To Whom it May Concern,

I have had the pleasure of working with Brigid Houlihan over the past four years. I have
supervised her as a teacher in one-to-one tutorials, worked with her as a math instructor, and
collaborated with her in her role as Residential Supervisor. In all of my interactions with her, she
has been organized, effective, energetic, and professional.
In my role as Academic Advisor, I manage the academic life of 18 students including setting their
schedules, overseeing their tutorial, and ensuring that their teachers are meeting their individual
learning needs. As a tutor, Brigid carefully develops lesson plans and long-term projects that
engage a students interest, provide appropriate structure and support, and work towards larger
goals of independence and self-sufficiency. She develops a caring rapport with her students, and
they are quickly at ease in her presence. She is incredibly easy to supervise as shes responsive to
feedback, submits all paperwork in a timely fashion, and provides regular updates to keep me
informed.
As a classroom teacher, Brigid brings an incredibly high level of motivation and creativity to the
classroom. She has worked hard to develop useful and multi-modal reference materials that
students take ownership over and rely on for the entirety of their time at Landmark. She puts in
significant time out of class to prepare lessons that help students make connections between
learned and new material, and effectively incorporates technology such as document cameras
and instructional videos to involve each of her students. Students leave her math classes feeling
confident and capable, which is a significant feat since so many of our students simply assume
that they are not and will never be able to be good at math.
As a houseparent, Brigid runs an organized and supportive dorm. Girls know what is expected of
them and are encouraged to seek support from staff members. Brigid and her co-houseparent
keep 35 girls on track to develop independent living skills and find academic, athletic, and
extracurricular success.
In each area of Brigids professional life, she works to be reliable, creative, and highly skilled.
Whats remarkable is that shes able to tutor, teach, houseparent (not to mention coach a large
swim team each winter) without letting her standards (or energy) drop. Brigid is an incredibly
valuable member of our community, and I know she will be an asset to any program that she
chooses to join.
