Note: From this point on, it is very important that you work from the outside of the piece,
with the outside of the bag facing you.
Rnd 8: Working in back loops only, sc in same st as joining and in each st around. Join
with sl st to the first st of the rnd, ch 3.

of the rnd. (48 dc)
Rnd 10: Working in front loops only, skip next st, (5 dc in next st, skip next st, sl st in next
st, skip next st) around to last st. (12 dragon scales) Finish off.
Rnd 11: Skip first two st. Working in the free back loops of Rnd 9, join CC with a sl st
to the third st, ch 3, dc in next st and in each st around. Join with sc in the front loop of
the third ch of beginning ch3. (48 dc)
Note: Joining the new color two stitches to the left of the stitch that finished off the
preceding round allows the dragon scales to be staggered from row to row, rather than laying
right on top of one another.
Rnd 12: Working in front loops only, skip next st, (5 dc in next st, skip next st, sl st in next
st, skip next st) around to last st, join with sl st to first st of rnd. Finish off.

Rnds 13-32: Repeat Rnds 11-12 ten times more, alternating between joining MC and CC on
odd-numbered rounds.
Rnd 33: Skip first two st. Working in free back loops of Rnd 31, join MC with sl st to the
third st, ch3, dc in next two st, ch1, (skip next st, dc in next three st, ch 1) around, join
with sl st to the third ch of beginning ch3. (12 ch-1 spaces)
Rnd 34: Working in both loops, sc in next st, skip next st, (5 dc in next ch-1 sp, skip next st, sc
in next st, skip next st) around to last st, join with sl st to first sc of rnd. Finish off. Weave in
ends.
Drawstring/handles:
Crochet method: With MC, make a chain approximately 24 inches long. Sc in
second ch from hook and in each ch across. Weave one end in and out through the ch-1
spaces of rnd 33 and sew ends together, forming a ring. Repeat with CC. Weave in ends.
Knitting method: With MC and using size US8 double-pointed knitting needles, make
4-stitch I-cord approximately 24 inches long. Weave one end in and out through the ch-1
spaces of rnd 33 and sew ends together, forming a ring. Repeat with CC. Weave in ends.
To close bag, pull MC handle in one direction and CC handle in the other. Tie a half-hitch or
bow to secure closure if desired.
