Personal Installation of Hummingbird Exceed
The two Hummingbird Products called Exceed and the Connectivity Secure Shell go
hand in hand. If you have completed the installation of Exceed, skip this section and
proceed to the section Personal Installation of Hummingbird Exceed 2007
Connectivity Secure Shell. Although this document is for the installation of the
Connectivity Secure Shell, a brief description of the Exceed installation is given here
for the benefit of those who have not installed Exceed previously.
When the UTK CD labeled Hummingbird Exceed 2007 for Windows Includes Install
Code is opened, you will see an application called Setup .exe and a file called key code
for Exceed 2007.doc. Double-click the Setup.exe application to install Exceed. Follow
the instructions and take the defaults (click NEXT) whenever possible. The Exceed
2007 Hummingbird Setup Wizard works much like the detailed instructions below for
the installation of the Connectivity Secure Shell. When prompted to Enter a valid
license key for Exceed 2007, using Word, open the file key code for Exceed 2007.doc
located on the CD. Cut and paste (use CTRL+V) the license numbers in the License Key
box. When prompted to Select the install options you will need, check the Local
Cache option if you want the installation files copied to your PC. Otherwise, you might
be prompted to insert the original CD when doing certain updates at a later time. Leave
the Update option unchecked. You should check the Tuning option. The tuning takes a
few moments and can be done later but it is an important option that should not be
neglected and it is not described elsewhere in this document. For update instructions, see
How to update Hummingbird Exceed and Connectivity Secure Shell products below.
If you have purchased the Exceed 3D add-on, in addition to the installations of Exceed
2007 and the Connectivity Secure Shell products, you will also install the Exceed 3D
product. The CD labeled Hummingbird Exceed 3D Version 2007 Windows Includes
Install Code includes the application Exceed 3D 2007 and the license file key code for
Exceed 3D 2007.doc. When prompted to Enter a valid license key for Exceed 2007,
using Word, open the file key code for Exceed 3D 2007.doc located on the CD. Cut and
paste (use CTRL+V) the license numbers in the License Key box.
NETID and password, select Host Explorer & Exceed Patches to download the most
recent patches for those products.
Exceed and Firewalls
In general, if the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) is enabled, it will block all
incoming traffic to your PC. Windows XP SP2 has the firewall setting enabled by default
so that it blocks all connections to your computer. In order to make the Hummingbird
Connectivity Secure Shell session work, you need to either disable the firewall (not
recommended) or add the ports that you require to use to the list of exceptions.
When you try to bring up an X application on Windows XP SP2 using Xstart with start
method Secure Shell, you will get the following message:
Do you want to keep blocking this program?
Your options are: Keep Blocking, Unblock or Ask Me Later.
To display on your screen, you need to select the Unblock option. This will add the
Xserver for Win32 port to the exception list and will allow you to run X applications.
You can find out if the Xserver for Win32 port has been added to the exception list by
doing the following:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
