A. SeattleTilthsVisionforMcAuliffePark
SeattleTilthsvisionforMcAuliffeParkincludesavibrant,accessibleandmultifacetedurban
agricultureandlearningcenterthatengagesandinvolvesthecommunityinabroadrangeof
gardeningandnutritioneducationprograms,aswellasexpandedopportunitiestogrow,
harvestandaccesshealthy,freshproduce.Thisvisionisbuiltuponacommitmenttodevelop
andmanagethesiteusingorganicandsustainablepracticesthroughout,andwherepossible,to
incorporateasocialenterprisebusinessmodelinordertooperatesuccessfulprograms.
Ourvisionservesastheunderpinningforaprogramandoperationsplanthatisbaseduponour
actualexperienceincreatingRainierBeachUrbanFarmandWetlands,whichiswidely
consideredaregionalmodelfortransformingapublicparkintoavibrant,bustlingfarmand
environmentaleducationcenter.Furthermore,thisvisionandplanreflectsoursuccessful
effortsatthePickeringGardeninIssaquah,aswellasmodelsandbestpracticesfromother
successfuloperationsincludingZengerFarmsinPortland,Oregon,andGrowingPowerin
Milwaukee,Wisconsin.

CentraltoourvisionisourcommitmenttoworkingcloselywiththeCityofKirklandandto
fostereffectivepartnershipswithcommunitygroupsandresidentsandtoestablishaspiritof
openness,inclusionandcapacitybuilding.
Ourvisionfortheparkincludesavarietyof
usesthatwillbenefittheresidentsofKirkland
andthesurroundingcommunity.For
example,theparkcanbeusedasafieldtrip
destinationforlocalstudentswhousethesite
asanoutdoorlearninglab,wheretheycan
experiencewhatitsliketoplanttomatoes
andthinlettuceandhelptendaquarteracre
childrensgarden.Wealsoenvision
developingastronganddevotedcorpsof
communityvolunteers,includingneighbors
andseniorswhocansharetheirpersonal
storiesabouttheparksearlydaysandplayan
importantroleinterpretingtheparkshistory
anditsmanyfeatures.
Teensandyoungadultsalsohaveaplacein
ourvisionforadynamicMcAuliffePark.
Specifically,weseethepotentialtoexpand
ourSeattleYouthGardenWorksprogram,whichhelpsteensandyoungadultslearntoplant,
grow,tendandharvest,and,intheprocess,gainvitallifeandworkskillsthatleadtowarda
new,morepositivedirectioninlife.
Finally,thiswevaluethetremendousamountoftime,workandinputthathelpedcreatethe
McAuliffeParkMasterPlanandwerecognizethatthisplanreflectsthecommunitysideasand
aspirationsforthiswonderfulhistorictreasure.Thesitetrulyisagreatplaceandweseekto
operateanddevelopprogramminginamannerthatalignswiththeMcAuliffeParkMasterPlan
andrealizesthecommunitysvisionforMcAuliffeParkasaregionalmodelforanurban
agricultureandacommunitygardenandoutdooreducationcenter.
B. PlanforMcAuliffePark
SeattleTilthproposestodevelopabroadandrobustsetofprogramsthataddresscommunity
interestsandprioritiesandwhichreflectthefullspectrumofourlocalfoodsystem,including
organicfoodproductionanddistribution,gardeneducation,composting,soilandwater

