formurderingandblowingupmodelandsocialiteAltantuyaShaariibuu,28,in2006.
HefledMalaysiabeforetheconvictionand,whenhewasdetainedinBrisbaneonTuesdayforavisa
violation,hiscrimebecameAustraliasproblem.
UnderAustralianlaw,immigrationofficialscannotextraditeapersonwhocouldfacecapitalpunishment.
ForeignMinisterJulieBishophasdeclinedtocommentbutexpertssayAustraliacanrefuseextradition
untilMalaysiagivesassurancesthatSirulwillnotbesentencedtodeath.

governmentofficialsandspecificallyrelatedtoheryearlongaffairwithAbdulRazakBaginda,afriendof
MalaysianPrimeMinisterNajibRazak.Thepairsrelationshipdidnotendamicably.
AltantuyahadhelpedAbdulRazakbrokeradealthatwouldallowMalaysiatopurchasesubmarinesfrom
theFrench.Buteverythingwentwrongwhenshestartedtoaskformoney.
