American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is a private research university


located at Banani in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 1994 by Anwarul Abedin
under the Private University Act, 1992. The university is an independent organization
with its own Board of Trustees. It offers several degree programs at graduate and
undergraduate level from its four faculties. The university has over 9,000 students with
over 280 full-time faculty members.
The field finance and accounting largely about helping organizations make money. There
is more to that task than meets the eyes. Most of the students of AIUB are taking Finance
& Accounting as major. There are some many reasons behind it. This is some reasons
like, Accounting and Finance are both valuable in every job sector all over the world; Job
are available in Accounting and Finance; Students are doing higher education after
complete BBA like CA , ACCA or FCA; other hand these are auto dual subject in AIUB
which helps to reduce extra cost of education.

1.1 Department of Accounting


Accounting we confer you the vision to see status of business. As a part of its
continuous thrives for excellence and with the understanding of the importance of
accounting education, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) has
introduced Department of Accounting as an independent department under the Faculty of
Business Administration. Since its inception Accounting Department is continuously
planning and implementing several strategies to create future Accounting leaders. As a
part of this never ending effort "AIUB Accounting Association (AAccA)" has been
established to address certain objectives like "Skill Development" (Through several
training programs, Workshops, Publications, event management, etc.) and Professional
exposure (Both locally and internationally).
The Department started its journey with an objective of creating, exercising and
disseminating knowledge about the measurement and communication of financial and
non-financial information. AIUB Department of Accounting offers a wide range of
market oriented courses and programs that will better enable students to fulfill
information thirst of the organizations that will employ them. We offer BBA and MBA
degree with a major or minor in accounting. The Department has designed both
undergraduate and graduate curriculum to allow students more flexibility in tailoring their
accounting program to meet professional interests and also to provide them an easy
access to professional accounting degrees like CA, ACCA.
Department of Accounting offers programs conducted by a number of highly qualified
faculty members holding remarkable exposure both in academic and professional arena.
Most of the faculty members are with professional accounting degrees that envisions
promoting and creating a learning environment through state-of-the-art facilities and
tools; expanded frontier of research-based knowledge; market oriented education and
international standards that enunciated development perspectives of the country. As a
result the Department is consistently ranked as one of the top departments as per student
evaluation. It would be worth mentioning that our alumni are possessing and performing

significant role in the business community and also are associated with major accounting
firms of the country.

1.1.1 Career opportunities in Accounting


Accounting jobs offers stimulating and challenging work that is constantly evolving.
Because accountants spend a lot of time looking under the hoods of businesses they really
learn the nuts and bolts of business. It's no surprise that many successful players in
business began their careers in accounting jobs. It's also no surprise that most Chief
Financial Officers of large corporations have a background in accounting. An accountant
is perfectly positioned to become a CFO because he or she probably has the best
understanding of what drives business and profits in a company.
It's also worth bearing in mind that accountants are in perennial short supply. Accounting
jobs are plentiful even in the current weak economy and the money for well trained
accountants is good. Taxes, audits, bookkeeping will always need to be done. With the
various financial scandals in recent years, the field has expanded.

1. 2 Department of Finance
Finance is the lifeblood of firms. Firms are the driving forces of modern economy.
Economic system is crippled in the absence of efficient and proper financial system, a
means by which an economy allocates money to its highest valued use. The focus of the
financial system is to make sure that those with good ideas get the money necessary to
implement the ideas. The Department of Finance at American International University
Bangladesh is a leader in experiential education in finance. The departments primary
objective is to focus on two critical issues. The first is determining value and the second
is making the best decisions with respect to value. Undergraduate and graduate students
at AIUB can take advantage of the BBA and MBA in Finance degree in many ways as the
Finance Department provides students with many learning opportunities. Within the
classroom, we offer a wide range of classes taught by our experienced and versatile
faculties in the field of Investment, Valuation, Corporate Finance, Banking and
International Finance. Members of the Department of Finance blend their professional
experience with outstanding research and commitment to their students.
Department of Finance helps students analyze financing problems happening around the
world in various different dimensions. This is further ensured by emphasizing teaching
with case studies specific to various nationally and internationally-recognized firms.
Moreover, courses are packaged such that students are equipped with knowledge of the

cutting-edge research in finance as well as practical work in the field through field visits,
study tours, simulated portfolio investment as well as internships. The Department of
Finance also helps students to prepare for various professional programs like CFA and
CFP. Combined with AIUBs other departments and programs, the department provides
finance students with the choices and resources they need to excel in their academic and
professional careers.

