Problem of Indonesians Waste

Garbage is a material that wasted or discarded from the source result of human
activity and nature that dont have economic value. Garbage can from households, farms,
offices, companies, hospitals and markets. Waste can be divided into organic waste or wet
waste is waste that comes from living things. Example of organic waste are kitchen waste,
restaurant waste, remain of vegetables and fruits and many more. Then an organic waste or
dry waste is waste that cant be decomposed. Example of an organic waste are metal, iron,
tin, plastic, rubber also bottles that can not decay naturally. Furthermore hazardous waste,
example batteries, mosquito poison bottles including used syringes.Waste is a problem that
never resolved in big cities. Many people that dont care about environment. They are
habitual with their habits that dispose waste in anywhere. It can contaminate the
environment. That are one of many cause the problem waste in indonesia. Landfills that are
not well taken care will also cause a big problem, because the accumulation of waste or throw
it anywhere into the open area will contamination of the soil which will also impact to ground
water channel (Sudrajat 2013). Likewise, waste incineration will cause air pollution, waste
disposal into the river will cause water pollution, clogged drains and flood (Sicular in
Sudrajat 1989). In addition, the exploitation of the environment is an issue relating to the
management of garbage, especially around the city. Waste problem in Indonesia is more and
more waste produced by people. Landfill also reduced. This can cause waste as the breeding
and nest of insects and rodents, a source of pollution and contamination of soil, water, and
air. And also as a source and a place to live the germs that harmful to our health. So the
problem about waste in indonesia need to do the management called waste management.
Managing waste includes reduce, reuse, recycle and replace.
Reduce is minimizing the use of objects. More and more we use, hence more and
more material waste produced. For example: transport is one of the things that we often use.
And also this objects that produce a lot of waste is a kind of gas and also used fuel for use. By
reducing the use of an object that used fuel can give many advantages. Example is saving
energy that cant be renewed and then, by not using it we can save our money to buy fuel. It
reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change(McCarthy 2014).
This gas emission like from transportation can acumulate gas emission in atmosphere and
then cause greenhouse effect. Greenhouse effect cause global warming, and global warming
cause many another problem. This will happen if we dont care about environment and didnt
reduce using objects that can be waste. Another benefit is preventing pollution caused by
reducing the need to harvest new raw materials. Reduces the amount of waste that will need
to be recycled or sent to landfills and incinerators. So, how to reduce? By borrowing, renting,
or sharing items it can minimize the use of objects that used by different person. Example :
rent that are used infrequently, like party decorations. In party decoration used many object or
material. We can reduce by rent it and should not buy it. If every people buy one object, so
many objects will be waste on a long time or a periode. But if we rent one object, so that
object can used by different people and will be only a waste.
Then re-usable is choose items that can be reused. Avoid the use of items that are
disposable. It can extend the use of things before it becomes waste. Items that can be reused

not only the items can be reused but if the items after it used it can be used for other purpose.
Example: banana leaf after it used for packing a food, the leaf can be subtance for land
fertilizer. Items that can be reused also give advantages to us. By used items that can be
reused it mean we not necessary rebuy that items on adjacent time. Reuse mean values added.
Reusing an item means that it continues to be a valuable, useful, productive item, and
replaces new items that would utilize more water, energy, timber, petroleum, and other
limited natural resources in their manufacture. Businesses can save significant dollars in
disposal by reselling or donating items that are no longer needed. Many chemicals and
solvents that are no longer useful to one organization, can be used in other applications by
other organizations. This method of "materials exchange" results in disposal savings by the
generating company, and saving in the purchase of the material by the recipient organization.
Reuse adds value! A items certainly need resources in its making. More and more we make a
items, resources will also reduced. While manufacturing new products drains our limited
natural resources, and disposing of unwanted materials pollutes our environment, our
communities face difficulties getting the affordable goods they need. One way to prevent
waste, improve our communities, and increase the material well-being of our citizens is to
take useful products discarded by those who no longer want or need them and provide them
to those who do.
Recycle is items that have not useful anymore cultivated recycled, because not all
things can be recycled, but it's been a lot of non-formal industry and home industries that
utilize waste into other things. If we care about environment and have inovation for
environment can be amzing or good environment that happy if we see that. For your
information, a house can make from waste that break the view of environment. You may be
surprised, but it is possible to build a house using almost all recycled or recyclable material.
some examples of materials that can be used when building a house(Build a House From
Recycled Products). Tyres can be packed with earth and arranged on top of one another like
bricks, and used as interior walls. They can then be covered with plaster to absorb heat and
provide insulation for the house. This method reduces the amount of timber required in the
building. Cellulose insulation material can be made from recycled newspapers and can
provide insulation for the building. Recycled/recyclable steel can be used for many
frameworks in a building. Steel can also be used for creating the roof. Plastic PET bottles can
be recycled to make carpet material for the building, and carpet pads can be made from
reused textiles. Recycled wood can be used for much of the interior of the house, such as
worktops, cabinets and drawers. Reclaimed paint can be used to decorate the building once it
has been fully built. And many other things can be different thing that better than before. But
there should we do before it. We should Find ways of recycling different materials. Many
materials can be recycled, such as paper, plastic, metal and glass. Other items such as
furniture, electronic equipment, building material and vehicles can also be recycled but many
people dont often think to do so. Buy products that can be recycled. When shopping at the
supermarket, buy products that can be recycled easily such as glass jars and tin cans. Buy
products that have been made from recycled material. You can tell if a product is eco-friendly
by looking at the label on the packaging. Avoiding buying hazardous material. It is difficult to
recycle products that contain hazardous waste. Try to find safer alternatives to household

