Ok Year 6s, so far Im very impressed with your organisational skills in

preparing for the parent presentation of our Volcano tasks. We are now going
to wait for you parents to arrive that should be any minute. I would like you all
to be standing by your allocated tables when they enter the room. Allow them
time to look around all your presentations and then there will be time for you
to present your tasks to just your parents. Remember smiles and give them
as much information as possible about the process that you have been
through to create these presentations!
9:50am

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

-

Parents enter the classroom

Parents are asked to stand in the middle of the room whilst the
teacher addresses them

Hello everyone and thank you for coming today. Our 6 Six students have
been working very hard over the past four weeks in preparation for today. Our
students have been required to complete three tasks all about the topic of
Volcanoes and the effect that they have on our environment. There has been
a lot of emphasis on ICT (technology) to source information, create an iMovie

project and we have used applications such as Bubble.Us, a mind-mapping

source and Google.Docs. All of these elements of technology has helped
them to complete these tasks with ease. I ask you all to wonder around and
view their presentations. They have spent a lot of time and effort on them and
you should be very proud. After a few minutes having a look, you will be
asked to return to your own childs desk to be given a personal presentation
from them about Volcanoes. Are there any questions that you might have
about their presentations? Thank you very much and enjoy!
10:00am

Parents are given 10 minutes to wonder around everyones desk and

marvel at the hard work they have done

Parents may ask questions about their presentations

After 10 minutes has finished, the teacher asks students to collect

their parents in readiness for their presentations

If a students parent is not available to be at the presentation, then the

student will present their presentation to either the teacher or another
student who also does not have a parent attending.

Students will talk their parents through the process, causes and effect
of Volcanoes

They will show them their news article, iMovie and the other relevant
tasks they have made and posted on their class blog.

After 15 minutes, students will be asked to finish their presentation

and return to the front of the classroom.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

10:20am

10:30am

Students stand at the front of the classroom whilst the teacher

congratulates them on their hard work

Parents are then asked to enjoy the refreshments and have a look at
the other work the students have been doing the classroom.

Parents are also invited to help students finish off anything that they
did not complete in their task.

- Refreshments for
parents

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

-

Parents leave the classroom

Students pack away their presentations in readiness to take home

Students place all desks back in the same spot that they were at the
start of the classroom

Students are then allowed to go to recess.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
-

Teacher wonders around during the presentations to assess the

students presentation skills and their knowledge of the cause,
process and effect of Volcanoes

Students are also assessed on their three tasks and the overall
quality of them
