What does

Galatians 6:8 Say?

Lets read it together.

For he who sows to his _________ will of the flesh reap

corruption, but he who sows to the _________
will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

SPIRIT

Why does GOD want us to walk in the

?
Because He wants us to have eternity with Him in
heaven. He wants us to have a right relationship
with Him. He wants to have fellowship with us right
now, before we go to heaven.

Romans 8:14-17 tells us

GOD wants to have a relationship with us as our

father. He adopts us and then wants us to call Him Abba, Father.

The word Abba is the Hebrew word for Father. It was used as a term of
endearment, rather like our word daddy.
Our heavenly
father doesnt
want a formal
relationship with
His kids. He wants
them to feel
close to Him and
comfortable with
Him. If we have
given our lives
to the Lord, GOD
has adopted us
as His children
and we now are
heirs of GOD! And
He likes us to call
Him daddy.
We are now His children and He wants a close relationship with us. That
relationship is discovered on a
level. His
communes
with our
and lets us know that we are His.This is almost too wonderful
to comprehend.

SPIRIT

Some of you have already been adopted into GODs big family.
This is probably a good time to ask this question:

Refer to page 25 for

more information.

How Can I Become A Part

of

Gods Family?

Now, lets consider the word CORRUPTION which is in our verse in this study.
We read the flesh reaps CORRUPTION. What is CORRUPTION? We become a
slave to what we sow.
Lets look at 2 Peter 2:19 together

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of

______________; for by whom a person is overcome,
by him also he is brought into ______________.
Bondage is whatever it
control over our lives. We

is that takes
are in bondage
to it.

Christians

As
, we are slaves to Jesus Christ.
Weve accepted Him as our Lord and Master. We
have willingly submitted ourselves to Him. And
weve discovered that to be a slave of Jesus Christ
is much better than to be a slave of Satan or to be
a slave to our own flesh.
In becoming a slave to Jesus, we are free. We have
a glorious freedom in Jesus because we are no
longer forced by our lusts to do those things that
were destroying us!

Lets read Romans 8:5-11 together

For those who live according to the _________ set their minds on the things of
the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the __________.
For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of
God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But
you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now
if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the
body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the

What is the difference between practicing

(living in) sin and those times when we do sin?
When we practice sin, we dont care what GOD
thinks about what were doing.Whereas, when
we sin and realize it was wrong, we ask for
GODs forgiveness and receive it. (1 John 1:9) We
dont want to keep sinning. We ask GOD for help.

What does it mean,

Your Word I have hidden in my heart?

Maybe, if you are having a
problem with a sin in your life, you
are overlooking what Psalm 119:9
tells us we need to be doing.

So what happens when

Gods Word is hidden in my heart?

Psalm 40:8 Says

I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.

In order for us to keep from living in sin, its important to be

reading

, listening

& responding

to Gods Word!

In other words, HAVING FELLOWSHIP WITH THE LORD.

So how do we do that?
We know what reading the Bible means.
Its important for us to read GODs Word, the Bible.
Its also important for us to listen to the Bible being taught.
But, what about responding to GODs Word?

HOW DO WE DO THAT

?!!

What does it mean to respond? Respond means to send back.

So how DO we respond to what GOD says in His Word? Its like talking to a friend.
They say something and then we say something back to them in response
to what they said. So, when we read the Bible, GOD is telling us something He
wants us to know and we can respond back to Him in prayer.
L

K up, read, & fill in the blanks of

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your ________, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall __________ your paths.
You might respond,
Lord, help me to trust and depend on you more
and not to think I have all the answers. Help me
to talk to you about everything in my life.
Thank you that you will show me the right
ways to go and the right things to do.
Thats responding to GOd and what
He said in His Word, the Bible.
You can respond back to GOd in prayer every time you read the Bible.
That way you and GOd are having a TWO-WAY conversation! Dont forget!
GOd WANTS to have fellowship with you!

1 Corinthians 1:9 says

God is faithful, by whom you were called into
the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now, lets talk about

PURE!

means uncontaminated!
PURE means not mixed with anything else;
not mixed with sin.
To be PURE in our relationship with
God means we keep a short account
with Him (1 John 1:9). We confess our
sin and He forgives us.

PURE!

