Next meeting in Feb.

Date TBA

Also on Holy Tuesday, March 31st, the Chrism Mass is celebrated at the Cathedral in Wichita. It is
a mass where the three Holy Oils Oil of the Catechumenate, Oil of Chrism, and Oil of the Sick are blessed by the bishop with all the priests of the diocese. The Oils of Chrism and
Catechumenate are used for anointing during the celebration of the sacrament of Baptism and
Confirmation, and the Chrism during ordination. We thank our parishioners who volunteered to
represent our parishes in Girard and Arma and will come with me to the Cathedral for that mass
and to pick up our holy oils for the parishes: Butch and Mary Reif and their children Macy and
Carly. Also during this mass, we priests will renew our priestly promises in the presence of the
bishop and the congregation, the promises we made during our ordination. This serves to
strengthen our commitment to the priestly life and provides inspiration in the exercise of all the
priestly duties. So please include me and all the priests in your prayers especially on this day!

Welcome to our Catholic Community Bradey Davied Strukel, son of Eric Strukel and Paige
Davied, who was baptized last Sunday at Saint Michael. Please include Bradey and his parents in
your prayers.

!St. Ann Altar Society

Thanks be to God and Praise be the Lord for this Holy Week! As the name suggests, this week is
holy as it commemorates the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, His
suffering and death, and His resurrection. But it is also holy as it provides us an opportunity to grow
in holiness and renew our baptismal commitment come Easter Sunday! On this Palm Sunday, also
called Passion Sunday, we celebrate Our Lord's triumphant entrance into Jerusalem where he was
welcomed by crowds worshiping him and laying down palm leaves before him. It also marks the
beginning of Holy Week. Then we will celebrate the Easter Triduum beginning with the Mass of
the Lords Supper on Holy Thursday and the vigil that follows with the Holy Eucharist. It marks
the end of the forty days of Lent and the beginning of the three-day celebration of the death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ - Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday. The
Fathers of the Second Vatican Council reminded us of the extraordinary significance of the
Triduum: "Christ redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God principally through his paschal
mystery: dying he destroyed our death and rising he restored our life. Therefore the Easter
Triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is the culmination of the entire liturgical
year." (General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, # 18) These last Forty Days were
a time of preparation for these great Three days, which is what Triduum means. These three days
lead us to an empty tomb and an Octave, eight days, of celebrating the Resurrection. They also
introduce an entire liturgical season, the Easter Season, which lasts for Fifty days until Pentecost.

an Easter Egg Hunt for our kids both in Girard and Arma right after the 8AM and 10AM masses.
Thank you to our coordinators and catechists!

God bless you all! Fr. Roger

Spaghetti Feed Update & Thanks!

The spaghetti feed was a great success! Thanks to everyone that

participated in so many ways sold and bought dinner and drawing
tickets, made a bid in the silent auction, made delicious desserts, and/
or helped out before, during, and after the event. We are very
fortunate to have great support from our parishioners, local
community members, and businesses. We want to recognize a few
people that were instrumental in making this event happen. 1) The
Planning Committee for attending meetings, coordinating specific
areas, and giving us assistance and advice to make this event a success
Karen Pryer, Joe Polhlopek, Dustin Ashmore, Joan Barbieri, Joan
Black, Margaret Ann Setina, and Mary Ann Boyd, 2) A special thank
you to Ron and Janet Pommier and all of the sauce and meatball
makers, Joan Barbieri for the green beans, Donna Bertoncino &
Mary Ann Boyd for the salad, and all of you wonderful kitchen
workers 3) Karen Zerngast, Frank & Barbara Esposito, and Ethan
Edwards for the spaghetti noodles and meat for the meatballs. 4)
Wally Rons for bagging all of the ice, 5) and all of the servers and
workers who volunteered. Lindsay and I want to thank you for
helping the event run so smoothly. Without all of you this would not
have been such a successful event. We hope everyone had as much
fun and fellowship as we did. It is great to get to socialize with
members of our parish family. We are truly blessed to be members
of the St. Joseph Parish, and we are truly blessed to have Father
Roger leading and guiding us.

!Wanted: CYM Youth for Prayer & Action Mission Trip

June 14-19 in McPherson, KS. Prayer and Action is a program

sponsored by the Office of Faith Formation for the Catholic Diocese
of Wichita. It is designed to provide a low-cost opportunity for
participants to experience a mission week. Prayer & Action combines
elements of simple community living with a daily ritual of prayer,
inspiring talks, fun activities and meaningful service to those in need.
Prayer and Action takes place over five days in parishes within the
diocese. Participants arrive on Sunday evening and stay until Friday
morning. Throughout the week, participants paint, clean, do yard
work, and perform other meaningful tasks for the poor, disabled, and
elderly. Participants spend the week in an atmosphere that is
free of distractions in order to foster their faith, inspire
charity, and lead them closer to Christ. We have taken youth
on this trip for the last 3 years. It is a life changing experience!
Please call Carrie Smith at 724-6684 or 238-0728 if you would like
your child to be involved in the mission trip this year. It is so
important to foster service in our youth.

!WHO WAS SIMON OF CYRENE? by Marcel Normand

It was early April, the sun was unseasonably hot, and Simon and
his patient mule were covered with perspiration. The mule was
carrying a heavy burden, but they were almost at the entrance into
Jerusalem. He would stop at the market inn and he would get water
for himself and his mule. Suddenly he saw a strange procession by
the city gate led by a Roman centurion on a horse with a small crowd
following behind. As they got closer, he saw a poor fellow bent low
under the weight of a huge beam. On his head was a crown of
thornsthat didnt make sense to Simon! He must be a criminal of
some sort. Simon stopped his mule and pulled to the side of the road
to watch the scene. Simon knew what the mans fate would be.
Suddenly, the man fell to the ground facedown in the dust. The
soldiers began to lash his back with their whips. One of the soldiers
approached the centurion and began to talk. The centurion looked
around at the crowd, his eyes fell on Simon standing there with his
mule loaded with market produce. Before he knew what was
happening, Simon was seized by two soldiers. He shouted to be left
to attend to his business, but they didnt listen. To be continued
