The Southern Sunshine Scholarship (which is comparable with the model of the
American Fulbright Scholarship) together with the Elite StudyinTaiwan Oce takes
the English taught international curriculum, student recruitment and scholarship
information of local participating Taiwan Universities and mails it directly to 1,200
university presidents, vice presidents, international oces and student aairs oces
in Southeast Asia. Via this channel they hope to attract university professors and
students to apply for studies at Taiwan schools. Currently there are 34 universities
participating in this program and we have 40 alliances with foreign schools. In the
future the plan is to match Taiwan schools up with foreign schools and explore the
cooperation possibilities.

Yinn-Yun Chang
Chinese Culture University, Taipei
Master
From Malaysia
Live yourself as what the local's people living! This is the upmost meaningful life thought I've gained during my postgraduate studies in this awesome and beautiful island- Taiwan. Albeit I just spent two semesters over here so far, but the culture
of the Taiwanese people has amazingly wooed me to like this place deeper and greater. I am going to appreciate the rest
of my semesters here by all means of the excitement and fulllment I could do, denitely.
As a mother of one infant whom still hunger for mother's cuddles and cares, I've decided to accept the scholarship oered
by Chinese Culture University (CCU) located at Yang-Ming Shan Taipei, via the courtesy and assistance of ESIT organization to further my Master of Journalism there. This was the toughest decision I have ever made in my lifetime but no regret
I should said. At least, I made to checked one of my wish in my bucket list proudly, ha. Most signicantly, I have a very
supportive family that backed me up to pursue this dream without much worries and burdens upon my journey to Taiwan.
In my rst semester, just a week times of transition period has been taken to tackle my homesickness and new campus live
adjustment. The feeling of anxious and loneliness has no time to proliferate fast as the activities scheduled throughout the
orientation week were buzzed us out. Greeting, meeting, knowing friends from all around the world helped bunch to
soothe the negative feelings yet conversely rejuvenate the excitement to looking forward for the new chapter of campus
live in CCU.
The images of my rst day in class still ashing fresh in my mind now. My enthusiasm to strengthen my portfolio and
credibility in communication studies much encouraged and assured after the meet up session with several credible professors from my department. Everyone of them shared their backgrounds and the valuable experiences in the academic pathway accomplishment. The priceless sharing session had inspired me immensely. None the less, the new classmates who I
have just got to know during the rst class were pretty interesting too. Although all of us mostly came from Asian countries
(Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia) but the backgrounds and our major elds were surprisingly diverse. This provide
a better opportunity for everyone of us to spend more time to know each other deeper in the sooner future.
New life in Taiwan wouldn't be full or complete if without spending time to stroller around to observe and witness how's
the Taiwanese people spend their time and lives their life in Taiwan. Throughout the places and the cities I've visited during
my leisure time besides classes, Tai Chung () Nantou county CingJing Veterans Farm () was the one I loved
most. Seated approximately altitude 1,750m above the sea level , the chilly and breezy fresh air denitely won't make you
down but rather gave you the optimum energy to recharge yourself. The tranquil greenery scenes and the green green
grass everywhere ultimately make you feel like want to be the sheep there which embraced by the Mother Nature loves.
For those who loves to enjoy sunrise, there is a must-go spot called HeHuan Mountain () for you to capture the
superb magnicent sunrise moment.
Something special I've spotted here in Taiwan wherein it's quite unique for me: the queuing culture! No matter where you
are or what you are doing, it is extremely common for the people here to queue for turn despite you are younger or elder,
male or female. For me, this phenomenon expresses pretty much on Taiwanese's culture to practice tolerance, patience
and harmonize morality among the societies. Hence, another cultural here which impressed me a lot is the "priority seats"
practices inside public transportation for instances metro, buses or trains. Priority seats that meant for needy people
always leave empty without being occupied even though it is highly crowded during peak hours. People always extended
their helping hands if you need any seats or any helps when you are on board. This, makes me really impressed!
Besides accomplish my ultimate goal to get my master scroll, the next goal I wish to achieve within my staying overhere
is, gaining specic valuable internship or working experiences in Taiwan's media industry. I strongly believe with certain
kind of hands on practical skills gained from dierent nations or dierent backgrounds, do excessively help in my next
career prospect and development. All the hard works and eorts shall pay its price eventually. Thus, just stay focus and be
positive in whatever you trust on. Last but not least, my heartiest appreciation towards the scholarship oered via the
crucial platform provided by ESIT (Elite Study In Taiwan) to fulll my dream. Wishing my fellow course mates graduate
with ying colors and the best in their future endeavors.