Students of AIUB those take major in Finance & Accounting have to do minimum four
Finance or Accounting major courses.

1.2.1 Career opportunities in Accounting


There are many job opportunities in this field including corporate finance, financial
planning, investment banking, insurance and real estate. You will find some
comprehensive info on this site in these and a number of other career areas. You will also
find links to quite a few other sites, finance job listings, recommended books and a list of
helpful headhunters.
1.3 Objective of Study
1.3.1General objective of the report
The general objective of this report is to carry out the Reason for taking Accounting &
Finance as major: Perspective of BBA in AIUB.
1.3.2Broad objective of the reportThe broad objective of the report is to get an overall idea about the General Banking,
Accounts Department, Foreign Trade and Credit Department in real practice.
To obtain the general idea about the Accounting & Finance students.

2.0 Research Method:

We prepared on the basis of the BBA students AIUB those are taken major as Finance &
Accounting. Quantitative research used to prepare this research. To prepare the report we
used to use both primary data.
2.1 Primary Data:
To collect primary data we used questionnaire and personal interview method. Our main
focus was questionnaire which was carrying a lot of research procedure. Interviews were
administrated by formal and informal discussion.
2.2 Secondary Data:
We used secondary data little scale. Its an uncommon topic secondary data were not
available. For secondary data we used internet.
2.3 Research Approach:
Our research approach was on the survey. We did our survey based on questionnaire and
personal interview method. We asked questions about why they dont take other major.
We also did for secondary data to do the survey.
2.4 Research Tools:
2.4.1 Questionnaire:
For collecting primary data we used questionnaire method and the question that will be in
MCQ type and open ended.
2.4.2 Mechanical Tools:
For our research paper used computer and its software like Microsoft word, Microsoft
Excel and for net browsing we have used Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.

2.5 Method of Collecting Data:

We mainly used personal interview as our contact method. We gave our questionnaire
form to a person to fill it up.
2.6 Method of Analysis Data:
After get the data we were analysis data base on some sectors of topic. We were analysis
data by showing statistic chart and pie chart outcome of data base which collected by
interviews.
2.7 Limitation:
When we were doing report, we faced some limitation. Limitations are given below:

We made questionnaires and analysis the data based on survey.

Which group did you study in SSC?


Based on survey of 30 students, most of the students studied commerce in
SSC and some students studied science and these students are interest in
Accounting & Finance. But non-one interested in Accounting and finance who
studied Arts in SSC.

Which group did you study in HSC?


Based on survey of 30 students, most of the students studied commerce in
HSC and some students studied science and these students are interest in
Accounting & Finance. But non-one interested in Accounting and finance who
studied Arts in HSC. Other hand some students are changed their group when
they admitted in college.

Based on 30 students, Average CGPA belongs to 3.25 3.74. Few students
CGPA more than 3.75. Fewer students CGPA below 3.25. Its show that
Accounting & Finance students are more active to their education.

4.0 Recommendation
To make a report on new topic it is not easy for us to complete the report perfectly.
Reasons for taking major as Finance & Accounting - Perspective of BBA students
in AIUB. As a descriptive topic and there is no extra information about the topic its
hard to find problem and give recommendation. There is some recommendation given
below
Accounting & Finance are important in every professional sector.
Every company needs Accountant and Financial employees to their company.
In AIUB, Accounting & Finance is a dual Subject, Which is not only save your
money but also save students time.
If a student wants to take 2 major at a time he has to take 16th courses. Students
dont need extra courses and you can add one other major if you want.

