SpeakingBingo
ThisideacameupinourtwoweeklyFridayseminar,nearlytwoweeksagonow(howtime
flies).Theseminarwasaboutteachingteenagers,andatthispointwerewerediscussingthe
differencebetweengamesandaddinggamelikechallenge,andsharingideasforhowtoadd
gamelikechallenge.OurYLcoordinatorsuggestedSpeakingBingo.

Aim:
Encouragelearnerstoincorporatetargetlanguageintotheirspeaking.Givelearnersadditional
motivationtospeak.

Procedure:
Priortoaspeakingactivity,havestudentsmakeupabingocardforthemselves.Ineach
squaretheychooseapieceofvocabularystudiedinthatlesson(orfromasetstudied
previouslythatyouwantedtoreview).
Duringthespeakingactivity,studentstickoffeachbitofvocabularyastheyuseit.
FirststudenttotickoffallthebitsofvocabularygetstocallBingo!

Insteadoftickingoffthewordstheyusethemselves,youcouldgetthemtostartatimerand
tickoffanytargetlanguagetheirpartneruses.Theirpartnershouldbetryingtouseasmuch
targetlanguageaspossible,andthewinnerwouldbetheonewhomanagedtouseallthe
languageontheirpartnerscard(whichtheywouldnthavepreviouslyseen)inthefastesttime.
