DOUARD CASSIGNOL,
DIRECTOR OF THE SCHNEIDER
ELECTRIC PARIS MARATHON
More than 54,000 runners have registered for the
39th edition of the Schneider Electric Marathon de
Paris. This is a new record, placing the event among
the three biggest marathons in the world, alongside
New York and Chicago.
This year, a second record has also been broken, with
more than 40% of foreign runners. In total, nearly
150 nationalities will be represented on the start line.
Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) is delighted to
welcome the growing number of women, who make
up 25% of the runners this year!
The 2015 edition will also feature the Salon du
Running, which has been entirely revamped,
focusing on new advances and advice for beginners
and experienced runners alike. The exhibition will
extend over 25,000m and will bring together 200
exhibitors to create a great experience for anyone
who loves running, with specific new areas set aside
for major running equipment providers, well-being
and womens running.
Running 42.195km in the most beautiful city in the
world also means improving the experience for
every runner. This year there is more entertainment
along the route than ever before, particularly in the
Tunnel des Tuileries, as well as in the stands at the
finish line to allow runners friends and families to
encourage them in the home straight.
A.S.O. wishes to thank the many partners who
have once again put their trust in the event, the
thousands of volunteers who support the runners
at the exhibition and along the route every year, the
local authorities, the Prfecture de Police and all the
emergency services.
Thank you for your loyalty to this major international
running event. Have a great race on 12th April!

GOLD RACE LABEL

As part of the preparation of its 39th edition, the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris has been
awarded the Gold Label by the IAAF (International
Association of Athletics Federations) for the
eighth year in a row and in 2015, it will be ranked
once again as one of the most prestigious and
popular road races on the international calendar.

42,195 KM
IN THE HEART OF PARIS
The most beautiful city in the world had to offer marathon runners the greatest marathon in the world!
No other capital in the world can pride itself on having more amazing scenery than that offered by the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris. Throughout the 42.195km, the participants will visit the City of Lights
most symbolic places.
Km 6-11. Once the pack has gone up Rue du Faubourg
Saint-Antoine, it will enter the 12th arrondissement by
Avenue Daumesnil. The runners will pass by several
typically Parisian markets before entering the Bois
de Vincennes.
Km 12. After a long straight stretch, a slight uphill
slope, the route of the Schneider Electric Marathon
de Paris will pass by the Esplanade of the Chteau
de Vincennes. The building, constructed from the 14th
to the 16th century, is the biggest royal stronghold
in France.

Km 24-28. This may be the most magnificent section

of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris. Having
run along next to the Seine on the upper quays, the
runners will then take the Voie Pompidou. The whole
of Paris will be revealed to them. When they leave
the Tunnel des Tuileries, they will be able to admire
the Muse dOrsay, the temple of Impressionism, on
the left. Several hectometres further on, they will run
through Place de la Concorde again, before heading
towards Place de lAlma where millions of spectators
traditionally assemble.

Km 13-20. When the pack crosses the Bois de

Vincennes, it will be able to finally get its bearings
in the heart of a lush green setting. These woods,
which represent 10% of Paris total surface area, are
the capitals biggest green space (9.95 square km).
Entertainment will then follow the marathon runners
throughout the race.

Km 2-4. Rue de Rivoli boasts an amazing view: to

the right, the Tuileries Garden and the Htel de Ville.
To the left, the arches and Place du Palais Royal. The
route is straight with a slight downhill slope.
Km 5. The runners will go through Place de la Bastille
for the first time. The first refreshment stand will
be set up here at the foot of the July Column.
The crowds will be huge: some runners will take
advantage of this to walk for a few metres.

Htel de Ville

P.04

Quais de Seine

Place de la Bastille

Km 31-34. The crossing of the 16th arrondissement.

The pack will go round the Roland Garros Stadium,
the venue which plays host to the French Open
before entering the Bois de Boulogne.
Km 35-41. The atmosphere will be calmer and the
runners will be able when they have mustered up
the strength to immerse themselves in the hushed
ambiance of the green lung in the west of the capital
(which is two and a half times bigger than New Yorks
Central Park).

Place de la Concorde

Start. The pack will start its journey by going down

the Champs-lyses. The atmosphere will be festive
as the tens of thousands of competitors go round
Place de la Concorde and are cheered on by many
spectators.