conservation,cookingandnutrition,communityengagementandstewardship,andpark
restoration.Andthoughthisplanreflectsourvisionforcreatingavibranteducationand
learningcenter,itispresentedasaproposalwhichcanbeadaptedandadjustedasweengage
andlearnmorefromcommunitystakeholdersandpartners.
WealsorecognizethattheMcAuliffeParkMasterPlan
reflectsahighlyambitious,resourceintensivevisionfor
developingthesite.Weunderstandthattheplanwas
developedseveralyearsagoandthatwenowfacea
different,moreconstrainedeconomicenvironmentthat
willimpactourcapacitytoimplementthefullrangeof
identifiedactivitiesandelements.Thatsaid,webelieve
thatourprogramplanreflectsthecommunitys
prioritiesandaspirationsforMcAuliffePark.
Inparticular,thereareseveralkeyfactorsthatare
centraltothedevelopmentofourplanforMcAuliffe
Park,including:
Ourunderstandingofcommunityneeds,
interestsandprioritiesasreflectedinthe
McAuliffeParkMasterPlanaswellasour
discussionswithlocalstakeholders;
Ourunderstandingofactualsiteconditions;
Apracticalassessmentofresourceavailability;
SeattleTilthsexperienceindevelopingandoperatingsuccessfulprogramsthroughout
KingCountyforthepast35years;
Theexpertise,creativityandpracticalknowhowamongourprogramstaff;and
Bestpracticesandguidingprinciplesfromnationalmodelsforcenters,adaptedforthe
specificneeds,conditionsandopportunitiesatMcAuliffePark.
Inadditiontothesefactors,wehavecreatedaprogramplanthatincorporatestheparksmany
featuressuchasthearboretum,nursery,orchardsandwoods,aswellasthePpatchprogram
andopenareas.Ourplanalsoseekstoutilizeandincorporateseveralexistingparkstructures
includingthebarns,storagefacilitiesandespeciallythegarageareatothegreatestextent
possible.
Mostofall,SeattleTilthsprogramplanforMcAuliffeParkemphasizes,buildsuponand
incorporatesseveralcorepracticesandbeliefsthatarethehallmarkofourwork,including:

StewardshipandAccessSeattleTilthencouragesallcitizenstobegoodstewardsofthe
environmentandtoensurethatMcAuliffeParkisasafe,accessibleandwelcomingspace
wherecommunitymemberscangather,learn,playandbeinspired.Ourprogramplan
seekstobuildastrongsenseofcommunityconnectionandownership.
PublicBenefitOurprogramplanemphasizespublicbenefitinseveralcriticalways.For
example,foodproducedonsitewouldbeutilized,inpart,forlocalfoodprogramsand
communitymealsforseniors,familiesandotherswhootherwisehavelimitedaccessto
healthyfood.Farmandgarden
programswillprovideanopportunity
forphysicalactivitythatwillfurther
benefitthehealthofallparticipants.
Cookingandnutritionprogramswill
alsoprovidehealthynourishment
andincreasedconnectionamong
communitymembers.
Ourprogramplanalsoincludes
opportunitiesforKirklandareayouth
togainajob,asenseofbelonging
andachancetobuildskillsforfuture
employment.Anadditionalpublic
benefitisthatourprogrammingwill
engagepeoplefromdiverseethnic,
racialanddemographicbackgroundsaswellasvariedlifecircumstancesandexperiencesto
worktogethertowardacommonpurpose.
EducationOurprogramplancreatesandbuildsalearningenvironmentwherecommunity
membershaveopportunitiestolearnallaspectsoffoodproduction,includingorganic
gardeningclasses,soilandwateruse,mastercomposter/soilbuildertraining,habitat
restorationandmore.Eveninourfirstweeksandmonthsonsite,wewillofferskills
training,adviceandsupportfortheparksPpatchgardeners.Subsequently,weseekto
provideafullarrayofclassesthatcoveressentialfarmandgardentopicsthatrespondto
theexpressedinterestsandprioritiesofcommunitymembers.Similarly,welookforwardto
workingwithlocalschoolsandplantocreateachildrensgardenwhichcanserveasafun
andengaginglearninglabforstudents.
EngagementandVolunteerismAcornerstoneofourprogramplanistherolethat
volunteerswillplayinallaspectsofonsiteprogramming.Weenvisionacorpsofhundreds