This can mean we meditate on things no one can find fault in.
What does

1 John 3:3 tell us about keeping our life pure?

And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself,

just as He is _________.
What does in this hope mean?
ANSWER: LOOKING FOR HIS RETURN.

And that answer is a great

motivation to keep us pure.

Man is basically a

Now, our mind is either going to be controlled by FLESHLY desires, or

the result will be that we will have a carnal mind.

It is so important to WALK IN THE SPIRIT.

Lets look at some verses that relate to this.
What do these

verses say about

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT?

Romans 8:14

For as many as are led by the Spirit

of God, these are sons of God.
When we WALK IN THE SPIRIT and
the SPIRIT leads us, we can
know we are sons of GOD.

Romans 8:16

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
It is so great to know that we are
children of GOD by the SPIRIT of GOD!

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our

weaknesses. For we do not know what we
How awesome! When we
should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit dont know how to pray about

something, the SPIRIT

knows and prays for us!
Look at this promise for those who love GOD:

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for

good to those who love God, to those who are
the called according to His purpose.
This does not mean that all things will be
good in our lives. Bad things can happen.
But, what it does mean is that, when bad
things happen, GOD will cause it to work
out for good for those who love GOD.
40

Copyright a 2011 CalvaryCurriculum.com

Learning GODs word helps us WALK IN THE

SPIRIT. It helps us to go GODs way instead
of our own way.

So, whats the key to

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT?

Luke 11:5-13 says
And He said to them, Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to
him, Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have
nothing to set before him; and he will answer from within and say, Do not trouble me; the door is
now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you? I say to you, though
he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise
and give him as many as he needs. So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you
will find; knock, and it will be opened to you...
Lets stop and consider something
before we finish this Scripture.
We need to know that the words ASK, SEEK, & KNOCK
in the ORIGINAL LANGUAGE are present tense words.
What that means is:
KEEP asking, KEEP seeking, KEEP knocking.
Now lets finish the rest of the Scripture.
...For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread
from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks
for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an
egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, (compared to God)
know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
The key to WALKING IN THE SPIRIT is to ask.
To KEEP asking each day, throughout the day,
to KEEP seeking, to KEEP knocking.
Then we will be given GODs grace for
daily living, we will find His mercies new
every morning, and we will receive
GODs direction and strength to do
what GOD wants us to do.
41

Our heavenly Father desires that

we be filled with His SPIRIT.

Practice

Philippians 4:8 together!

Among the things we are to meditate

on is whatever things that are

LOVELY

Now,
lets talk about

LOVELY

LOVELY is a word that was more often used

many years ago, so we dont really understand
its full meaning. LOVELY can also be termed
very admirable or an inner beauty.
There are people and there are things that may not be very beautiful
to behold on the outside, but we admire them very much because
of their inner beauty that they have.

God is very much concerned with inner loveliness.

In fact, in 1 Samuel 16:7 He said,

But the LORD said to Samuel, Do not

look at his appearance or at his
physical stature, because I have
refused him. For the LORD does not
see as man sees; for man looks at the
outward appearance, but the LORD
looks at the heart.
Truly, a lovely or admirable person is one that lives
their life in a way that is pleasing to GOD.
We admire these kinds of people for
the good things that come out of their
lives as they ABIDE in the Lord.

Isnt that the way we want to live?

42

Copyright a 2011 CalvaryCurriculum.com

As we have been practicing our memory verse

(Philippians 4:8) this week, some of us have already
memorized it. Thats GREAT!
And this verse can really help us to sow good
things in our lives and to be pleasing to the Lord.

In fact, we can use Philippians 4:8

as a THOUGHT LIFE checklist.
Whatever we think about
Is it TRUE ?
we can ask ourselves:
Is it HONEST ?
Is it JUST (is it right before the Lord) ?
Is it PURE (wholesome) ?
Is it LOVELY (admirable) ?
Does it have a GOOD REPORT
(a good reputation. Does it build us up) ?
Is it VIRTUOUS (upright and righteous) ?
Is it PRAISEWORTHY
(is it worth sharing with others) ?

Think on these things.

When we think about good things, that
are lovely and admirable, and refuse to
think about bad things, then we keep on
sowing good things in our lives! That is
such an awesome thing!

k up Galatians 6:9-10, fill in the Blanks and then Read it together

And let us not grow _________ while doing good, for in due season we shall
________ if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do
good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
(Due season means: Gods timing)

What are the things that cause us to grow weary?

