Trujillo is located at the west side of Venezuela.


Its capital is Trujillo, but its main city is Valera.
Its boundaries are:
North: Zulia and Lara
South: Mrida and Barinas
East: Portuguesa
West: Zulia
Description of the place.

Trujillo is mainly a mountain state because it is located at the Cordillera de Los Andes, it also
has some hills and plains. The tempeture of the state goes from 10 to 20 degrees.
This is a mainly and agricultural state but tourism is growing because of its beautiful landscapes.
The main touristic attraction of the city is the Virgen de la Paz but there are also many natural
attractions that can be enjoyed by the tourists.
Celebrations
Bsqueda del Nio (Searching of Baby Jesus)

The Bsqueda del Nio takes place in January at Bocon.


The citizens act the robbery of an image of Baby Jesus, so everyone has to find it and return it to
its place.
Usually, groups of kids get dressed as the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and angels search the image
of Baby Jesus, starting at the place where it was robbed and ending at the place in which the
burglars saved it.
When they are found, the burglars are arrested with ropes.
Then, the whole city joins in a procession to return Baby Jesus to his place. People usually sing
religious songs, eat special meals and share some drinks watching the fireworks.
Dia de la Virgen de la Paz: (Day of the Virgin of La Paz)
In January 24th, the bells of the Cathedral of Nuestra Seora ring to announce the day of the
saint of Trujillo.
This day is celebrated with a Mass, a procession and ends with fireworks.

San Benitos Day

It is a celebration that takes place once a year at December 29. It is a religious event in which
San Benito (an Afro-American saint) is venerated with several processions carrying his figures
and images around the city.
As the procession goes on, several traditional dances and music takes place.
Los enanos y la Mueca de la Calenda

This activity takes place in December at the end of the Christmas Masses.
It is said that this dance was an indigenous tradition of the aborigines of Santiago and San
Lzaro
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Monumento a la Virgen de la Paz (Monument to the Virgin of La Paz)

This is a huge statue located at a mountain called Pea de la Virgen. This statue was made by
Manuel de la Fuente, it is 46.72 meters long and it has five viewers.
Tourist can enjoy a beautiful upper view of the whole city and its boundries, including the Lago
de Maracaibo.
Parque la Piedra del Zamuro

It is located at the west of Betijoque and it has an extension of 2 hectares.


It is a viewpoint in which tourist can get to see the area of the Llanos del Cenizo. It has a small
river called La Viejita and a there is a small spring.
The name of the attraction was given because of the stones that are all over the place, there is
one that stands out, that is sustained by two huge rocks that form a little cave.
Tourists can enjoy the wonderful views and swim in the river and the spring. The only service
available is a public bathroom.
Parque Nacional Guaramacal

It is located at the Va La Vega de Guaramacal. The park is a nature reserve that has 21.000
hectares of natural mountain landscapes with a variety of vegetation, fauna and rivers.
There are some pre-hispanic caves that havent been complete explored.
Tourist can hike, camp and picnic.
Parque Nacional Dinira

In this national park the tourist can see the beginning of the most important river of the region,
the river El Tocuyo. This is a mountain landscape that has 45.328 hectares. There are also some
caves like La Poena and El Zumbador.
In the highest relieves there are some glacial lagoons and waterfalls like El Vino, that is 90
meters high. The fauna has several animals in extinction like the frontino bear and the jaguar.
Parque Francisco Jos Matheus

It is a small geography of mountains, hills and plains that brings protection to the ecosystem
and the vegetation; it also makes the national monuments and parks, unique places to visit.

Chapel Jos Gregorio Hernandez

Jos Gregorio Hernandez was very recognized in Trujillo, also known as El Siervo de D-os.
According to the population that resides in this State, he was the kind of person that could cure
everything. With his death, people decided to make him a chapel in the place where he was born
in order to remind him.

Talking about Trujillos gastronomy is going ahead the varied


and complex culinary species. It is not possible to identify the
people of Trujillo by the food or seasoning; gastronomically

speaking it can be identify with the variety of plates that can


be offer to the guests.
In Trujillo plates it can never be forgotten the coffee, the chili
and other seasonings like milk, water or whey.
Tipical dishes:
Mojo trujillano: made with a stew made with egg, salt,
coriander, onion, garlic and laurel. It is the most traditional
and native dish