Km 29. Here they will discover the Eiffel Tower and

the Jardins du Trocadro. This is a special moment
for the runners, who for the majority, will now be
struggling to maintain the same pace as at the start.
But the atmosphere will remain festive, so their legs
will follow suit.

The Conciergerie

Km 42. On the outskirts of the Porte Dauphine, the

voice of the official announcer will become more
and more audible. The crowd will be dense when the
runners enter Avenue Foch. The last 200 metres offer
an amazing view: the finish arch and further on, the
Arc de Triomphe. So the end of the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris will take place in a magnificent
setting.

DISABLED SPORT
For many years the French Disabled Sports
Federation has been involved in the organisation
of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris for
disabled athletes and has been playing an active
role in developing the race within the context of
the event.
This allows disabled athletes in wheelchairs to
participate in the Marathon with a greater level of
comfort. They stay in the same hotel as able-bodied
elite athletes. Shuttle buses are available to transport
disabled athletes to the Salon du Running to collect
their race bibs at the Fdration Franaise Handisport
stand. Training sessions are organised on Friday
and Saturday in Vincennes to prepare for Sundays
race. The disabled participants set off ten minutes
before the able-bodied competitors. This allows the
disabled athletes who run or who are in wheelchairs
to compete on the same course safely. During the
race, the pack is escorted by a group of cyclists which
adapts itself to the competitors fast pace.
A specific refreshment stand and tent are reserved
for them at the finish so they can recover properly.
Lastly, a light-hearted lunch will be held for the
races participants on the premises of the Fdration
Franaise Handisport.

RUNNING IN 2015

A.S.O. CHALLENGES

A REAL TIDAL WAVE!

LETS REACH YOUR TARGET TOGETHER!

Nothing seems to be able to deter the rise of the running craze in France. Whether gentle joggers
or hardened marathon runners, racing on roads or trails, fans of mountainous terrain or obstacle events,
the running community attracts thousands of new enthusiasts every year. According to a study carried out
last year by Kantar Sport, 7.8 million French people stated that they ran at least once a month, compared
to 5.9 million in 2013, i.e. an increase of 32%.

Launched on 15th October 2012, the A.S.O. Challenges platform has established itself as a dedicated
area bringing people together and providing services and information for those involved in endurance
sports. More than 500,000 sportsman and women of all levels and from all disciplines Running,
Cycling, Outdoor and Adventure have already registered.

The profile of the 7.8 million runners

In less than three years, A.S.O. Challenges has become

the reference point for major public events organised
by A.S.O. (Amaury Sport Organisation). Its goal: to
bring people together and offer more than a simple
registration for a race, offering instead real support
from registration through to post-race support.

With over 50,000 people signed up for the 39th

Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, this race has
confirmed its place as one of the top three major
events worldwide.
The main trends
Running is increasingly popular amongst women.
The Kantar Sport study shows a 70% increase in
women runners between 2013 and 2014 (3.4 million
compared to 2 million). This spectacular rise can be
seen on the start lines. The number of women signed
up for the Paris Half marathon and the Schneider
Electric Marathon de Paris has increased by 4% this
year.

* Source data: 2014 Kantar Sport Survey

Generally considered a mature sport, more and more

young French people are also taking up running.
There was a 57% increase in the number of 25-34
years old runners between 2013 and 2014 (2.2 million
compared to 1.4 million). Running is an increasingly
connected sport. 41% of runners reported using their
smartphone and 54% a GPS watch to monitor their
training stats or their performance during a race.
Average marathon times for French runners in 2014:
3hr 56min for men and 4hr 18min for women.
Over 50,000 bibs were assigned in record time
for the 2015 Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris.
Never has there been so much excitement about the
capitals big race. This is conclusive evidence that the
number of runners daring to take the plunge and take
on the challenge of 42.195 km is constantly increasing.
Nevertheless the marathon myth lives on. With it,
caution shown by the great majority of runners who
make sure they test themselves over 10km and a
half marathon before taking on the challenge of this
symbolic road running distance.
During the first quarter of 2015, Amaury Sport
Organisation (A.S.O.) organises three races in the
streets and avenues of Paris. The Paris Half Marathon,
the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris and the
10km Lquipe: nearly 110,000 runners have signed up
for these three events which are unique in the world.
No other city offers such large-scale mass events,
on such a gently undulating route, over such a short
period. For runners of all abilities, it is the opportunity
to test themselves under race conditions and take
part in a festive race in one of the most beautiful
cities in the world.