Here are a few examples:

(1) The

world does things one way and

we get tired of doing it a different way.

(2) When

people act like its not

important to do good, we begin
to think that maybe it really
doesnt matter after all.

(3) When

we make plans to do good things,

but then people tell us we shouldnt do it
or they make fun of us or discourage us
from doing them.

If you have ever planted something in your

back yard, its similar to what a farmer does.
A farmer plants his crop and then has to wait
for weeks,
and sometimes
months,
waiting for the
harvest,
waiting for the
plants
to grow.
What if we got tired of waiting or the
farmer got tired of waiting for the
harvest, and gave up on the field? He
stopped watering, stopped fertilizing,
and stopped tending to the field.

What would happen? The plants

would stop growing & eventually die.

Just as there is physical sowing and reaping (planting seeds and then
eventually harvesting the crop) there is SPIRITUAL sowing and reaping.

sowing can take time. Sometimes we sow good

What can we sow and see the result right away?

(1) Doing

something kind for someone and they are thankful.

CAN YOU THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE?

(3) ____________________________________________
(2)

Other times we sow and it takes a long time to

see the harvest come up. What good things can
we sow that might take a long time to harvest?
It is also possible to sow bad things. If a weed

Bad things can be sown in

Just like weed seeds produce (grow) weeds,

the weeds drop their seeds in the ground
and grow more weeds! So the
more bad things that are sown
in our lives, the more bad things
will grow and be in our lives!

We dont want that to happen!

By sowing bad things

in our lives we start
thinking bad and acting
bad. But if we sow good
things in our lives, good
things that are pleasing
to the Lord will grow in
our lives.

Waiting can be hard! Lets L K at what Isaiah
has to say about those who are willing to wait.

Isaiah 40:30-31
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men
shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the ___________ shall

They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
What is the promise for
those who wait on the Lord?

SPIRIT

SPIRIT

Have you ever felt WEARY

about doing good?
We can still continue well-doing in spite of weariness.
How we feel can change and does change. What is
important is that we do not cease in doing well.

One reason for being WEARY is that we have

our eyes on our problems and not on the Lord.
One of the answers to not becoming
WEARY is to spend time with the Lord, to
respond to what GOD says in His word.
Sometimes we forget about
GOD and we need to get
back in touch with Him.
We can become WEARY
in strength because we
havent given our bodies
nourishing food. We can
also become WEARY if
we neglect feeding our
by not meeting
with GOD through His Word.

SPIRIT

What is the promise about

not growing WEARY and
not losing heart?
The promise is in due season we shall reap if
we do not lose heart. Isnt that wonderful?
We need to understand that
even though the harvest
is delayed, it will surely be
reaped in due season.

k up and Read Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your _________, And lean not on your
own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Practice Galatians 6:9-10 together

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those
who are of the household of faith.
What does the word OPPORTUNITY in this verse mean?
OPPORTUNITY means...
l Something possible to do
A favorable time to do somehting
A chance to do something

l
l

Galatians 6:10 encourages us

to do good to all, especially
to those who have faith in
Jesus Christ .
Think about that...
How often do we think about doing good to others?
We like doing good to ourselves, but what about
to other people? Thats something to think about.

What are some things we can do for others

that would be DOING GOOD to them?
How can I... Help someone in need?
How can I... Be kind to someone?
How can I... Think about others more than myself?

What do you feel like when someone takes the

Share how it makes you feel.

To be merciful
To be kind and forgiving

When we have the opportunity to do good to people,

we want to do justly and to show mercy to them.
How about what we are told in the last part of verse 10

...especially to those who are of the household of faith.

This is talking about those whom GOD has admitted
into His family. This means GOD wants us to
DO GOOD to those who love Him.
Again, how should we treat those who call themselves a part of Gods family (Christians)?

k at some scriptures that deal with doing good.

1 Timothy 6:18
Let them do ________, that they be rich in
good works, ready to give, willing to share.

Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by ________,
but overcome evil with good.
Jesus is our great example
of doing good.

Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of

all who were oppressed by the

As you spend time with GOD, you too will

receive His power to do good to others.
Dont you want to be someone that does

is what Jesus wants for your life.