ofvolunteerswhowillprovidevitalserviceinhelpingtogrow,tendandharvestproduceas
wellashelpingwithcomposting,habitatrestorationandotheraspectsoffarmandpark
maintenance.Towardsthisend,wearemembersofNourishingNetworkInstitute
includingtheKirklandNourishingNetworkandarebuildingnewpartnershipwithschools,
communitygroupsandcivicorganizationsinKirklandandsurroundingEastside
communities.
C. SiteProgramming
WehavestructuredourMcAuliffeParkdevelopmentplantoimplementnewandexpanded
programminginaflexibleandsequentialmannerthatbuildsuponinputandideasfrom
communitymembers,partnerorganizationsandtheCityofKirkland(seeAddendumB,
ProgramandStaffingMatrixonpage40).Thespecificprogramsweproposeandour
implementationtimelineprioritizesthefollowingelements:
1. Programsthatarefundamentaltourbanfarmingandgardeneducation;
2. Programsthatbuilduponandenhanceexistingonsiteactivities;
3. Programsthatcanbedeveloped,implementedandscaledtoreflectavailabilityand
sustainabilityoffunding.
Ourprogrammingplandrawsfromourhighlysuccessful
experienceincreatingandoperatingtheRainierBeach
UrbanFarmandWetlandsaswellasoursuccessfulwork
atthePickeringGardeninIssaquah.Wehavebuiltupon
theseeffortstocreateadynamicplanforafarmand
environmentaleducationcenterthatfeaturesthefull
cycleofagriculturalactivitiesthathighlightcommunity
participationandstewardship.Thespecific
implementationtimelineofourplanspansafiveyear
period,and,contingentuponcommunityinputand
resourceavailability,wouldincludethefollowing
programsandactivities:
CommunityEngagementandVolunteerCoordination
CommunityEngagementCentraltothesuccessofallSeattleTilthprogramsandactivitiesis
oureffectivenessindevelopingstrongcommunitypartnershipandinengagingandworking
closelywithcommunityresidentsandstakeholders.SeattleTilthscommunityengagement
activitieswillbeespeciallyimportantaswedevelopprogrammingatMcAuliffePark,inthat

severalyearshavetranspiredsincetheMasterPlanwasdrafted,and,assuch,community
needsandinterestsmayhavechangedorrefined.Forthisreason,communityengagement
wouldbeamongtheveryfirstactivitieswepursueindevelopingandimplementingoursite
planforthepark.Inparticular,ourMcAuliffeParkfarmstaffwillcreateformalandinformal
mechanismsforcommunitydiscussionsandinputinhelpingtoshapethespecific
implementationofourplanfortheFarm.
Amongthecommunitygroupsandstakeholderswithwhomwewillmeetandform
partnershipsinclude:

inputregarding,ourprogrammingandour
overallprogressindevelopingthesite.
ItisimportanttonotethatSeattleTilthis
entirelycommittedtoensuringthatMcAuliffe
Parkremainasafe,accessibleandwelcomingenvironmentforallcommunitymembersto
enjoy.Assuch,onsitegardenswillprovideopportunitiesforneighborsandarearesidentsto
worktogethertoproducefoodforthemselvesandthecommunity.
CommunityVolunteerCoordinationSeattleTilthssuccessatRainierBeachUrbanFarmand
Wetlandsandothersitesrequireastrong,diverseandcommittedcorpsofcommunity
volunteers.Forexample,morethan500peoplevolunteeratRainierBeacheachyearin
virtuallyallaspectsofoperations.Accordingly,atMcAuliffePark,neighborsandcommunity
memberswillplayapivotalroleinbuildingnewgardenspacesandprovidingongoinggarden
maintenanceandrelatedhabitatrestoration.

