As the official wireless provider of the 119th Boston Marathon, AT&T will again offer a host of mobile
features to help keep runners and spectators connected on Marathon Monday. This will include:
AT&T Athlete Alerts: Marathon fans who want to track the progress of their friends and family,
or their favorite elite runner, can sign up to receive email or text alerts, in real time. AT&T is once
again the Exclusive Sponsor of the popular AT&T Athlete Alerts. Signing up is easy. Simply text
RUNNER to 234567 and get signed up to receive up to eight text alerts per bib number for
course updates on your runner. AT&T will also provide tablets at the AT&T Athlete Alert
registration area at the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo during race weekend for those
who want to sign up to receive the alerts. You can also sign up for text or email alerts online at
www.baa.org. Program sign-up is available now. Online registration closes on Sunday, April 19
at 6 p.m., but AT&T also allows registrations by mobile phone during the Marathon. If you sign
up, you will receive text alerts when your runner reaches the 10K, half marathon, 30K, and
new this year! 35K and 40K marks and finally, from the finish line. (AT&T Athlete Alert
participants will receive up to eight texts per bib number. Data and message rates apply.)
Free Communication Centers: AT&T will offer three Communication Centers for finishers in
the family meeting area to help runners contact their loved ones after the race by phone or text.
The calling centers will be located on Clarendon, St. James and Stuart streets.
Increased Network Capacity and Free Wi-Fi: AT&T will provide free Wi-Fi to its customers at
the Marathon start line in Hopkinton and at the finish line on Boylston Street. AT&T also boosted
4G LTE network capacity at cell sites along the marathon route, and will bring a Cell on Wheels
(COW) to Copley Square to accommodate expected increased network demands.
Boston Marathon App Runners and fans can use the B.A.A.s mobile app the Official
Boston Marathon App, powered by AT&T to learn about the race and competitors.
AT&T is also sponsoring free finish line photos for runners and fans. AT&T staff will take photos at the
finish line on Saturday, April 18 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., and on Sunday, April 19 between 11 a.m.
and 5 p.m., and the keepsake photos will be placed in commemorative frames and available at AT&T at
699 Boylston St.