I have been staying in Taiwan (formerly known as "Formosa")-a beautiful island for 5 months and also nished my rst
semester. While most students choose to enroll for fall semester, I was one of the minority students entering the spring
one. After spending a happy time with my family during the New Year, and farewell parties with friends, I backed up and
got ready to study in Taiwan to realize my dream.
I made my mind to enter National Dong Hwa University,Hualien to earn my Masters degree. The university is located in
Hualien Province, the central of Taiwan. Hualien is not only famous for beautiful beaches but also the center of earthquake.
But you do not have to concern too much about earthquake here, because the richter scale is quite small and it might be a
new experience. Moreover, Hualien is considered an extremely interesting and attractive attraction place in Taiwan.
Upon touching this Island; the spirit of traveling and site seeing was induced inside me, because I have a huge passion for
travelling and a 5-year tourism- major in college furnished me more knowledge and inspiration. Indeed, Hualien in general
and National Dong Hwa University in particular gave me a pleasant surprise by incredibly beautiful scenery. I still remember the feeling when I rst came here; it was so amazing and excited. Later, my Taiwanese classmate told me that National
Dong Hwa University is one of the most beautiful universities in Taiwan. It makes me proud so much!
Taiwan holds a soft spot in my heart not only for beautiful scenery but also Taiwanese people also very pleasant, friendly
and kind As an English saying, It is the rst step that counts but I always keep my hope and take endless eort. The rst
day arrived at Taoyuan airport; I lost a suitcase that later I realized the cards attached to my suitcase dropped o when I
took my transit ight in Hong Kong. The stas at Taiwan airport was dedicated in helping me to deliver luggage to school.
The responsible and enthusiastic attitude of people here made me warm and happy when I rst came to a faraway country.
The new country, new environment and illiteracy of Chinese language made me terribly clumsy to nd the way back to
school. But luckily, some friends oered me a lift to dormitory when they found me confused about location. I really highly
appreciate for Taiwan's assistance and support. And that was memory of my rst day putting step to Taiwan.
Finishing the rst semester at National Dong Hwa University with international students, Taiwanese professors and
colleagues, I can feel the warm-hearted, the caring, enthusiasm and friendliness of the people here. I can feel that the
sights of Taiwan are not the main highlight of this island but its people because the Taiwanese are very friendly and helpful
Besides Taiwanese peoples hospitality, I also nd Taiwanese cuisine is extremely unique. Taiwans people have always
enjoyed a thriving culture of street-stall and night-market foods. There are many cant-miss attractions on the itineraries
of foreigners. But while street-stall and night-market oerings- known collectively as little eats such as fried chicken
(jipai), soybean soup (touhua), bubble milk tea, macaroons, assorted sausages, grilled seafood ... and other food that I
cannot even remember the name. Junk food is extremely tasty, attractive, particularly with the young. Unsurprisingly, I
therefore have gained 4 more kg and now struggling to lose weight. To carry out this task is undoubtedly challenging
because the food here is everywhere I go and it is super and incredibly attractive. Taiwanese food is seducing me every
second.
The weather in Taiwan is quite pure and pleasant but sometimes a little bit kinky because of erratic rainfall. Due to the
uniqueness in geography location, Taiwan often has rain, especially in the summer. Therefore, one of inseparable thing
things is umbrella, because rain can come suddenly without any warning signs. In addition, Taiwan has four full seasons like
Vietnam: spring, summer, autumn and winter. I already experienced the rst summer in Taiwan, and indeed it was a burning hot summer like Ha Noi - my hometown in Vietnam.
I have never regretted about choosing to study in Taiwan until now. Currently, I am having a part time job and enjoying the
rst summer here. The life of a studying abroad- student is full of homesickness, and family reunion memory, or missing so
badly your countrys food when you suddenly see some delicious food on Facebook. The life here is also full of extremely
new, exciting, and amazing new friends.
If you wish to choose Taiwan as the next stop for your higher education, the only thing that you should keep in mind is
cherishing the time in Taiwan.
