Question 1
A1) Vehicle Number-ordinal scale of measurement
A2) Failure Month-nominal scale of measurement
A3) Mileage at Failure-nominal scale of measurement
A4) Labor Hours-interval scale of measurement
A5) Labor cost-ratio scale of measurement
A6) Material Cost-ratio scale of measurement
A7) State-nominal scale of measurement
B)
Qualitative variables vehicle numbers, state, failure month
Quantitative variables mileage at failure, labor hours, labor
costs, material costs
C)
71
D)
$3234.41-maximum labor cost
E)
$685836.05 was the total failure cost for the data available
Question 2
A) The two types of population involved in the comparison
are women whose mothers took the DES drug during
pregnancy and the women whose mothers who did not
take the DES drug during pregnancy.
B) An experiment.
C) From a sample of 3980 women if 63 developed tissue
abnormalities, then from 1000 women, 16 women will
develop tissue abnormalities.
D) For the population of 3980 women (taken from {c}), 63
develop tissue abnormalities. Moreover, from 1000
women, 16 women develop tissue abnormalities. Now
taking these values as the base for this question, the

estimate number of women out of 1000 who are expected

to develop tissue abnormalities are twice the number of
women whose mother did not take the DES drug. So, the
number of women are twice the number 16 i.e. 32 women
out of 1000 are estimated to have tissue abnormalities.
E) A medical study has larger sample because it gives us a
greater precise answer when estimating unknown
parameters. This ensures the medical treatment is
effective for everyone and even it identifies rare side
effects to be known. Large samples are varied and it
includes important demographics like age, gender, and/or
lifestyle. In addition, without a large sample of human
species, the study may fail and can provide wrong
answers as well.
Question 3
A) ACNielsen organization is attempting to measure the size
of the viewing audience for each major television network
program.
B) The viewing audience is the population.
C) A sample is used for this situation because the viewing
audience in this case is very large and we cannot survey
each of the audience, as it is a waste of time and money.
D) Rankings of the television programs and of the viewing
audience market shares for each network are published
every week based on the ACNielsen studies.
Question 4
1) Mean of the Mileage at failure data is $20,579
2) Median of the Mileage at failure data is $17,000
3) Mode of the Mileage at failure data is $5
4) Range of the Mileage at failure data is 99,982
5) Standard Deviation of the Mileage at failure data is 18,276
Question 5
A) The mean time to get to work in public transportation is 32
minutes.
The mean time to get to work in Automobile is 32 minutes

B) The standard deviation for public transportation is 4.6427

The standard deviation for Automobile is 1.8257
F) From (A) and (B), the Automobile way of transport is
preferable because the deviation of time in that method is
very less compared to the public transport method of
transportation. Standard deviation shows the variation of
set of data values. A less standard deviation means the set
of data is very near to the mean of the set of data.
Moreover, high standard deviation means the data points
are far away distributed over a wide range of values.

4 0.3 1.2
7 0.4 2.8
8 0.1 0.8
() = () = 5.2
Question 7
With = 10 & = 0.10
A) 0 = 0,10,0.10, = 0.34867844
B) 2 = 2,10,0.10, = 0.19371024
C) 2 = 2,10,0.10, =
0.92980917
D) 1 = 1 0,10,0.10, =

E) = = 1
F) = ! = = 0.9

Question 8

A) If a chip starting in slot 4 results in winning 10,000; then

the probability will be counted as follows:
x = number of times the chip goes to the left=5
n = 12
p = 0.5
And we are finding probability exactly at one point, so we
will write false
So, with the help of excel and the formula:
= 5,12,0.5, = 0.2255
If a chip starting in slot 5 results in winning 10,000; then
the probability will be counted as:
x = number of times the chip goes to the left= 6
n = 12
p = 0.5
And we are finding probability exactly at one point, so we
will write false
So, with the help of excel and the formula:
= 6,12,0.5, = 0.1933
If a chip starting in slot 6 results in winning 10,000; then
the probability will be counted as:
x = number of times the chip goes to the left=7
n = 12
p = 0.5
In addition, we are finding probability exactly at one
point, so we will write false
So, with the help of excel and the formula:
= 7,12,0.5, = 0.1933
B) For a chip dropped in slot 5 the expected winning is:
()
0 0.3867 0
100 0.0322 3.22
500 0.1132 56.6
1000 0.2421 242.1

10000 0.2255 2255

= = 2556.92
For a chip dropped in slot 4 or 6, the expected winning is:
()
0 0.3466 0
100 0.0566 5.66
500 0.1533 76.65
1000 0.25 250
10000 0.1933 1933
() = = 2265.31