The following different services are offered by A.S.O.

Challenges :
u Registration for all of A.S.O.s events.
u Advice on training, but also nutrition and health,
in the form of articles and videos.
u Creation of communities enabling people to find
their ideal training buddies.
u Interactive training programmes.
u Coaching sessions.
u Offers of accommodation.
u A n e-boutique dedicated to each event to
complement your registration with other course
options (e.g. photos, posters, T-shirts, engraved
medals, etc.).
u On-line access to your registration notification, to
be presented when picking up your bib.
u Detailed race results and a printable finisher
certificate.
u Videos of the competitions.

Advice provided by A.S.O. Challenges:

u Training programmes: coaches or former
professionals discuss specific points so that runners
of all levels can prepare their objective wisely.
u Nutrition: the best French specialists reveal
the appropriate nutritional habits for amateur
sportsmen and women to adopt.
u Health: priority is given to prevention thanks to the
feedback of specialists (physiotherapists, sports
doctors, podiatrists, etc.). Information about the
best way to treat injuries is also provided.
As well as providing advice, A.S.O. Challenges
organises training sessions, VMA tests and meeting
points when picking up bibs. Thus, the platform has
both a virtual and a real role to play and is both
digital and physical.
The information provided by each athlete is
registered on the A.S.O. Challenges platform, giving
A.S.O. access to precious information in order to
better organise and identify the needs of large-scale
mass events. It also, for example, allows us to optimise
management of the starting areas by running ability.
A.S.O. Challenges aims to develop an app so
that competitors can connect with one another
more easily, where and when the wish, using their
smartphones.

On 12th April, from the start line on Avenue des

Champs-lyses to the finish line on Avenue Foch,
the 50,000 runners will share a special moment with
Paris and the Parisians. This will be the biggest display
yet of Frances passion for running!

Children have their own special race!

For the sixth year, the Haribo Marathoons is one of
the most fun-packed events in the lead up to the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris. Organised
near the Champ-de-Mars and the Eiffel Tower, this
event is reserved for children from 5 to 10 years old.
The only requirement is to register on the Schneider
Electric Marathon de Pariss website and collect a
bib to take part in the race. Laughs and delight in a
sporting atmosphere Before they cover the distance
of the 1.2km or 2.2km according to their age, the
young runners can take part in a warm-up session
to music and a make-up workshop. At the finish
clowns and musicians will bring a short stretching
session to life and take part in the light-hearted prize
giving ceremony. Bonus: a complete breakfast will
be served to all the runners along with their medal.

ROUTE ENTERTAINEMENT
Once again on 12th April, the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris will confirm its position as the most
musical marathon in the world, with over 100 bands
and different kinds of entertainment lining the route.
This new symphony of world music includes a jubilant
collection of Brazilian and African percussion, covers
of pop, rock and rhythm n blues songs, brass bands,
and wind instruments. It will create an unbroken
musical ribbon throughout the race, supporting the
runners and making it the biggest musical event in the
running world. With emotion to help runners break
through the 30km wall, a new Sound and Light show
at Les Tuileries and hope during the darkest moments,
this year there are many surprises in store for runners
to help them through the most difficult parts of the
race.

THE PARIS BREAKFEAST RUN

A fun warm up!
A prestigious route running between Avenue Foch
(exactly at the finish line of the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris) and the cole Militaire (opposite
the Eiffel Tower), the Paris Breakfast Run is a 5-km run
for participants of the Schneider Electric Marathon
de Paris and their friends and family. Participants
must be over 12 years old.
A tradition the day before marathons!
Taking part is the name of the game, because the
Paris Breakfast Run isnt timed. Participants will be
given a technical T-shirt in the events colours when
they show their registration documents (at the Salon
du Running or on the morning of the run at the start
line). This T-shirt serves as a race bib and runners
must wear it if they want to compete in the Paris
Breakfast Run.
After the 5km, breakfast will be served opposite the
Eiffel Tower. Orange juice, coffee and a croissant:
an ideal and typically Parisian breakfast to build up
energy reserves 24 hours before the start of the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris.

