Read the passage.

On my brothers birthday, he was given a kitten. It had

black, fluffy fur so my brother called it Charcoal. I thought
Charcoal was a rather silly name for a cat, whatever its
colour.
Even though Charcoal really belonged to my brother, it
always came to me for its saucer of milk in the morning. And
when my family watched television every evening, it would
snuggle up against my feet instead of my brothers.
Like all kittens, Charcoal loved to play. One of its
favourite games was to chase a ball of yarn. At times, it got
itself all tangled up. That was when it would meow and meow
till I went to its rescue. Charcoal would then lean itself against
my leg and purr gratefully.
Once my brother was jealous and said crossly, Charcoal
is mine, you know! Why is it always with you?
I shrugged my shoulders and quietly carried Charcoal to
my room.