cleaners and buy non-toxic products whenever possible. By thinking carefully about what
products you buy and how to recycle them is the first step towards efficient recycling. So let
think and do that for our environment.
Replace, peruse the goods that we use every day. Replace items that can only be used
once the goods are more durable. And also carefully, so that we only use items that are more
environmentally friendly. For example, we replace plastic bags with a basket when shopping,
and do not use styrofoam because these two materials can not be degraded naturally. Store
food in boxes instead of using plastic wrapping films. Use rechargeable batteries or AC
electricity instead of disposable battery. Replace activity is also related with previous Rs
activity. Replace is related with reuse. Replace the items that often we use by the items that
can be used repeatedly. Example: Changing drinking bottle with a bottle that can be used
repeatedly, or a bottle of almuminium material. Replace is related with recycle. Because not
all things can be recycled. So we must replace with things that can be recyled or items that
often we use can be replace with items that already we recyled. Besides our money is save,
and items that we use is environmental friendly. Example: By using bags made of patchwork
batik or detergents used plastic packaging as a replacement for your bag. Bags unique and
interesting, especially environmentally friendly, will be a pride for the wear. Others examples
for replace like replace the use of ordinary plastic bags with biodegradable plastic. This type
of plastic is more eco-friendly because it is easily described. Bring own lunch box as a food
Instead of using styrofoam. Styrofoam can harm for environment. So replace your items that
can be harm for our environment by items that environmental friendly.
Reduce, reuse, recycle, and replace are to reduce the amount of urban and other waste
that must be disposed of in landfills, incinerators, and other waste management facilities. But
this 4R activities still face major obstacles, is lack of public awareness for sorting the waste.
One solution to overcome this problem is through the development of the Waste Bank that an
activity of social engineering that teaches people to sort the waste as well as raising public
awareness on waste management wisely and in turn will reduce the waste going into landfill.
Development banks of this waste should be the initial momentum to foster the collective
consciousness of society to begin sorting, recycling, and the use of waste, because the waste
has a pretty good selling point, so that environmentally sound waste management into a new
culture of Indonesia. Garbage Bank can contribute as a dropping point for producers for
products and product packaging that the useful life is over. By applying this pattern is
expected volume of waste disposed to landfill is reduced. Application of the principle of 4R
as close as possible to the source of waste is also expected to resolve the problem of waste in
an integrated and comprehensive so that the ultimate goal of Waste Management Indonesian
policy can be implemented properly. The problem of waste is one of the problems to be faced
in the future in addition to the problem of human population. Along with population growth,
the amount of waste generated will increase. Households are the biggest contributor to this
garbage problem (Kementrian Lingkungan Hidup RI 2012). If this problem can not be
managed properly, it is possible in the future the entire surface of the world will be covered in
garbage. Waste management is our together responsibility. Start by sorting waste by type will
be very helpful in that management process. That process of sorting can be seen already

begun to be applied in environments such as schools, government agencies, highways and

other public places are marked with the placement of bins that have been named according to
its kind. Its placement in the schools even use the media and striking colors that appealed to
children to use. Although the road to the waste-free state is still very hard but with the
involvement of all parties, it certainly could happen someday. Zero waste can be possible if
all of us know and do managing waste. Waste is from us and we must be responsible about
that. No zero word before we start doing resposibility to protect the earth from the waste that
we give. So, managing is important thing for make all to be good it also for waste, not only
can make evironment clean but it also can change the waste to be the new thing that have
economic value, art value and many more that can give advantages for us.