BEHIND THE SCENES

OF THE MARATHON

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

WHEN THE BLUE LINE GUIDES THE

MARATHON RUNNERS

WONDERFUL AND ESSENTIAL

VOLUNTEERS!

From the Champs-Elyses to Avenue Foch, the blue

line is the perfect guide for the marathon runners.
Jean-Marie Grall, the official course measurer of the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris says: The blue
line is a guide for those running the 42.195km. It
is very carefully marked out on the Thursday and
Friday night before the Schneider Electric Marathon
de Paris. The employees from the capitals technical
departments are given police protection, while they
mark out the line positioned on a machine designed
for this purpose. The measurer adds: I personally
supervise the drawing of the line, because there are
always minor changes to make as well as obstacles
to avoid. You have to know the course like the back
of your hand in order to know where to go Every
year, on a Sunday in April, it highlights that Paris
streets and avenues evolve in sync with the marathon.

Volunteers play a central role in the organisation of

the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris. They can be
found everywhere, from checking medical certificates
at the Salon du Running to presenting the medals at
Avenue Foch. Sometimes they are visible, but most
of the time they work behind the scenes.
Olivier is 57 and is a former high-level marathon
runner (personal best: 2h1834). He says: Ive been
a volunteer and a coach for several years. For me,
this is a different way of running and of staying in
the world of athletics.
The mission carried out by the volunteers is
enormous! It includes distributing bibs and runners
bags, managing flows and helping to keep the route
safe, supervising the left luggage facilities and the
refreshments stands, distributing finisher t-shirts and
medals. In total, each competitor at the Schneider
Electric Marathon de Paris has a direct and extremely
personal contact with around ten men and women
dedicated to their job.

PACE SETTERS:
A PARISIAN SPECIALITY
This is the other major specific features of the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris: to allow
competitors of all levels to base their pace on that of
the pacesetters. The concept, invented by Dominique
Chauvelier, has now been adapted by most of the
international races. But no other marathon in the
world can pride itself on offering such a precise
service to competitors of all levels.
Laurent, from Savoie who has already run the 42.195
km in under 2h30, will be one of the pace setters on
12th April. He says: I am very touched to be honoured
in such a way and very aware of the importance of my
mission. The runners train for months to achieve their
objective. We need to help them reach the finish line.

Almost 3,000 men and women give

their time and their energy to the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris.

RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT: A PRIORITY!

For several years, the Schneider Electric Marathon
de Paris has held an awareness raising campaign
with French and foreign runners to encourage more
environmentally-friendly behaviour in public places.
A.S.O. works with Les Connexions to ensure that
the most popular sporting event of the year is truly
environmentally responsible.
Positioned at each refreshment stand, the aim of the
teams is to clear and sort the waste in the area. In
practical terms, this means that:
u The

bottles are opened in advance, enabling

runners to drink quickly and throw bottles into
the bins positioned along the 500m after the
refreshment stand.
organisation La Bouchonette will also be
present at each refreshment stand, collecting bottle
tops and giving them a second life, by exchanging
them for wheelchairs.

Les Connexions is a non-profit making organisation

working to improve waste recycling. It has more than
200 volunteers all over France.
In 2014, thanks to the active participation of the
runners, volunteers from A.S.O. and Les Connexions,
and the Paris waste management services:

THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF DRIVING

Olivier goes on: I used to be in charge of collecting

the timing chips at the finish line. Since they are no
longer used, I now supervise the left luggage at
Avenue Foch. This is a strategic position. I manage
approximately 150 volunteers - including around
thirty running buddies. In total, we handle more than
20,000 bags. He notes: At the finish line, it really
is all stations go. The runners want to grab their
things quickly and get changed. Sometimes they get
angry. But the volunteers do what they can so that
everything goes smoothly. At the left luggage area,
as at all the other stations, I think we do a good job!

THE AIM OF THE 2015 EDITION

IS TO DO EVEN BETTER!

Bearing different-coloured streamers mentioning the

target times very visibly, the 32 pace setters (four
per fifteen minutes) play a vital role for a significant
number of competitors: whether they are trying to
go under the barrier of 3 hours (for the fastest of
them) or simply to finish in more than 4 and a half
hours (the slowest pace), the marathon runners like
to be reassured by adopting the pace set by the
pace setters.

