Objective

Manage Photoshop layers

Blend multiple photos efficiently by masking
Use Photoshop filter options for images

Process

I opened a new document in Photoshop and changed from

portrait to landscape. (11X8.5). I placed an embedded image to
become the background of the document. I then opened a new
tab and used the lasso tool (with 150 pixels) to move the soldier
with the masks face onto the praying man face. I created a new
layer and started to blend the images together using the brush
tool. I then placed another image onto the piece of a soldiers
uniform. I blended that as well using the brush tool. The original
praying man had his eyes looking down, so I copied the eye from
another picture, used Photoshop to make it black and white. Then
blended the eye into his face.

Objective

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image

Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign

Process

I created my logo in Illustrator. I made two rectangles. These

rectangles varied in size and color. I used the rotate tool to to
rotate them by 90 degrees. I continued this process till there were
four sets of rectangles rotated around a pivot point. I placed my
logo image in InDesign and started with the business card. The
front of the card I placed the logo and the business name. On the
back, I contrasted the black from the front, to a teal. I used the logo
and made the opacity very light on the right hand side. The contact
information is a size 8 font in the lower left hand corner. The color
varies with the text on the back to create contrast.

Process

I used InDesign to create the letterhead for my company. I started

with placing the logo in the left hand corner. I used the line tool
to create a teal line across the top and bottom of the page. The
company name, KellNoel, I placed next to the logo. I used tracking
to spread out the words graphic design to align with the company
name across the top. I placed the information along the bottom of
the page. I used the teal line not only for alignment, but to space
out the information. I used the logo to create a watermark on the
paper. I turned the opacity down to 3%.

Objective

Find, scan, and import a high-quality image

Create a full-bleed design

Process

The entirety of this ad was composed in Microsoft Word. I started

by printing a picture off from the internet to Wal-Mart, then
scanning the image into the computer. I cropped the image to
follow the rule of thirds. I then made a variety of text boxes on the
left hand side. I put the transparency of all the yellow text boxes
at 30%. I did three rectangles to follow the rule of odds. I tried to
create some sort of race strip on the bottom. The two strips help
ad more of a design element. They create the feeling of a bike race.

Objective

Learn basic photography skills

Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels
Place text along with image

Process

I found some books in the lounge of Mountain Lofts and stacked

them to take a picture. I then uploaded the image onto Photoshop
and began to edit the levels, sharpness, saturation, and color
balance. I changed the red book to more of a brick color, and
added light to the right side of the books, and sharped the pages.
I did harsh lines on the top and side of the page. These lines went
along with the books, and brought the vocal point to the image. I
inserted the color wheel and used to eye drop tool to insure I was
keeping true to my color scheme.

Objective

Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basicu nderstanding of
CSS programing

Process

I relied heavily on two programs well creating my web page. I used

TextWrangler to write my HTML and my CSS. In order to have my
colors match my logo, I put my logo into Photoshop. I used the eye
drop tool to find the HEX code of each of the colors I planned on
using. Luckily the majority of the HTML code was done, I just had
to make a few alterations to the downloaded document. Thee CSS
is what took the most time. I found a website that had different
patterns that could be used for the coding of CSS, that is where I
got my black pattern. I hyper-link the word blog to take the viewer
straight to my website.

Objective

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document

Learn how to wrap text around an image
Use paragraph styles in InDesign

Process

I used the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator to outline the shape of a

cupcake for my logo. I did a text wrap around the image of the
strawberry cupcake. Before I was able to do text wrapping I had to
edit the image in Photoshop. I carefully traced around the single
cupcake and made a mask. The image on the back had ribbons
with words that went across. This gave me the idea to put my
headings on ribbons. This created repetition through the whole
piece, and unified it as a whole. I alternated the color of ribbon
and the text depending on each individual panel. To add more of a
design element to the brochure I did a chevron design on three of
the panels.

Our Story
Brad and Kellie met in a cupcake shop much
like the Cupcake Caf. They were both in
their last year of college and looking for a
sweet snack to get them through midterms.
Kellie ordered the last Red Velvet cupcake
and Brad stood there in disbelief that he was
one person too late for his favorite cupcake.
He was determined to get that cupcake, but
Kellie was not about to give it up without
a ght. He asked if they could share the
cupcake, Kellie agreed hesitatingly, and they
ended up sitting down and talking for hours.
Their love for cupcakes was no longer the
only love they shared. They soon fell in love
and opened a cupcake shop of their own, the
Cupcake Caf.

Adobe Illustrator

Objective

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image

Use the basic tools of Illustrator

Process

With my first logo, I created many small rectangles and arranged

them in a way that represented a sound system. As the rectangles
go up, the color changes. The second logo was definitely the most
challenging. I tried to re-create headphones. I used a variety of
shapes, and manipulated them to use accordingly. I also used a
picture to trace the arc. I used the pen tool for creating the cord
coming out of the headphone. This cord brings in the word sound
and makes the piece more unified. With the last logo I relied
heavily on the pen tool. I started at one point then varied from
short/tall, and long/wide lines. The lines on the right are shorter in
wavelength compared to the ones on the left. I did this to ensure
that it was not center aligned.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout
Create a project folder with image, logo, and InDesign document to

Process

I first downloaded the logo and the image to use in my flier. I did
the lines across the bottom and the lines across the top to create
unity and repetition. I brought attention to the words competitive
edge by making them bold and italic. I but the information aligning
with the bottom lines. The website is not critical information so I
made the text smaller.
