1. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF.

Ive always been fascinated with IT. Ive always excelled in my computer classes that the
summer after I graduated from high school, my teacher hired me to be his assistant instructor
of basic computer literacy training under the Alternative Learning System.
After that, Ive been a student assistant for the most part of my college years at UP Visayas. I
was assigned at the accounting office where I performed quite a number of administrative
duties. From the experience, I learned how to manage my time very well and also I had a
glimpse of how after college would be like.
After college, I first worked in SM City Iloilo as a CSA. One of the difficult tasks I was handling
the bills payment collection. As expected, it involves handling huge amounts of money. It was
an error-prone job and even the slightest mistake can cost you your paycheck and even your
job. All in all, my previous work experiences made me conscious with details and I make sure
to thoroughly check everything that I work on. It also helped developed my patience.
2. DESCRIBE YOURSELF.
I am a humble person personally and professionally. I always tell myself that no matter how
far I reach in life, I believe that I can still outdo what Ive previously done. I am thorough and
detail-oriented as I always want to have the best that I can in every tasks given to me. I rarely
if never procrastinate and risk failing to finish the job on time. I dont like to be a failure.
Having graduated from one of the top universities in the country, people expect great things
from me. It can sometimes be a very difficult and exhausting to uphold. But it is what it is. I
use that to motivate me and also put value in my work always because landing a good job
was never easy. It may even be a once in a lifetime opportunity I dont want to have regrets if
I lose it at the end just because I was feeling lazy for a time.
3. WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU?
Im sure if you ask my previous supervisor, he would tell you that Im very professional, that I
submit good reports before deadline hits. He would tell you how dedicated I was at my job. I
was never reluctant to put up time to finish tasks. I am detail-oriented and very thorough and
he has always trusted me to lead my co-workers and make the right decisions when hes not
around. Also, Im good at calculating numbers and interpreting results and figures. Ill enjoy
working with them.
4. WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN WORKING FOR BIR?
There are many reasons why I want to work for BIR. One is because this is a world of taxationand taxation involves math and calculations. I may not be a Math geek but I love the subject
ever since. Working for the bureau will always be a challenge and a joy for me to work.
Another and the major reason is because I believe in the Bureaus mission to collect taxes
for nation building through excellent, efficient and transparent services, just and fair
enforcement of tax laws, uplifting the life of every Filipino. Yes, having my salary cut down by
taxes is a bit painful, but Ive already accepted that thats how it would and should always be.
Ive realized that indeed, the government will cease to exist since taxes is its life blood and
that the governments ability to serve its people depends upon the taxes that are collected. In
light with recent news about a survey made by Bloomberg economists, Philippines ranked as
the worlds second fastest growing economy with expected economic growth of up to 6.3%
this year. So, we are already seeing how much a government can accomplish when the right
people and resources are utilized.
5. WHAT CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE BUREAU?
Aside from the responsibilities that the job requires me to do, I am also willing to take on
additional tasks given as long as it relevant to the job. But most importantly, I can assure you
that I can do my job thoroughly and with all honestly. I never and never will I entertain any
forms of bribery, which I am aware is rampant everywhere nowadays.
6. WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR US THAT OTHERS CANT?
I have IT skills. I am proficient in Microsoft Applications especially in Excel. I also know other
statistical soft wares that can be helpful in interpreting results. Also, I am a team leader. My
supervisor has always trusted me to make good decisions and lead my co-workers whether
hes around or not.
I am honest and a hard worker as I put great value in the job entrusted to me. I rarely if never
procrastinate. As I know Im a little perfectionist, I always want to finish my tasks before the
deadline so I can have more time to ensure its accuracy.
I am a quick learner and flexible. I can do variety of tasks to achieve a common goal.
7. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE?
If given the chance to work here, my long term goals will involve learning as much as I can,
take on additional responsibilities and contribute as much of value as I can. Once I gain
additional experience, I would like to move on to a higher position and be of more help in any
way I can.

8. WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?

My desire to be of a better help to my family and be considered as a good contributor in the
society. Also, the high expectations that most people I know have on me. It can sometimes be
exhausting trying to uphold that expectations but I take as a motivation to always push past
my limits and never be satisfied with I have achieved.
9. WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?
Ive never been very comfortable with public speaking which as I know, can be a hindrance
in the workplace. Realizing this as a problem, what I do to overcome this is, since I already
love to read during my free hours, I read aloud when Im alone, then I discuss with myself
what the story is all about. I practice a lot on front of the mirror since I know good oral
communication skills can be useful in the future.
10.
HOW WELL DO YOU WORK UNDER PRESSURE?
I dont mind working under a little pressure at all. It would even be an advantage both to
myself and the bureau because working under pressure doesnt just ensure that I get the job
done, it would also help me push past my limits.
11.
TELL ME HOW YOU HANDLED A DIFFICULT SITUATION.
Let me share a learning experience when I was still working in SM City Iloilo as a Customer
Service Assistant. My tasks among other things were handling customer concerns, selling
prepaid cards and handling the bills payment collection. I just opened my work station that
morning when my first customer walked in hurriedly and demanded he needs to his electric
bill payment processed as quickly as possible since he has to catch up with something
somewhere. Unfortunately, my computer chose that time to start up slowly. I talked to the
man, apologized and explained to him that the computer which Ill be using to process his
transaction was starting up slowly. I then gently asked if he could just spare a few minutes to
wait. 10 minutes have passed, my computer monitor was still saying, starting up , the
man began swearing and bad-mouthing me for the slow service. He was attempting to barge
inside my work cubicle so that he can do the deed himself. I apologized to him again and
gently suggested that there were 2 other nearby stations inside the mall where he can pay
his bill. They were 2-3 minute walk from where I was located. He strongly refused saying that
he had already spent a long time waiting only to walk away and risk having to wait more.
Again, I apologized for the inconvenience that I have caused. While waiting for the computer
to start up, I tried catching him up in a conversation by talking about other helpful services
that he can avail at SM. Fortunately, before I exhausted mentioning everything that SM has to
offer, the computer finally started up. I then quickly processed his transaction. I apologized
again for the inconvenience and finally thanked him for waiting and availing of SM services.
He was still running late for his next appointment but I think he was less angry when he
walked away.
12.
DESCRIBE A TIME WHERE YOU WERE BLAMED FOR A MISTAKE YOU DID NOT
MAKE.
There was a time when I was approached by our immediate supervisor about an irregularity in
a report. Though I was not the one who made that particular report, I knew it would be
unproductive to try to pass blame, so I simply asked what the concern was all about and what
I could do to help solve the problem. Afterward, I spoke with my co-workers and let them
know of the error so that all of us could ensure it would not be repeated.
13.
HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS?
I measure professional success by the standards of the company for which I work, the
feedback I receive from my peers and supervisor. Personally, its to know that Im regarded as
a good contributor in the family and of the society.
14.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEAM?
A good team needs to have clear objectives and goals, and procedures to work towards these.
Each person needs to be clear what their role is, and what is expected of them. There needs
to be openness and trust, and clear communication.
15.
WHAT DID YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT YOUR LAST JOB?
My previous role involved traveling at most twice a week. While I do love to travel, twice a week was a little
exhausting. And of course there is an issue of stability. Since I was only a contractual worker, I have no assurance
that I would still have a job the next day.

16.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOUR FORMER SUPERVISOR WOULD LIKE YOU TO
IMPROVE?

He would say that I need to be more confident with myself. I can be quite a perfectionist. I
spend more time than I should trying to get something right. Whats good enough for most
people is never good enough for me.
17.
HOW WOULD YOUR FRIENDS DESCRIBE YOU?
18.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FAILURE?
I think it was when I failed to finish school on time
19.Describe your dream job.

Question for RD Romulo L. Aguila, Jr.: I remembered during your opening message last March 3 rd
at ISAT before we took the pre-employment exam, you have mentioned that youve been with
the bureau for more or less 30 years. From your first year up until now, how do you view the
Bureau differently? Have your expectations been met?
30years ago, there were no computers yet. No scientific calculators if there were already
calculators at that time. As a revenue officer, how do you solve for the peoples taxes?
Question for ARD Aynie E. Mandajoyan: You finished your bachelors degree at Silliman University
and for years worked as an instructor there. What made you decide to leave and work instead for
the bureau?
Text2Teach is a project lead by Ayala Foundation where they provide selected elementary schools
with an ICT package that they can use in the delivery of the lessons. As Ive said, only selected
schools were given the opportunity to be one of the recipients. In order to guarantee the success
and sustainability of the project, the Text2Teach alliance adopted a local inclusion approach and
developed a cost-sharing arrangement scheme. This scheme seeks to enhance community
ownership through counterpart funding between the text2teach alliance and the local
government unit of the area. The amount that the LGU was willing to give counterpart to the
project will determine the number of packages and number of schools that can be recipients of
the project. Say for example, there are 20 schools in Iloilo City. The local government promised to
shoulder an equivalent of 12 packages for the elementary schools of the city. To have a fair
selection of who the lucky 12 would be, I, together with my team conducted validation of all
schools. Schools willing to participate in the Text2Teach program receive first a detailed
questionnaire to be filled up by the principals and teachers and are than interviewed. The focus
of the interview is on the fulfilment of the set criteria. We made reports at each school then rank
them up. Those that came to the top 12 will be Iloilo Citys text2teach recipients. After the
beneficiary schools were identified, Teachers and principals from each selected school are freely
trained in an intensive three days training course. This is to ensure the adequate use and
understanding of the text2teach technology. Right after the training is the classroom
implementation. Then after a year, the recipient schools will be evaluated on the impacts of the
project.
