Montage
Description: An encouraging poster made by blending two images together.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: Feb 14, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Inspire the audience to do the impossible.
Process: Pictures where chosen and layout ideas were sketched out. I enhanced the picture and added the starry sky,
blending it in with the rock pictures. I added text and darkened the picture behind the text so that there was more
contrast with the background and the white text.

Stationery
Description: Company stationery to be professionally used.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
Date: March 1, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Present a professional look for the wholesalebolts.com company.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create and edit the logo. I separated the letters and but them together and used
different shapes to create the nut for the letter o. Then I played with the colors until I got what I wanted and
placed it into Adobe InDesign.
For the stationary I wanted to keep it simple and so I used the color of the nut in the logo to but a rectangle on the
top and bottom. I used the hexagon shape and extended it to create an underline for the logo and the washed out
letter B. I lined up the text information with the edge of the top black line. I keep the edges sharp and everything
simple.

Business Card
Description: A buisness card that communicates professionalism.
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: March 1, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Encourage customers to buy products from WholesaleBolts.com.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create and edit the logo. I separated the letters and but them together and used
different shapes to create the nut for the letter o. Then I played with the colors until I got what I wanted and
placed it into Adobe InDesign.
For the business card I continued to go with the hexagon theme and used it to create shapes on the sides of the
front and back of the business card. Once I again I keep it simple with just the information and the logo. For the
back I even included the scan code because so many businesses are using them these days. I keep many elements the
same to keep unity between the stationary and the business card. I used repetition with the hexagon shape showing
up in ways throughout the whole project which also added to the overall gestalt of the project.

Brochure
Description: A three sided, full-bleed brochure adverstising for BYU-I Recreational Sports.
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: March 29, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Inform students about recreational sport opportunities.
Process: First I decided what I wanted to make a brochure about and I sketched out some ideas. I picked a theme,
circles, I started in Illustrator designing the logo. I wanted it to be simple, yet effective. I experimented with different
fonts and layouts. Once I was happy with it I went to InDesign.
In InDesign I set up the parameters of where the folds would be. To go along with my circle theme I set up the pictures in circles with the cover cut in a half circle. I set the text and put text wrap with space on the pictures so that
the text would border the images. I also opened one of the images in Photoshop so that I could use a mask to help it
blend into the background a little bit.

Photo Design
Description: A Christmas card, showing photography and editing skills.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: Feb 8, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Give happiness and joy to those celebrating Christmas.
Process: First I sketched out some ideas of what I wanted the layout to be and what color scheme I wanted to do. I
took my picture and tried to bring out the specific colors of the theme (complementary). Since the colors were red
and green I knew that it was going to have to be Christmas themed. I used fonts that, even though they were both
decorative, contrasted and worked well together. I used Photoshop to edit the picture and design the layout. I used a
SX 150 IS PowerShot Canon.

Web Page
Description: A website I created to show the design skill of a logo I created.
Programs: TextWrangler
Date: March 14, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Showcase the logo and inform readers of the process used to create it.
Process: I used text wrangler to write and edit text. I changed fonts (and background fonts) and colors. I used Adobes online site to find a good color scheme. Then I used the eyedropper tool in illustrator to find the color that I
wanted to use from my background image as colors of texts and background texts. I changed padding and alignment
around the image to make everything look aligned and well connected.
I checked the coding online at w3.org to make sure that everything was good. There was an error in my css coding
that I had to go and fix. It wasnt apparent in the website but it was in the code. So then I fixed it and everything
passed. It was neat to see all the things you can do by typing certain words in certain places.

Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Encourage high school student to attend kick-off meeting for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Process: First I scanned a picture from an H&M catalog of the three little boys. I played around with some of the
filters on word, I didnt realize there were so many. Then I looked at some different fonts that would appeal to my
high school audience. I edited the logo to include the red heart so the red color theme would repeat throughout the
design. Added some backgrounds, arranged the text until I settled on this.

Logos
Description: Three different logos for the company WholesaleBolts.com.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: Feb 21, 2015
Course: Visual Media - Comm 130
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Give options to WholesaleBolts.com for a new logo.
Process: I used Illustrator Program to create all three logos. For the first project I created the bolt using the pen
tool. I chose a simple font that reflected the straightforwardness of the business. Then I also used the pen tool
the make the 3 curves that pull in the color scheme and add repetition to the design. For the next logo, I wanted
to use very contrasting sizes for the typography. I loved the bolt-ness of the font. I separated the word bolt
so that I could make a nut with the pen tool to use in place of the o. Then used kerning to put the letters closer together. To add repetition and gestalt I added black thin triangle lines. For the last one I created another
nut but instead of using it within text, I put text inside of it (the business initials). I but the name of the business below using the blue to emphasize the word bolt and the pull it into the monochromatic color scheme.
