ber of people who want to see the
code.

For example, it k nows t h e offset
needed to break the BSD f i ngerd,
but doe sn't k now the co rrect offset
for Sun's f i nge rd (which causes it

erase i t s t racks as c l everl y as it
might; and so o n .
The worm u s e s a va r i a b l e
called "pleasequit" but doesn't cor
rectly initial ize it, so some fo lks
added a module called _worm.o to
t h e C l i bra ry, w h ich is produced
from: int ple asequit
-1; the fact
t h a t t h i s va lue i s s e t to -1 w i l l
cause it t o exit after one iteration.
The close scruti ny of the code
also turned up co m m e nts on the

IT TOOK A LOT OF GALL for someone to call us collect and somehow convince
an untrained operator that we had accepted the charges and then apparently talk to
our answering machine for seven minutes. It also takes a lot of gall for an Alternate
Operator Service company like the above to charge the astronomical rates they do,

Network". When we first saw that line on the phone bill, we thought it was some
kind of tax or surcharge. That's why we decided to expend a little gall of our own
