A statement of purpose

I am applying for the HEC OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIPS for MS leading to PhD under Human
Resource Development Initiative in the field of Chemical Engineering. Presently I have completed
the undergraduate studies of Chemical Engineering. I believe that my chosen profession will enable
me to fulfill my desire to help others, to expand my knowledge base, and to travel. Throughout my
life I have participated in extracurricular activities, including valuable volunteer experiences. I have
striven for academic excellence, always wishing to get the most of my education. In addition, I have
managed to work to provide some of my basic educational expenses.
Over the years with the great expansion of scientific knowledge, the basis of applying science
particularly chemistry to develop technology has increased tremendously. This has led to the
development of the profession of Chemical Engineering.
Chemical Engineering involves the design and maintenance of chemical plants and the development
of chemical processes for converting raw materials or chemicals into valuable forms including those
to remove chemicals from waste materials, to enable large-scale manufacture.
Chemical engineers apply the principles of chemistry, mathematics, and physics to the design and
operation of large-scale chemical manufacturing processes. They translate processes developed in the
laboratory into practical applications for the production of products such as plastics, medicines,
detergents, and fuels; design plants to maximize productivity and minimize costs; and evaluate plant
operations for performance and product quality.
As far as my study career in the field of Chemical Engineering I have had a great deal of laboratory
experience in software based Chemical Engineering Programs. In the lab, I have performed many
practical. In my project, I have developed a Chemical computer based calculator that assists engineers
in the Heat Transfer calculations & also sieve tray distillation tower and electrostatic De salter. My
final year project is an Effluent Treatment of Oil Refineries.
Education has always been an important facet of my life. While in high school I took challenging
courses, such as advanced placement English, physics, and calculus, and chemistry.
All of these experiences have served to influence me. I have faced many challenges, balancing work,
school and university, and I have willingly given my time. My goal is to become a professional
engineer so that I can perform tasks that makes the performance and progress of the industry. I enjoy
listening and working with others.
I believe that I would be an asset to your program. This scholarship would provide me with the ideal
opportunity to learn from other country and university and to expand my research skills and
processing sciences. I also did my internship in SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines LTD Pakistan)
& Pak Arab fertilizers Ltd. Pakistan.
Thank you for your generous time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Muhammad Kamran Mahmood
