Research Project:
Working on seed assisted, organic structure directing agents (OSDA) free synthesis
of industrially useful and environment-friendly zeolites (MTW and Beta). In any
commercial process, cost is the major determinant parameter and hence the
application of these novel zeolites is restricted owing to the usage of expensive
organic structure directing agents (OSDA) in their synthesis. Thus, the cost
reduction in the synthesis of these novel zeolites by using seed assisted OSDA
free synthesis constitutes an important area of our research. Currently we are
studying the various effects of gel composition, crystallization temperature and
crystallization time on the synthesis of MTW-type zeolites by the hydrothermal
treatment of sodium aluminosilicate gel with the help of calcined ZSM-12
seeds synthesized using tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) as the
organic-template. The product is characterized using the BET surface area analyzer,
temperature programmed reduction, temperature programmed desorption and XRD
analysis.
Industrial Internship at Reliance Industry Ltd., Patalganga : Para Xylene
Manufacturing Unit: During my internship I worked on designing a distillation
column for the prefractionation unit of the Para Xylene plant. In the existing unit,
the heart-cut naphtha (C7-C9) was obtained using two columns in series. The
main idea behind the project was to combine the outputs of the two columns
into one, such that the lighters (C1-C6) are the distillates, the heaviers (C10
onwards) are the bottoms and the heart-cut (C7-C9) is obtained from a sidestream. Using Aspen Plus, a column was designed and simulated with the desired
output. Apart from that a complete overview of the plant operation was understood.

Ranked 1 in the Department of Chemical Engineering, UPES, in a batch of 40

students, after the completion of 4 semesters.
Was among the top 1% students in the Maharashtra State Board Examination.