Wewillimplementavolunteerprogramtoengagearearesidentsinallappropriateaspectsof
theparksoperationandmaintenance.Inparticular,wewillengageneighborhoodand
communitygroups,serviceorganizations,churches,schools,businessesandothersincreatinga
dynamiccorpsofvolunteersatMcAuliffePark.Ourvolunteersreceiveeducationaltrainingand
opportunitiesforengagementandleadership.
Workshops,ClassesandOneToOneGardenEducation,AdviceandSupport
SeattleTilthiswidely
recognizedasanauthorityon
gardeninginthePacific
Northwestandhasprovided
trainingsonafullrangeof
gardeningtopicsforover35
years.Eachyear,morethan
2,000peopleparticipatein
SeattleTilthclasses.Moreover,
some99%ofourparticipants
rateourclassesatexcellent
orgood.Assuchwebring
substantialexperienceand
knowhowtoprovidinggardenworkshops,classesandtrainingsthatcanbuildskillsandhelpP
patchgardenersandothercommunitymemberslearntogardeninamannerthatis
environmentallybeneficialandpersonallyrewarding.
GardenAdviceAndSupportSeattleTilthwilldedicateskilledandexperiencedstaffwhowill
provideexpertgardenadviceandassistanceforPpatchgardenerswhocurrentlygardenat
McAuliffePark,aswellascommunitymemberswhoutilizethepark.Amongourfirstactivities
willbetoconveneinformalgatheringsanddiscussionswithPpatchgardenerstobetter
understandtheirinterestsandgoals,theiraspirationsforprogrammingatMcAuliffePark,and
tohearhowSeattleTilthcanbestsupportandsustaintheirefforts.Inputfromtheseinformal
meetingsanddiscussions,combinedwithinputfromcommunitystakeholders,willformthe
basisforstructuringgardenadviceandsupportprogramming.Accordingly,oursitebasedstaff
wouldestablisharegularscheduleforgardenadviceandsupportinordertoensureaccessfor
Ppatchgardenersandothercommunitymembers.
GardenWorkshopsWewouldseektosupplementthegardenadviceandsupporteffortwith
trainingsandworkshopsthatcouldincludethefollowingtopics:

MasterRecyclerComposterEastsideofferingcomprehensivetrainingthateducates
communitymembersaboutcomposting,soilbuilding,integratedpestmanagementand
recycling.SeattleTilthgraduated36Eastsideoutreachvolunteersfromthisprogram
overthepastyearandwewouldlookforwardtoexpandingthistoincludeMcAuliffe
Park.
OverwinteringCropsandSeasonExtensionWorkshopshelpinggardenerslearnto
extendtheirgrowingseasonbyplantwintercrops,seedstartingandotherseason
extensiontechniques.
CanningandFoodPreservationprovidinghandsonworkshopstohelpPpatch
gardenersandothercommunitymemberslearnsafeandfunmethodsforcanning,
freezingandotherwisepreservingfruitsandvegetables.
IntegratedPestManagementincludingpracticalstrategiesandnontoxicpest
managementpracticestodealwithpest,weedanddiseasecontrolinvegetablegardens
aswellasornamentallandscapesthroughorganicmethods.
AttractingBeneficialsandCreatingBiodiversityfocusingonhelpinggardenerstoselect
amixofcropsandflowersthatattractinsectsandpollinatorsinordertocreatea
diverse,vibrantandhealthygarden.
ThoughmanyworkshopsandclasseswouldbeprovidedinproximitytothePpatchgarden
area,wewouldplantoutilizethegaragestructureforgardeneducationactivitieswhen
appropriate.

