Powdered milk contains a host of vitamins such as A, D, E and K. According to the U.S. Dairy
Export Council, vitamin A is beneficial for your immune system, reproductive system and vision
and aids in cellular growth and differentiation. Vitamin D helps your intestines absorb
phosphorous and calcium, which aids the bones, joints and heart. Vitamin E is a powerful
antioxidant that protects lipoproteins and cell membranes as well as stimulating your body's
immune response to disease. Vitamin K is important for proper blood clotting.
Condensed Milk
Condensed milk is made with the same vacuum process, but sweetener is added, creating a product this is
usually reserved for baking or cooking. FDA regulations mandate that Vitamins A, D, and C are added to
evaporated milk; however, only vitamin A needs to be added to condensed milk. Both milks are high in
calories, but it is the sugar condensed milk that is much higher in calories because of the sweetening
process. One can find many different varieties of evaporated and condensed milk including skimmed,
whole, or low-fat. There have even been chocolate and vanilla varieties popping up in stores.
Sugar
Over the past few decades sugar has been categorized as a tempting but hazardous ingredient,
indulged in by the undisciplined and avoided by the virtuous. Expanding waistlines, increased
health problems and hyperactivity in children were all chalked up to Americas increasing
consumption of sugar.
Butter
Butter is healthier than margarine. In fact, butter is just healthy overall. As I type this, I can hear
dozens of people exclaiming, What? I always thought butter was the enemy? Butter makes you
fat and margarine is the healthier option because it is low in saturated fats, and cholesterol. As it
turns out, weve been misled. Compared to other spreads, and margarine, butter may actually
turn out to be the best, not to mention, healthiest choice!