THE SUPPORTIVE
MARATHON

SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC,
THE TITLE SPONSOR

More and more French runners are following the example set by their British neighbours by adding a
charitable dimension to their athletic pursuits. In 2014, sales of charity bibs for the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris generated 610,000 for 57 charities via two fundraising platforms: Alvarum for France
and The Real Buzz for the UK. On top of this sum, thousands of euros were raised in personal pledges
made to the runners themselves. This years Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris will be another chance
for this tremendous outpouring of generosity.

Mcnat Chirurgie Cardiaque

This association enables children suffering from
heart defects to come to France for operations
when they cannot be treated in their home
countries. Every month, around twenty children
undergo operations in eight French cities. Besides
this primary mission, the charity also funds training
for attending physicians in the childrens countries
of origin and provides sponsorship for schooling.
As the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris draws
closer, Mcnat Chirurgie Cardiaque has set itself a
fundraising target of 24,000, enough to pay for
life-saving heart operations for two sick children.
Patrice Roynette, joint President of Mcnat
Chirurgie Cardiaque, confirms: Thanks to the
arrangements we have made with the Schneider
Electric Marathon de Paris team over the past 11
years, we have been able to provide operations
for 26 children suffering from heart diseases. This
year we are setting up Le Dfi du curoperation,
a programme in which highly motivated runners
combine tough personal challenges with their desire
to save childrens lives by really pushing themselves
in the marathon. Participants include rollerblading
champion Taig Khris, who will be running his first
marathon; one of our honorary patrons, who wants
to do her bit to support our fundraising; and Benoit
Zwierzchiewski (known as Benoit Z), a wonderful
coach and European marathon record holder. He says:
Preparing for a marathon is an enormous sporting
challenge in itself, but if you can transform that feat
into an act of solidarity, your efforts reap even greater
rewards!

Alvarum
Many charitable organisations have presented their
work and motivated runners to take part on behalf
of their causes. Among them:
u Institut Pasteur (Health - Research): By supporting
the Institut Pasteur, runners can help 130 research
units to continue to make decisive discoveries
against diseases such as cancer, infectious diseases
and genetic illnesses.
u Imagine for Margo (Health-Children): Created in
memory of Margo and all children affected by
cancer, Imagine for Margo raises money for ITCC
(Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer) and
to improve childrens well-being during their illness.
u The French Red Cross (Social action - Humanitarian
aid): For more than 140 years, the French Red
Cross has been committed to promoting health,
autonomy, emergency care, first aid, social action,
training and international solidarity.
u Mdecins sans Frontires (Humanitarian aid):
MSF strives to provide high quality health care
to improve practices to overcome poor quality
medical care for the most disadvantaged.
u Ligue contre le Cancer (Health - Cancer): By
initiating and funding research projects, the league
contributes towards significant advances in the
treatment of quality of life of people affected by
illness.

For the third consecutive year, Schneider Electric

is the proud title sponsor of the Paris Marathon,
a prestigious event that reflects the values of
Schneider Electric.
Dedication and striving for excellence are part of the
Schneider Electric culture. Schneider teams convey
these values with their ideas and solutions for the
future. In an ever-connected world, Schneider Electric
opens the door to new possibilities for more efficient,
productive, safer, and green living and working
environments.
The leading news this year is the participation of two
accomplished runners at the race. Schneider Electric
South Africa has invited Sintayehu Legese Yinesu and
Meseret Mengistu Biru, the male and female winners
of the 2015 Nike Soweto marathon, to compete at
this years marathon.

A growing movement
There will be over 2,000 Schneider Electric
customers, partners, and employees among the
50,000 runners registered for the 2015 Schneider
Electric Marathon de Paris. The 2,000 at the starting
line in Schneider Electric colours comprise of 1,200
clients and partners plus 800 staff, representing
nearly 30 nationalities.
The Paris Marathon has motivated and unified the
Groups employees. Teams of runners in France
and around the world have been preparing, both
physically and mentally, for the big day. More than
250 volunteers from Schneider Electric will be
welcoming participants at the Salon du Running
and cheering the runners on the race day.