educationcamp,whichengageschildren
ofallagestolearnvariousaspectsof
gardeningandthenaturalenvironment
inafunandsafesetting.
SeattleTilthAdultEducationClassesInadditiontoworkshopsandgardenadvice,Seattle
Tilthplanstooffermultiplesessionclassesthatprovidemoreindeptheducationandskills
trainingonvariousorganicgardeningandfarmingtopics.Duringthefirstyearofoperations,
wewouldconvenemeetingsandlisteningsessionswithPpatchgardeners,neighborhood
groups,communitystakeholders,NourishingNetworksandotherpartnerorganizationsinorder
toidentifyneeds,prioritiesandopportunitiesthatwouldhelpinformaninitialgroupingofclass
offerings.
SeattleTilthhasmorethan35yearsexperienceinteachingcommunitybasedgardeneducation
classes.Thesehandson,feebasedclassesareaffordable,accessibleandtremendously
popular,withmorethan2,000peopletakingpartannuallyatlocationsthroughoutKingCounty.
Andthoughwewillseekinputfromcommunitystakeholdersindesigningourclassofferings,
someexamplesofourexperientialgardeneducationclassesinclude:

IntroductiontoPermacultureteachinggardenerstouseabroader,systemsthinking
approachthatintegrateshumanneedswiththenaturalecosystem.
Ourprogrammingplanistoinitiateadulteducationclassesinyeartwowitharelativelymodest
groupingofclassesandtosubsequentlyexpandthisofferinginyearsthreethroughfive,based
uponclassevaluations,communityinterestandavailabilityofresources.
GardenDevelopmentandFoodProduction
OneofthemostexcitingaspectsrelatedtoprogrammingatMcAuliffeParkistheavailabilityof
landandtheopportunitiestocreateanintegratedgroupingofnewgardensforlearning,
demonstrationandhealthyfoodproduction.Towardsthisend,SeattleTilthseekstobuild
uponoursuccessfulexperienceatRainierBeachUrbanFarmandWetlandsincreatingvibrant
learningandproductiongardensthatincludethefullcycleoffarmandgardeningactivities.In
particular,weproposetocreatethreegardenspaces,asfollows:
ChildrensLearningGardenOurplanproposesasmallchildrensgardenthatcould
includeannualandperennialvegetables,asensorygarden,ananimaltrailandwildlife
path,acontainergardendemonstration,wormbins,compostareaandanearbyplay

andpicnicarea.Thechildrensgardencouldpotentiallyprovideafunandengaging
spaceforfieldtrips,childrensclasses,summergardenandfarmcamps,familygarden
programmingandmore.
CommunityLearningandDemonstrationGardenModeledafterSeattleTilths35year
oldLearningGardenatGoodShepherdCenterinWallingford,thecommunitylearning
anddemonstrationgardenwouldincludeyearroundorganicvegetablegardening,
droughttolerantanddiseaseresistantornamentalplantings,permaculturedesign,rain
waterharvesting,yardwasteandfoodwastecomposting,soilbuildingtechniques,
PacificNorthwestnativeplants,foodbearing
perennials,andaraingardens.Thisgardenwould
serveastheprimarysiteforadulteducation
classes,workshopsandinformaltrainings.
ProductionFarmandPotentialSeattleYouth
GardenWorksSiteSeattleTilthwilldrawuponour
substantialexperienceincreatingandoperating
productionfarmsthroughoutKingCountyincluding
the39acreRedBarnRanchinAuburn,Washington.
Theproductionfarmisplannedasaonetotwo
acrefarmthatgeneratesseveralthousandpounds
oforganicproduce,muchofwhichwouldbesoldat
thedowntownKirklandfarmersmarketsandanon
sitemarketstand.Producecouldalsobesold
throughtheSeattleTilthurbanfoodhub,which
aggregatesandsellsorganicproducetolocal
grocers,restaurantsandothermarketsandthrough
theGoodFoodBagprogram.Aportionofthe
producegrownonsitecouldalsobedirectedto
Hopelinksfoodandnutritionprograms,aswellas
communitymealandnutritionprogramsatthe
KirklandSeniorCenterandotherlocations.
Ourplanfortheproductionfarmincludesa
potentialprogramsiteforanexpandedSeattle
YouthGardenWorksprogram,therebyprovidingan
employmentandlifeskillstrainingprogramforteens
andyoungadultsinKirklandandsurrounding
communities.

