Introduction
The present material comprises 4 selected instruction examples on the basis of which the manufacturing of
fitting key and sliding key joints can be practised in two commonly used possibilities, each.
Fitting key joints with roundended flat key,
Fitting key joint with Woodruff key,
Sliding key joint with straightended flat key and locking screws with ending keyway of
shaft,
Sliding key joints with roundended flat key and locking screws with closed keyway of shaft.
Since feather key joints are manufactured according to the function of the respective machine parts, simple
pieces for exercise have been selected, by which the assembly and dismounting of the joints can be
practised. The material for the exercises must be prefabricated on machines by turning, milling, shaping or
broaching; the indicated dimensions have to be observed.
The keys are taken from the standardized assortments or also prefabricated according to the required
dimensions. The prefabrication of the initial material is not described in these instruction examples.
In order to facilitate the preparation and carrying out of the work, the required materials, working tools,
devices, measuring and testing tools as well as auxiliary means are indicated.
Moreover, the basic knowledge required for the accomplishment of the exercises is mentioned. With the help
of the working drawings and the corresponding sequences of operations, the trainees can do the exercises on
their own.
