can help reduce the turnover cost and
increase production. Good work ethics shown by the worker will eventually have a positive
impact on the employee-employer relationship.
Besides, workplace design is also important to create better and higher performing workplace
which will result in worker productivity. A person whose work individually and interact with
others requires different workplace solution. Besides, if there are skilled and motivated
workers, but the work environment is not good, there will not be able to perform effectively
unless their work environment maximises supports and minimises constraints. Other than
that, the workplace must be in safe conditions, so that the workers are protected from any
dangerous or threat that might be injured them. So, the workers are able to work comfortably
without worrying being injured.
Training and Skills
Most of managers sent their employees for training because of performance problems arise in
organizations. However, employees often questioned the value of the relevance of training
they received as they returned to work environment that did not support a change, even
though they wanted to make some changes in their behaviours and trying out new skills on
their works. In other words, the training process is not succeeding if the working environment
is not supported for the changes.
However, TNB Sdn Bhd has own training and skill which is ILSAS or TNB Integrated

Management
Organizational management requires certain managerial skills for effectiveness and efficiency
in resource utilization for results. Strong and effective management is the key to the
establishment and continued success of any business operation. The key to good management
is to be able to examine the market place and its environment and create opportunities that
generate growth and profit for the business. In other word, management is required shared of
responsibility. In any good management, forecasting and planning are the basic functions.
Forecasting is the more critical responsibility since any planning is only as good as the
forecasts they are based on. There are three basic categories of the planning.
1. Strategic planning: This is the process of deciding the goals of the business. They are
usually long-term and look well into the future of the business, rather than just being involved
in the present. The strategic plan really sets out where the business is going.
2. Technical planning: This is the process of developing short-range plans needed to achieve
certain strategic goals and requires the analysis of current performance and other data.
Technical plans usually have a short-term usage and their main purpose is the completion of
tasks at the present time.
3. Operational planning: This is the process of developing all the ways that the tactical plans
can be achieved. It is responsible for getting things done.
Besides, the collaboration of management team is important. If the management team relation
is not good, it will affect the organizations. Below is behaviour that must have in any ideal
management team.
Good organisers and planners - they look ahead and can pull together whatever is needed to
get there.
Confident - they act positively and decisively with the available facts.
Empathic - they are sensitive to the needs of others.
Trusting and honest - they are open and honest in dealing with others.

They delegate authority - they allow others to have control and freedom over some areas of
the business.
Gives feedback on performance - they tell people how they are doing and are very good
teachers.
Good listeners - they listen and react to what is said, as well as listen to people sincerely.