Theproductionfarmwouldalsoprovideatremendousservicelearningandcommunity
volunteeropportunityforcommunitymembers,workplaces,churches,service
organizationsandothers.
OtherFarmandGardenActivitiesWelookforwardtothepossibilityofbuildingout
anddevelopingseveralotherfarmandgardenelementswhichwouldcreatearichand
satisfyingexperienceforMcAuliffeParkparticipants.Someexamplesoftheseelements
couldinclude:
UrbanLivestockdemonstrationarea
includingchickencoopsandbeehives
whicheducatethepublicabouthowto
careforchickensandbeesinaresidential
setting.Thiswouldbuilduponour
partnershipswithlocal4Hclubs,Puget
SoundBeekeepersSocietyandothers.
InternshipPrograminwhich
undergraduateandgraduatestudentsfrom
localcommunitycollegesanduniversities
cangainfieldexperienceandconduct
research.Towardsthisend,SeattleTilth
wouldbuilduponandexpandourcurrent
partnershipswithmanylocalcollegesand
universities.
Aswithotherelementsofourprogramming,wewillworkwiththeCityofKirkland,community
stakeholdersandpartnersingainingtheirideasandinputandtosecuretheirparticipationand
supportfornewgardens.Actualdevelopmentforthesenewgardens,includingsequenceand
timing,wouldbealignedwithcommunityinterestaswellasavailabilityofresources.
Additionally,ourgardendevelopmentplanincludesacriticalroleforcommunityvolunteers,
workinginconjunctionwithSeattleTilthstaff,inclearing,diggingandpreparingthesitefor
newgardens.ItisalsoimportanttonotethatSeattleTilthhasanexcellentrelationshipwith
CedarGroveorganiccompostinsecuringrich,healthysoilforthesenewgardensites.
NutritionClassesandActivities
SeattleTilthsdevelopmentplanforprogrammingatMcAuliffeParkincludesapotentialsitefor
nutritioneducationsiteforourCommunityKitchensNorthwestprogram.CommunityKitchens

Finally,weseektocreatenewprogrammingandimprovementsthathelptorealizethe
communitysvisionforMcAuliffePark.Insodoing,weseektoenrichandexpandtheparks
manyofferingsandtocreateanurbanfarmandenvironmentallearningcenterthatwould
makeMcAuliffeParkaregionalmodelforadynamicandinnovativepublicspace.

fundingforstaffingforMcAuliffePark.
Wewillseektobuilduponexisting
fundingrelationships,and,where
possible,developnewrelationships
withfoundations,corporationsandindividualdonorswithaparticularfocusonfunders
witharegional,orEastsideperspective.Wewillalsoexplorepossibilitiesforfunding
amonggovernmentalpartnersincludingKingCounty,StateofWashingtonandfederal
UnitedStatesDepartmentofAgricultureprogramssuchastheCommunityFood
Projectsgrant.
InkindandcommunityvolunteeropportunitiesAswithothersimilarefforts,Seattle
Tilthwillrelyheavilyuponcommunityvolunteersandinkindsupportforbuildingout
newgardenareasandconstructingcisterns,marketstand,wash/packstationandother
informalstructures.Specifically,wewillbuilduponexistingrelationshipswith
communitycolleges,theUniversityofWashingtonsSchoolofArchitectureandUrban
Planning,localdesignfirmsandotherstorecruitinternsandvolunteersfordesignand
construction,whilerecruitingvolunteersfromtheKirklandcommunityandmobilizing
workpartiesfromamongourmanyvolunteersandmembershipbaseforclearingland