5.0 Conclusion
With short conclusion, our research will be based on Reasons for most of the students of
AIUB are taking Finance & Accounting as Major perspective of BBA. Finance &
Accounting both are valuable subject. Students like to take Finance or Accounting as
major because they want to develop their career in multinational financial organization.

More than 50% of AIUB students are taking Finance & Accounting. AIUB offers auto
dual with accounting and finance. As a result students are not only saving their money but
also saving their time. If a student takes two major he has to do 16 th courses. Six extra
courses mean extra money and extra time. But as auto dual courses he doesnt need to do
extra six courses. Both courses are depending on each other which help student to
understand about real financial position of a company how to deal with each other.

Definition
Accounting is process of identifying, measuring and communicating economic
information to permit informed judgments and decisions by users of the information.
Finance is the study of money within the firm; the business function responsible for
finding funds, managing them and determining their best use.

Corporate Finance - This course focuses on relevant topics regarding long-term and
short-term investment and financing decisions made by finance managers in a corporate

set-up. It provides an in-depth discussion of capital structure and dividend policy, and a
comprehensive analysis of various financing alternatives. Special emphasis is given on
valuation and capital budgeting, risk-return trade off, current assets and liability
management etc.
Financial Markets and Institutions - This course deals with the dynamics of financial
markets, and how along with financial institutions it plays a vital role in the economic
development of a nation.
Investment and Portfolio Management - The purpose of this course is to help students
understand how to manage investment funds to derive maximum benefits.
Capital Budgeting - This course is designed to focus on the in-depth theoretical
framework of capital budgeting as well as an application of capital budgeting tools in
long term decisions that include acquisition of fixed assets, investment in plant and
machinery, evaluation of a new project, risk and uncertainty, sensitivity analysis and
analysis of selective investment decisions.
Global Finance - This course is designed to focus on international and regional financial
arrangement and institutions.
Financial Derivatives - Covers forward contracts, futures, options, and swaps.
Introduces the markets for each of these financial derivatives and explain their market
valuations.
Bank Fund Management - This course examines the role and importance of bank
financial management to the modern bank.
Working Capital Management - Considers areas relating to various components of
working capital. Examine in practical issues and analytical models for the efficient
management of cash, accounts receivables, and inventories, along with the critical
appraisal of various sources of short-term funds.
Auditing - This course is designed to provide a broad foundation for all major aspects of
auditing. This course focuses on objectives, concepts, standards, strategies, processes and
communications relating to internal & external audit.
Taxation - This course is primarily designed to provide the students with a fundamental
understanding of taxation of business entities and individuals prevailing in Bangladesh.
Intermediate Accounting - Review of Financial Accounting, analysis and interpretation
of financial statements, acquisition of fixed assets, depreciation and disposal, intangible
assets and amortization, accounting of cash, cash book and bank reconciliation statement,
statement changes in financial position, cash flow statement, accounting for companies
incorporated in Bangladesh etc. are covered in this course.

Cost Accounting - The knowledge acquired in this course should help students to
introduce "Cost Accounting" as a separate branch of accounting, to give an idea about
measurement, analysis, accumulation and control of various elements of cost and
preparation of cost sheet and to get branch of accounting, to give an idea about
measurement, analysis, accumulation and control of various elements of cost and
preparation of cost sheet and to get students oriented with various systems of maintaining
cost accounting record
Accounting Information System - Advanced technology requires that all its subsystem
should move at a same pace so that there arises no system bottleneck. Accounting
Information is generated for decision making at a faster pace than before.
Advanced Financial Accounting - These topics include Review Financial Accounting.
The Accounting Cycle Consolidation of Financial Information, Consolidations Subsequent to the Date of Acquisition, Consignment and Joint Venture Accounts, Branch
and Departmental Accounts, Hire Purchase and Installment Accounting, Lease
Accounting, Accounting for Liquidation of Companies (Insolvency Act), Financial
Statement of Group of Companies, Accounting relating to Insolvency: Individual and
Partnership Firms and Valuation of Goodwill, Shares and Business.
Financial Statement Analysis - Financial Statement are extensively used by different
users in their decision making process. Just as there are many different users of financial
statements, there are various methods of analysis of financial statements.
