Are there times when you
just do not feel very
enthused or joyous?
Whether due to issues of
attitude, family, finances,
weight gain, or unhealthy
relationships, any of which
can hinder our joy, the
Bible clearly instructs us
to live a joyful life and to
refuse to allow the cares
of the world to steal our
innate need to be joyous.
God’s plan and purpose
for our lives is abundant
living. The Kingdom of
God is righteousness,
peace and joy in the Holy
Spirit, therefore as
Christians, we must learn
to live in that state of
jubilance. Joy is much
more than just being
happy. Happiness is often
determined by an external
state of being whereas
true joy is everlasting and
abundant. It is an inner
feeling that is so strong
that it finds expression in
some external act.
Biblically, we can express
joy by singing, clapping,
shouting, dancing, playing
a musical instrument, or
even through our tears.

Ultimate Joy: from the desk of Linda Gillis
Joy is a positive attitude or
pleasant emotion. God’s
Word refers to many kinds
of joy. There are many
levels of joy evidenced as
gladness, contentment
and cheerfulness. The joy
that we Christians should
have is holy and pure. Joy
rises above our
circumstances and
focuses on the very
character of God. God’s
characteristics and his
acts are causes for
rejoicing. Joy is one of the
fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-
23): “But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control.”
We profit from the Word
when we perceive that joy
Positive Attitude:
Joy is a positive attitude
or mindset that is rooted
and grounded in the Biblical
foundation that you are
loved, accepted and
cherished by God and that
He has your best interests
at heart. It stems from the
root word “charos” which
means “rejoice”.
The need to rejoice is
directly related to the
innate desire for an
intimate relationship with
a holy God. Joy is a
pleasant emotion evoked
by well-being, success or
good fortune, or by the
prospect of possessing
what one desires.
Therefore, to experience
true biblical joy one must
have confidence that the
direction of his earthly
existence is being one
headed for eternal life.
Transformation
is a duty. "Rejoice in the
Lord always: and again I
say, Rejoice" (Phil. 4:4). The
Holy Spirit here speaks of
rejoicing as a personal,
present and permanent duty
for the people of God to
carry out. The Lord has not
left it to our option whether
we should be glad or sad,
but has made happiness an
obligation. To not rejoice is a
sin of omission. We profit
from the Word when we
learn the secret of true joy.
That secret is revealed in
I John 1:3-4: “…Truly our
fellowship is with the Father,
and with his Son Jesus
Christ. And these things
write we unto you, that your
joy may be full."
Rejoice in the Lord always.
It’s a Decision
Joy is also an act of faith---
Paul stated, “Yes, and I will
continue to rejoice for I know
that through your prayers
and the help of the Spirit of
Jesus Christ this will turn out
for my deliverance.” Faith
is, therefore, a cause of joy.
They are intertwined and as
one grows in faith, they will
also grow in joy!
Apostle Paul gives us great
insight into the subject of
joy, a much needed
commodity in our homes
and churches today. Have
you wondered what real joy
is or how to get it? Have you
experienced temporary
periods of joy that are soon
just fleeting memories of
seasons past? We tend to
look at joy through the eyes
of the world…success,
money, beauty, fame and,
popularity.

There is no other object in
which we can rejoice
"always." We profit from the
Word when we are taught
the great value of joy. Joy is
to the soul what wings are to
the bird, enabling us to soar
above the things of earth.
This is brought out plainly in
Nehemiah 8:10: "The joy of
the Lord is your strength”.
We are to be careful to
maintain our joy. "Joy in the
Holy Spirit" is the product of
Him dwelling in our hearts
and bodies, revealing Christ
to us, answering all our
need for pardon and
cleansing, and so setting us
at peace with God; and
forming Christ in us, so that
He reigns in our souls,
subduing us to His control.
The biblical viewpoint of
joy, or the path to it, is
quite different. It is found in
the truth of Salvation, the
Love of the Father, the
security of eternal life and
trust in the sufficiency of a
living Savior. This joy is
unshakable and will
express itself in a desire to
be a witness for God. How
can we truly experience the
love of Christ and not
share it?

Healing The Body: Two Miracles of a Different Kind

We are ministers who
believe in the power of
Jesus to heal today. Make
no mistake about it! Just
ask Leroy Smith. Mr.
Smith, when asked what
he needed from the Lord
during prayer, stated “I
need a new heart.” Praise
God! In his desperation,
he cried out to the Lord.