andpreparingnewgardenbeds.WewillalsoworkwithCedarGroveandother
corporatepartnerstosecurerich,healthycompostandsoilfornewgardens.
CreationofaKirklandParksFoundationWeareespeciallyexcitedattheprospectofa
newlyemergingKirklandParksFoundationthatcouldserveasamechanismforraising
privatefundstohelpsupportParksprioritiesandneeds,potentiallyincludingMcAuliffe
Park.TheKirklandParksFoundationeffort,ledbyaSeattleTilthBoardmemberand
otherKirklandresidents,iscurrentlyintheformativestagesamongcivicandcommunity
leaders,andispotentiallyslatedtolaunchinmid2014.
AsimilarpartnershipbetweentheSeattleparksFoundationandSeattleTilthhasproven
tobetremendouslyeffectiveingeneratingadditionalprivateandpublicsupportfor
$2.4millioninparkimprovementsatRainierBeachUrbanFarmandWetlands.
ItisimportanttonotethatourimplementationtimelineforsiteimprovementsatMcAuliffe
Parkwillbecontingentupontheavailabilityoffundingaswellastheinkindandvolunteer
resourcesoutlinedabove.
A.SeattleTilthsFundingPlanfortheOperationofMcAuliffePark
OperationsatMcAuliffePark,aswithallotherSeattleTilthprograms,willbefundedand
supportedinthefollowingways:

servicecontractstosupportprogrammingat
McAuliffePark.

involvementamongcommunityvolunteersisa

drivingelementofallSeattleTilthprogramming,andwillbecriticaltotheoperationsat
McAuliffePark.Similarly,sustainedinvolvementamongcorporateandbusiness
partnersforitemssuchassoil,toolsandotheroperationalsupport,willhelptoaddress
amodest,thoughimportant,portionofouroperationalneeds.
PhilanthropicSupportAllprogramoperationsrely,tosomedegree,uponcommunity
donations,foundationandcorporatesupport.Towardsthisend,SeattleTilthcurrently
generateswellover$1millionannuallythroughsuchphilanthropicefforts,uponwhich
wewouldseektoexpandthroughnewpartnershipsandconnectionsrelatedtoour
workatMcAuliffePark.
Wedonot,atthistime,anticipatesecuringfinancingforoursitedevelopmenteffortsat
McAuliffePark.
B.TimingandContingenciesofourFundingPlan
SeattleTilthsintentistoinitiatecoreprogrammingandtomakeTierOnesiteimprovements
withinafiveyeartimeframe.Morespecifically,ourimplementationtimelineforMcAuliffePark
issimilartoourtimelineforRainierBeachUrbanFarm,PickeringGardenandotherSeattle
Tilthfarmsandgardensinthatwewillapproachimplementationinameasured,incremental
manner.Ourimplementationtimelineislargelycontingentuponcommunityneeds,volunteer
andinkindinvolvement,partnershipsand
fundingavailability.
Thismeasuredapproachtodeveloping
McAuliffeParkmakesitpossibleforSeattle
Tilthtoinitiatecoreprogrammingwhile
providinganopportunitytobetter
understandcommunityneedsandpriorities,
buildcommunitysupportandparticipation,
establishnewpartnerships,andidentifyand
pursueemergingfundingopportunities.
Itshouldbenotedthatinusingthis
approach,SeattleTilthhasexperiencedtremendoussuccessinfullyimplementingabroad
rangeofprogramsandaccomplishingambitiouscapitalimprovementsatRainierBeachUrban
FarmandWetlands.AtRainierBeach,fundingopportunitiesthatwereinitiallyunknownat
projectconception,developedandtookshapeasweworkedwithneighbors,community
stakeholdersandpartnerorganizationstoidentify,prioritizeandimplementsiteimprovements.

nonprofitorganizationsinthataportionofourannualbudgetisgeneratedthroughfeebased
classes,workshopsandsummercamps,aswellasbooksales,salesofcurriculumandproduce
sales.WerecognizethatSeattleTilthhasapositive,respectedandtrustedbrandasan
authoritativeregionalresourcethatresonateswithpeoplethroughoutourcommunity.And
whilewecannotcommittogeneratingrevenuefortheCityofKirkland,weareamenableto
workingwithCityofKirklandofficialsinexploringmutuallybeneficialrevenuegenerating