Schneider Electric oversees the creation of a new

medal for the race.
For the second year, Schneider Electric led the
medal design for the marathon. Normal Studio,
an industrial creation agency founded in 2006 by
Jean-Franois Dingjian and Eloi Chafa, was selected
to create the new medal. The studio was founded
in the footsteps of the renown 5.5 designstudio.
Normal Studio presented an original design which
represents running and the values of the marathon.
The numerous interlocking cells stand for runners
working together to achieve the same goal. The
embossed design emulates the route with its highs

and the determination needed to cross the finish line.

Introducing Mobiya at the Salon du Running

Schneider Electric will be introducing the Mobiya
solar lamp for the first time at the Salon du Running,
ahead of the official May launch date for France. A
portable light powered by its own solar panel, Mobiya
also features a USB port for charging devices, such
as smart phones and cameras.
Mobiya is designed by Schneider Electric under
the Access to Energy programme for communities
with limited or no access to electricity. Economically
disadvantaged populations are estimated to spend
between 20% to 40% of their income on energy
sources that are unreliable and unsafe for health
and the environment.
As a result of meticulous research, Mobiya lamps
are ergonomic, shock resistant, and waterproof. It is
suitable for both indoor and outdoor conditions. At
the Strategies Design Award, Mobiya won the Design
Product prize for its unique, outstanding design.

ASICS,
A MAJOR PARTNER

OFFICIAL PARTNERS

Interview of Olivier MIGNON,

Marketing Manager
Asics France
ASICS sponsors several major marathons on the
international calendar. What place does Paris hold
in your communication strategy?
Asics is proud to have supported the Schneider
Electric Marathon de Paris since 2009. Over the
years, this event has become a global benchmark
for the Asics brand. Alongside the marathons in New
York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris ensures that the brand is at the
cutting edge of running.
For the 39th edition, Asics is developing an ambitious
national communication plan to support the runners
who are rising to their own personal challenge.
To do so, we will host numerous events and adopt
various communication tools appropriate for this
internationally renowned event throughout this week
of festivities.
Every year you create a shoe for the Schneider
Electric Marathon de Paris. How would you describe
the 2015 model?
Paris is our opportunity to introduce runners to new
developments in the Asics brand. Every year we have
customised a long distance running shoe, the famous
GEL-Nimbus. This year, we wanted to focus on a
shoe with new technical characteristics: the 33-DFA.
The Asics designers believe that good quality running
depends on undertaking a range and variety of
training. As a result, we have focused our research on
developing a light and dynamic shoe which enables
runners to rediscover the natural movement of their
foot. This product combines Fluid Axis and Natural
Foam technologies, strengthening the runners
deep muscles and reducing the risk of injury while
preparing for the marathon. This 33-DFA shoe will
be customised for the event and will be on sale on
our stand at the Salon du Running.

Interview of Georgine TIXIER,

in charge of Nutrition
and Health Research

Interview of Audrey KTOURZA,

Group Manager
What types of innovative textile products is Asics
developing at the moment?
We are rapidly shifting our focus towards intelligent
fabrics. This is reflected in the recent agreement
concluded between the French company Citizen
Science and Asics. This agreement will give runners
the opportunity to wear intelligent T-shirts in the
coming months.

The banana is undoubtedly the fresh fruit that is

eaten the most by those who take part in endurance
sports. Is this why you are present at the capitals
marathon?
Everyone knows how much athletes appreciate
bananas and the nutritional benefits they provide
before, during and after a race in fact, thats one
of the reasons why were an Official Partner of the
marathon. Bananas are rich in carbohydrates, the
nutrients you need the most during intense exercise.
Theyre also a source of vitamin B6, which helps the
body generate energy. The other reason is that we
want to provide all the runners with exceptional
bananas of French origin for this marathon in the
countrys capital.
Whats so special about French bananas?
The 650 producers of bananas from Guadeloupe
and Martinique, who work together on family farms,
offer the only French banana that protects the
environment, defends human rights and works to
develop local economies. Building on more than a
decade of environmental action, the group constantly
improves its practices in order to better preserve
air, water and land, save energy, manage waste and
enrich biodiversity on its plantations.
The adoption of new farming practices and the
introduction of innovative technology aim to reduce
all the ways in which banana farming impacts the
environment. As a responsible employer, the group is
dedicated to protecting its employees and promoting
their expertise. Ninety percent of our jobs are on
permanent contracts. From the freedom to unionise
to professional training and statutory pensions, our
policies are head and shoulders above those of
other banana producers around the world. From an
economic point of view, it is also worth noting that
the group is the largest private employer on the two
islands, providing 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Why are performance drinks important for

