ARABIC TEXT

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
On the authority of Ibn `Umar, the son of `Umar bin
Al-Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with both, who
said : I heard the messenger of Allah say :
"Islam has been built on five [pillars]: testifying that
there is no god but Allah and that Muhammed is the
messenger of Allah, performing the prayers, paying
the zakat, making the pilgrimage to the House, and
fasting in Ramadan."

They narrated this hadith in the two Sahih books in the


version of 'Ikrimah ibn Khalid from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah
be pleased with both of them) Muslim narrated it in two
other ways from Ibn Umar, and he has other versions
from him. This version was narrated by al-Bukhari,
Muslim, Ahmad, al-Nasai, al-Tirmidhi, al-Baihaqi, Ibn
Khuzaima, Ibn Habaan and many others.
This hadith has been narrated from Jarir ibn 'Abdullah alBajali from the Prophet which Imam Ahmad narrated. In
the previous hadith we have already looked at Islam.

NARRATOR

Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-khattaab (10 before Hijra 73 A.H.)


was the eldest son of Umar ibn al-Khattaab. He was one of the
most outstanding younger companions. He embraced Islam with
his father. He was too young for the battle of Badr but he
participated in all the battles of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)
after that.
He was a learned scholar, known for his piety and strict imitation
of prophetic precepts. His religious ruling and example had a
great influence on Maliki Madhab.
He was knowon for having tears in his eyes while narrating
Hadith. He distinguished himself as a narrator of Hadith, second
only to Abu Huraira. Some 2630 hadith have been attributed to
his authority. His students included: Saeed ibn al-Mussayyab, alHasan al-Basri, al-Zuhri, Naafi and many others.
He was the last companion to die in Makkah.
