For specimen copy of the Cover page & Title page for thesis Refer
Annexure I.
6.2
Certificates- The Certificates shall be in double line spacing using Font Style Verdana Font Size 12 Refer
Annexure II.
6.3
Abstract- Abstract should be an essay type of narration not exceeding four pages outlining the research
problem, the methodology used & summary of the findings, typed double line spacing with font Style Verdana
and Font Size 10.
6.4
Table of contents-
The table of contents should list all material following it as well as material which
precedes it. The title page, Bonafide Certificate and Acknowledgement will not find a place among the items
listed in the Table of Contents. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the table of contents.
6.5
List of Tables- The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the tables in the text. One
and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.
6.6
List of Figures- The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the tables in the text. One
and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.
6.7
List of Symbols, abbreviations and Nomenclature- One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the
matter under this head. Standard symbols, abbreviations etc. should be used.
6.8 Introduction and literature review- Write the introduction as an essay indicating the theoretical background and
historical development related to the research work. It should make the reader understand the scientific and
traditional aspects of the proposed work. Indicate the list of traditional drugs / plants / pharmaceuticals/ dosage
forms etc., if any, related to the proposed research. Discuss the properties of plants / pharmaceuticals /
excipients / drugs / chemical compounds / physical principles / biopharmaceutical aspects / pharmacokinetic
principles / any other scientific data and popular traditional belief or fiction related to the proposed research
work. Introduce the novelty of idea / approach towards the research work, if any.
The literature survey should be arranged in reverse chronological order.
Introduction, literature review and objectives of research
The introduction should include the theoretical background and historial development of the research work. Literature
review should be in proper sequence.
Hypothesis
Footnote
The best method of representing a literature review is to present it as a table:
List all literature in reverse chronological order:
S.
No.
Names of journal;
Title of the article
Type of work done by the author
year of publication;
Author(s) names
Sir Name, Name of Author, Tittle of Journal Book, Publisher, Year of Publication

inference
Second method of representing a literature review is to present it as paragraphs (in chronological order:
Xu et al., (1999) isolated a water soluble substance from a Chinese herb, Prunella vulgaris. The polysaccharide
was active against the HSV-1 and HSV-2.1
Anani et al., (2000) prepared methanol extracts from 19 medicinal plants of Togo and analysed them for antiviral
and antibiotic activities. Ten of the 19 showed significant antiviral activity against one or other test viruses
(Herpes Simplex, Sindbis and Poliovirus).2
6.9 Materials and methods- (write materials and methods in past tense) research methodology
It should contain all details relates to the methodology adopted like sample size, data collection techniques,
sample design, research design, type of data used, geographic area

This must start from the list of test compounds / materials / reagents / chemicals etc with their sources, a note
about the authentication of plant / biological material with name of the authenticating agency. Then write the
method of preparation of chemical reagents. Write procedure stepwise, giving numbers to each step and giving
numbers to the subheadings also (e.g., Main heading: 1. Physiological Characterization of Micro spheres; Sub
heading: 1.1. Size :). Write all the headings and sub headings in Verdana, title case, bold. Font size of
main heading should be 11 and that of subheading and text should be 10. Do not write results here but indicate
their location (e.g., the results of UV analysis are tabulated in Table no. 1 and represented as Graph no. 3).
6.10 Results and Discussion- (write results in past tense, paragraph form) Analysis & Finding
Discuss results in past tense. Include all photographs, figures, tables and graphs with proper Sub headings. All
must be suitably numbered in Arabic numerals (1.,2.,3. etc. and/or 1.1, 1.2 etc.) and their reference must appear in
Materials and Methods at proper place.
6.11 Summary and Conclusion & Suggestions/ Recommendation Summarize and discuss the Final Out Come /
Hypothesis
Generated / Scientific and Industrial Application of Research / Proposed Further
Research Steps etc. (e.g., In present research work the Cytotoxic Activity of Nerium
indicum is established, however its Antiviral potential is yet to be tested).
6.12 Appendices- Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which if
included in the main text may serve as a distraction.
Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc.
Appendices, Tables and references appearing in appendices should be numbered and referred to at
appropriate places.
Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported and the same title shall be made in the contents page
also.
The list of publications made by research student during the period of research, shall be brought in the
Appendix titled, as List of Publications and the same shall be reported in the contents.
6.13 Acknowledgement- The Acknowledgement shall be brief and should not exceed one page when typed in double
spacing. The students signature shall be made at the bottom end above his./ her name typed in capitals.
6.14 References- (at the end of thesis/bibliography)
References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first
(not in alphabetic order). Identify references in text, tables, and
in square brackets. References cited only in tables or figure legends should be numbered in accordance with
the sequence established by the first identification in the text of the particular table or figure. Use complete
name of the journal for non-indexed journals. Avoid using abstracts as references. Information from
5
manuscripts submitted but not accepted should be cited in the text as unpublished observations with written
permission from the source.

6.15 Tables and figures- By the word Table, is meant tabulated numerical data in the
body of the thesis as well as in the appendices. All other non-verbal material used in
the body of the thesis and appendices such as charts, graphs, maps, photographs
and diagrams may be designated as figures.
A table or figure including caption should be accommodated within the prescribed margin limits and
appear on the page following the page where their first references is made.
All tables and figures should be prepared on the same paper or material used for the preparation of the rest
of the spacing.
Two or more small tables or figures may be grouped if necessary in a single page.
Wherever possible, the entire photographs(s) may be reproduced on a full sheet of photographic paper.
Photographs if any should be included in the form of color photocopy. More than one photograph can be
included in a page.
Samples of Fabric, Leather, polymer films etc., if absolutely necessary may be attached evenly in a page
and fixed/ pasted suitably and should be treated as figures.

Chapters:
The format for typing Chapter headings Divisions headings and sub-division headings are explained through
the following illustrative examples.
Chapter headings :
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
Division heading :
Sub-division heading
The word CHAPTER without punctuation should be centered 50mm down from the top of the page. Two
spaces below, the title of the chapter should be typed centrally in capital letters. The text should commence 4
spaces below this title, the first letter of the text starting 20mm, inside from the left hand margin.
The division and sub-division captions along with their numberings should be left-justified. The typed material
directly below division or sub-division headings should commence 2 spaces below it and should be offset
20mm from the left hand margin.
8. NUMBERING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1
Page Numbering
All pages numbers (whether it is in Roman or Arabic numbers) should be typed without punctuation on the
lower right hand corner. The preliminary pages of the thesis (such as Title page, Acknowledgement, Table of
Contents etc.) should be numbered in lower case Roman numerals.
8.2
Numbering of Equations
Equations appearing in each Chapter or Appendix should be numbered serially, the numbering commencing a
fresh for each Chapter or Appendix. Thus for Example, an equation appearing in Chapter 2, if it happens to be
the eighth equation in that Chapter should be numbered (2.8) thus:
E=mc2
2.8
9. BINDING SPECIFICATIONS:
Thesis submitted for evaluation (7 copies) should be bound using hard cover of thick art paper. The
cover should be printed in block letters and the text for printing should be identical to what has been
prescribed for the title page.
The color of the cover page of hard bind thesis will be:
i)
ii)
iii)
ENGINEERING: GREEN
