Unit Three Beliefs and Values
Central Idea: Belief systems and values influence human interaction.

Mathematics Unit of Inquiry Language

In the grade 5 math classes,
we have been learning
about data collection and
presentation of information.
Last week, students worked
with partners to design a
survery project to learn
about the beliefs and values
of our classmates. See our
survery results displayed
in the grade 5 hallway.
Students will continue to
learn about reading graphs
and drawing conclusions
about information that is
presented.
Our Beliefs and Values
Unit is going strong as
students investigate the
common characteristics
across belief systems. The
last two weeks have been
spent looking into how
beliefs influence human
behavior and interaction.
We have inquired into the
beliefs of Judaism and
Islam. Students are making
connections between the
the beliefs and values of
these cultures and their
impact on daily life and
personal experiences.
Before the holiday,
students wrote original
creative stories. We will be
using these to ”workshop”
writing skills, practice
revision and do some peer
review. We will continue to
review skills that will
improve creative writing
including using dialogue
and improving the flow the
plot line. Both 5C and 5J
began new whole-class
reading novels and have
been blogging our
thoughts and comments
on the Grade 5 Ning.