endurance events such as the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris?
The principal losses to bear in mind for endurance
events like this one are water loss due to perspiration,
which is accompanied by a loss of sodium, especially
if the event is taking place in hot weather. It is
therefore recommended that runners take small
gulps of a performance energy drink at regular
intervals (every 15-20 minutes) in order to rehydrate
and replace sodium, as the drinks are formulated
specifically to fulfil these needs.
The drinks also ensure a steady supply of
carbohydrates (energy), which prevents athletes
from exhausting their bodies energy reserves
(glycogen) and therefore delays fatigue. Finally, the
isotonic properties of Isostars Hydrate & Perform
energy drink simultaneously promote hydration and
optimum absorption of its key ingredients (minerals,
vitamins and carbohydrates).
Have you noticed a change in runners expectations
of performance drinks in recent years?
Now that runners understand how efficient
performance drinks are, their expectations have
shifted to focus more on taste and acidity.
Flavours like lemon and orange are classic mainstays,
but new flavours such as mint and cranberry have
proved very popular. Isostar has also developed a
drink with a neutral taste and pH, the ideal solution
for athletes who get tired of flavoured drinks
quickly and who prefer non-acidic products.

FRANCE TV SPORT 3
THE OFFICIAL BROADCASTER

OFFICIAL PARTNERS
Interview of Jean-Claude BIVER
CEO of TAG Heuer
Founded in 1860, your company has been
involved in the world of sport for many years.
What values do you want to communicate?
Its true, TAG Heuer has a long history of sponsoring
sport in all disciplines. This allows us to promote
the values that we share with the world of sport:
challenge, competition and constantly striving to
do better.
Putting aside the world record breaking
performances, it is what anonymous amateur athletes
achieve when they run a legendary race such as the
Paris Marathon, which inspires us at TAG Heuer.
They train for many long months, following a strict
programme, often imposing severe schedules upon
themselves in order to achieve their goal: to run
more than 42km in one of the most beautiful cities
in the world. It is an incredible, outstanding effort;
only those who have tried know exactly what I am
talking about. I ran the New York Marathon and it will
remain one of the best moments of my life. It is not
only their bodies that marathon runners exhaust in
order to cross that finish line. We also exhaust our
mental resources, drawing upon sheer will power to
keep going. I admire this form of courage. It is the
personification of the message Dont crack under
pressure. That is why TAG Heuer is proud to support
these men and women.

Interview of Sarah SOLTANE,

Sponsoring Project Manager
What advice would you give to competitors in the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris with regards
to hydration?
Keeping well hydrated on a daily basis is important,
and even more so during sport. It is essential to drink
before, during and after exercise. Drinking Vittel
natural mineral water enables you to stay hydrated
throughout the race, maintaining your physical
performance! Vittel supplies more than 480,000
bottles throughout the race. These are available the
length of the race at the nine refreshment stands.
How are plastic bottles recycled at the end of the
Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris?
For the past five years, we have adopted an
environmentally-friendly approach with recycling
facilities throughout the race. Volunteers help the
runners to ensure their bottles are recycled. The
bottles are then collected and recycled by Paris City
Hall. Recycling is simple, but it is still not systematic.
That is why VITTEL natural mineral water is raising
the awareness of runners in the Schneider Electric
Marathon de Paris of the importance of recycling
and encouraging them to do so. So, after each
refreshment station, recycling facilities are available
to collect the 480,000 bottles which are 100%
recyclable, ensuring they go on to have another life!

Time is an important concept for marathon runners.

Is that why you have entered into a partnership with
the Paris race?
Back in 1916, when the Maison Heuer invented the
Mikrograph, the worlds first time recorder which was
accurate to a hundredth of a second, it pushed the
limits of precision in a considerable way. Since then,
we have continued to strive to do so. You could say
that, in the same way, pushing the limits of time is
what marathon runners are trying to do: the world
record for this distance was broken in 2014, an
incredible performance! We look forward to seeing
it being broken again in the near future. It is therefore
natural for a cutting-edge watchmaker such as TAG
Heuer to join the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris.
