Abstract: Nowadays it is known the general controversy about possible adverse effects
of free global proliferation of the genetically modified organisms. In this context, it is
assumed that the most eminent, skilled and competent expert would be the people who
more and better understand and manage potential negative risk associated with these
biotechnology products. The increasing hybridizing between academic and business,
obviously, is causing that the current form to produce science is changing rapidly and
perhaps irreparably. So, new social and environmental challenges are becoming more
and more currents, important and transcendence. The ultimate purpose of self-regulation
may look successful, legitimate and well justified; but the main question is if this
technoscientific self-government is socially feasible, possible and preferable.
