Ayieldlineapproachisdescribedhere,inwhichthefinalresultisaseriesofcurvescovering
averyhighpercentageofrestrainedbeamtocolumnwebconnectionsinvolvinghotrolled
shapes.Thecurvesrelatebeammomentstocolumnwebthicknessforaseriesofbeam
sizesandforW14columnswithyieldstrengthsof36and50ksi.Forspecialcasesnot
coveredbythesecurves,butforwhichtheyieldlinepatternassumedisvalid,direct
solutionsmaybedevelopedbyuseoftheformulasusedtoconstructthesecurves.The
assumptionsusedbytheauthorsarelisted.Detailsaregivenoftheyieldlineanalysisand
theinternalworksummary.Adesignexampleisdescribed.
