Answers
(1)

10 metres
Step 1
The car is travelling at the speed of 36 KM per hour.
Step 2
This means that the car can travel 36 KM in one hour.
Step 3
Remember, whenever we say 1 KM, we mean to say 1000 meters. This is because there are
1000 meters in 1 KM.
Step 4
In this way, when we say 36 KM in one hour, we mean to say 36 1000 meters in one hour,
or 36000 meters in one hour.
Step 5
Thus, the car can travel 36000 meters in one hour.
Step 6
This means the car can travel 36000 meters in 60 minutes (there are 60 minutes in an hour).
Step 7
This also means that the car can travel 36000 meters in 60 60 = 3600 seconds (there are 60
seconds in each minute).
Step 8
In 3600 seconds the car can travel 36000 meters. In 1 second, it can only travel 3600 times
less.
Step 9
We can now say that the car can travel 36000 / 3600 meters in one second.
Step 10
This means the car can travel 10 meters (36000 / 3600 meters) in a second.
Step 11
We have got our answer. This was a long way to find our answer, and we did so to understand
things better.
Step 12
If you wish to convert speed in KM per hour to meters per second quickly, just divide the
speed in KM per hour by 3.6 to find speed in meters per second.
Step 13
By this quick method, the speed in meters per second = speed in KM per hour 3.6 = 36 3.6
= 10

(8)

c. Second, more by 184 meter

Step 1
Look at the question carefully, and let us assume that l1 and l2 be the length of first and
second backyard respectively.
Step 2
Therefore the length of first backyard = l1 meter,
and the breath of first backyard = 45 meter,
Since the backyard is rectangular and we know that the area of rectangle = length breath
Therefore the area of first backyard = length of first backyard breath of first backyard = l1
45 sq. meter
Since the area of first backyard = 1440 sq. meter
Therefore the area of first backyard = l1 45 = 1440
Since 45 is in multiplication in left hand side, when we move it towards the right hand side,
then it will go to division.
or l1 =

1440
45

or l1 = 32 meter
Step 3
Now the length first backyard = l1 = 32 meter
We know that the perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breath)
Therefore the perimeter of first backyard = 2(length of first backyard + breath of first backyard)
= 2(32 + 45)
= 154 meter
Step 4
Similarly the length of second rectangular backyard = l2 meter,
and the breath of second rectangular backyard = 9 meter,
The area of second rectangular backyard = length of second rectangular backyard breath of
second rectangular backyard = l2 9 sq. meter
Since the area of second rectangular backyard = 1440 sq. meter
Therefore the area of second rectangular backyard = l2 9 = 1440
or l2 =

1440
9

or l2 = 160 meter
Step 5
Now the length of second rectangular backyard = l2 = 160 meter
and the perimeter of second rectangular backyard = 2(length of second rectangular backyard
+ breath of second rectangular backyard)
= 2(160 + 9)
= 338 meter
Step 6
Since the perimeter of second rectangular backyard is greater than the perimeter of first
rectangular backyard.
Therefore the second backyard require more fencing.

Step 7
Since 338 - 154 = 184
Therefore the second backyard require 184 meter more fencing.
Step 8
Therefore the answer = Second, more by 184 meter
