Opportunities to Teach: Information Afternoon

**Calling all PhD Students**


Teaching in your own department helps you gain valuable experience for an academic
career, but have you thought about engaging in teaching opportunities outside your
discipline and therefore further enhancing your employability?
The Learning Enhancement Team provides various paid opportunities for PGWTs to engage
in academic skills teaching. These opportunities include:

Realising Opportunities: working one-to-one with A Level students supporting them
in writing an Academic Assignment (Open for application: 13th April)
Next Step York: working one-to-one with A Level students supporting them in
writing an Academic Assignment (Open for application: 13th April)
Turnitin: presenting workshops on using Turnitin to develop students academic
writing (Open for application: 20th April)
Skills for Schools and Colleges: presenting interactive skills workshops to sixth-form
and college students who visit the university (Open for application: 20th April)
Maths Skills Centre: working one-to-one with students needing assistance with
maths and statistics (Open for application September/October; January/February)
Writing Centre providing one-to-one guidance to students using the Writing
Centre drop-in service (Open for application: end June/beginning of July)
To find out more, you are invited to drop-in to an open afternoon where you can talk to
the team and speak to PGWTs who have worked with us on these opportunities.

* Please note: These opportunities are open to PhD students only. All opportunities require PGWTs to
have at least completed the Introduction to Learning and Teaching OR the Postgraduates Who Teach
Residential course offered by the Researcher Development Team. International postgraduates must also
have IELTS 7.0. All applications must be approved by your supervisor.
